Daily Reminder that Rian Johnson was denied admission because of poor grades from every major film school in the country till his rich parents gave a donation to USC
He's literally just some dipshit AV manchild who had rich parents and friends in high places.
hold the fucking phone. are you saying someone in the Hollywood film industry who has made it to high places comes from a background of money? this is stunning news.
Robert Gonzalez
>Wealthy parents worked hard to provide child with opportunities What's the problem? This is a dual-nature of a meritocracy. We expect everything to be fair and for it to have an equal playing field. We expect the best among us to be proportionally rewarded. But when those successful people want to spend that money on their family, it's suddenly not fair.
Evan Kelly
Reeeeeeeeeee....Rian is a hack!!!! Reeeeeeee!!! But Bieber is worse.
Alexander Phillips
Denied admission. Sounds like Richard spencer at a college campus.
Eli Wilson
Good for him.

TLJ is unironically one of, if not the very best Star Wars movie.
There are two major themes running through it: letting go of the past and defying expectations. Letting go of the past, as in saying goodbye to the old favorites, and making the new characters take center stage. Honest to god, I didn't care about Rey, Finn or Poe after TFA, but I loved them by the end of this.
And defying expectations, as in putting twists and turns in the story. I can't say that you won't see the plot twists coming, but those are a lot better than in an average blockbuster. I wonder if Abrams is salty that Johnson shaped his ideas so much?
I wouldn't call TLJ a deconstruction, though it comes close.
Felt very much like Kotor 2, interpreting the mythos in a different way (Luke has shades of Kreia). The humor was also great, measured gracefully and in the adequate places, Marvel could learn a LOT from this one. The acting is superb, Del Toro, Dern and Tran all brought something to the table.
And there is a silent space battle scene towards the end which left the audience breathless. I could literally hear jaws hitting the floor.
Hudson Morgan
At least he makes kino
Nathaniel Baker
Source? I always wondered how Brick got to get a budget to be made. It's absolute dogshit

Would you say that Looper subverted the audiences expectations for a film to have a coherent plot?
Brody Gomez
Adam Driver is working class stock
Cameron Diaz
the point is to inform about nepotism. Hacks almost always benefited from nepotism and your example is another prime proof of this. >hahahahhhahaha just makes you sound fucking retarded
Grayson Stewart
Fuck this pampered, untalented douche. I don't like Gareth Edwards much but at least that dude came from the bottom. He wrote, directed and edited Monsters in his tiny shitty apartment and amde a name for himself by letting his work speak for him.
Rian Johnson just gets handed shit for him to ruin. Fuck this fat faced fuck.
Wyatt Scott
>movie about time travel "didn't make any sense" stop the presses!

How is it dual-natured in Meritocracy only the best rises to the top. Investing in your kids is fine but this might as well be bribery. Honestly if this is what happened im not surprised i hated this film. I wish someone told me this before i wasted my money though

Literally a normie director, who thought giving him control over THE space fantasy story was a good idea?

>Masks Vader also removed his mask in the end.
>Scar Anakin also had a scar over his eye.
>Heroes Did exactly the same as Yoda. More accurately he's cynical, paranoid and misguided.
>Snoke Same as Sideous.
>Chosen ones Point. But also why should we believe Kylo's word on that?
>Jedi Scriptures "There's nothing in there that she doesn't already possess". Yoda burnt the tree knowing Rey took the books.
>Knights of Ren Again point but with all the characters introduced in this one I can kind of understand.
>Aliens Porgs, Fathiers, Vulptex and a multitude of aliens in the casino.
>Poe Of which he learnt from. It's called character progression.
David Rogers
>removed his mask in the end is not the same as >destroyed his iconic mask at the beginning of his second appearance because the new director is projecting his manchild insecurities onto his work
Clearly it's not the same I'm saying it's similar.. The mask really wasn't that good and he's much better and more intimidating without it as Adam Driver is exceptional and doesn't deserve to have his expressive performance blocked by a mask.
Wyatt Wilson
The humor is largely bad, out of place and jarring. It literally felt like someone came into the writing room and said we haven't had a laugh beat for 10 minutes now quick! They were too afraid to let the audience actually feel and played it safe by making it 'funny' instead.
Ryder Flores
yeah, because THAT'S the stereotype about who succeeds in hollywood...
Gabriel Morgan
A bald assertion isn't an argument. I've already refuted your representation based arguments. Give me something else.
Kevin Carter
Thats right, suck that mouse dick. I wanna see you gobble goofys whitemess next. You gonna be all like Whitney Wisconsin fucking Pluto while porgs ley their eggs inside of you fuck yeah. Disney loves your boi pussy.

Nvr again, gone are the days of Brick, The Brothers Bloom, and Looper. Rian Johnson has lost 1/3 of his once loyal fanbase with his sacrilegious shite of a Star Wars film only worthy of being labeled as fan fiction. His Kino party days are over.
Aaron Taylor
Everything I've ever read about the US college system has always disgusted me.
Tuitions tallying at 50 000$ a year, legacy systems for the children of former alumni, "generous donations" for your child like Kushner or Rian Johnson to be admitted.
Here in France, we might not compete with the U.S. (well actually, I think Polytechnique ranks above all US universities, and Insead gets kudos as a business school even in the US), but at least admissions are contest-based and utterly anonymous. The only way someone might recognize you as being "that guy's son" is when the orals round around, but then that's conceding you've already made it past the first-around.
Of course rich people can still attain the best schools, because they had tutors to shoulder them while they at work preparing, but it's still at the cost of hard word.
Carson Clark
A nice peek at why hollywood sucks shit. Probably why Infiniy Wars should be renamed Rocky VII.
John Thompson
US universities (but only in the engineering side)*

Judging by his interviews, Rian is very passionate about filmmaking and writing in general. He possesses a film student aura, given his public vimeo, website, tumblr and accessibility. He doesn't scream "unreachable professional" to me in anyway. He made three low budget movies, all of which were contained and streamlined enough to gather a cult following following their release, but not a wide audience.
Why Kathleen Kennedy hired him or otherwise considered him to write and direct a major blockbuster is beyond me, since he doesn't have a brand name nor isn't a draw like JJ Abrams or Christopher Nolan. I wouldn't call Rian a safe choice or a corporate yes man, because they gave the guy free reign, at least according to Rian during TLJ interviews.
I think Rian should've stuck with his low budget movies until he was ready to film such a blockbuster that had to tie into a previous movie. I mean, Nolan wanted to make Inception for years but felt that he needed more blockbuster experience to tackle such a project. TLJ, for what its worth, is much larger than Inception in terms of production scale, cost, and risk.
His career as an indie/film student is over. Now that he cucked himself and caused the Star Wars fanbase to fracture, he'll need to reinvent himself when it comes time to direct another film.
Sebastian Howard
>Work all your life to build up your reputation as a film lover. >You will be forever remembered as the guy who fucked up worse than George Lucas.

Ewan McGregor has NEVER been in a better film than AOTC or ROTS
Kayden Hill
Hollywood figured out if you stop putting numbers on the end of them, people tend to forget just how manytimes you've spoonfed them the same crap
