Just started watching Black Mirror the other night. Some of this is unrealistic bullshit. In bullshit like The National Anthem, it was just a huge anti-government message.
Could you imagine this happening in real life? Some artist demands the Prime Minister fuck a pig in exchange for a hostage? Like 3/4 of the story was people telling him "You've gotta do this" instead of doing the realistic thing and not negotiating with terrorists.
It really set a shitty stage for what is a pretty decent show most of the time.
White Bear had some of the most ungodly awful acting I've ever seen. Whoever the woman was, who was experiencing the punishment every day, I couldn't stand her, it was exhausting to watch

I only realised recently that The Entire History of You was the first real Black Mirror episode: a piece of technology shaping a story. Also realised that White Christmas pretty much ruined Brooker because it's since then that most stories have revolved around "chip in someone's head" and "copy of person on computer". Nosedive, Playtest, San Jupinero, Men Against Fire, USS Callister, Arkangel, Hang the DJ and Black Museum are all about that.
Still like the show though.
I was thinking about this while watching Series 4 and it's a combo of 4 things
1. Brooker has worked in TV for decades now and diversity is always displayed on screen to tick boxes
2. He lives in London, one of the most diverse places on the planet
3. He's literally in an interracial marriage
All this stuff implicitly influences him to write about interracial relationships like they're more common than single race ones. Go anywhere outside of London and the TV industry and they're pretty rare still in Britain.

Nosedive wasn't really about either of those things, it was another "social media obsession is bad" episodes, you're right on the others though. It's entertaining and its message is palatable if you take it as a satire of technology panic rather than at face value but it's not as brilliant or groundbreaking as people claim it is.
UK broadcasting is a fucking disgrace, literally 90% of ads have an interracial relationship and even the fucking product they're advertising takes a back seat to the relationship being displayed. It feels like an agenda at this point.
