There are people in this world who would never experience what it was like to rent movies and video games from a store such as Blockbuster Video or Hollywood Video. Online streaming services have made it much more easier for parents to neglect their children and use the Internet as the newest medium to babysit their children while they do other shit. Who is to blame for the influence of stay at home services that inevitably make more people more lazier and fatter as seen in the movie, WALL-E. Is it neglectful parents who fuck without thinking of the consequences or the socially inept retards who cannot socialize with other people? This is why this country is in the shape that it is in and it's only going to get worse now that we have a meme in office. Post in this thread if you miss American establishments like Blockbuster.

>tfw the old blockbuster shop in my town still hasn’t been sold yet and the marks left by the BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO sign are still visible
I noticed this too. You must live in a ghetto where people are too afraid to leave their homes and apartments due to fear of being shot by a bunch of gang members.
Physical media is for simps
>that blockbuster smell
>we'll never smell that smell again
We had a local video store we went to in the late 80s/early 90s. They always had a special during the summer. 5 movies for 5 days for $5.
Remember in the mid-00s when blockbuster had those "3 for $15 4 for $20" deals on used DVDs
oh it was like being a kid in a candy shop. Now I have copies of Inside Man and World Trade Center that I'll never watch again
No it’s just a shitty small town in Scotland
>tfw I used to take a peak at the Adults Only binder that had the covers for porn cassettes at my local video store
I miss how everything seemed like an adventure when we went there on friday evenings
SAVED
There is a way we could get it back. We have to encourage kids to become more active and participate in society. The Internet and video games are damaging our kids. We have to teach parents some god damn responsibility and if all else fails then there is always the gas. We cannot let the Jews succeed at corrupting our way of life. We have to fight back now!!!
>Netflix gets away with getting rid of movies one by one
I hate real life
I used to work at blockbuster :(
Growing up and going to Hollywood video with my mom on Fridays after school was the shit. Before it came to town there was a video rental place called west coast video that I would rent SNES games from. I must have rented super battletanks over 20 times before the place shut down. I would shoot and my dad would drive. Good times, brings a tear to a glass eye.
>tfw will never browse the Horror VHS section again
im hoping when the whole net neutrality breaks down, then people will start to turn away from streaming and want to actually go out again. I feel like its kind of working, like vinyl for instance is slowly making a comeback again, so hopefully people will eventually want actual physical copies again and not just stream every single thing into their phone
Also, I moved out to Oregon about a year ago, and they had an awesome big video rental store called Movie Madness that had just about every movie and show that ever came out, and had actual movie props and wardrobe throughout the store, and had movie figurine collectibles above the cashiers.
It was so nice to get to experience that environment again, and get to go out on fridays to pick up a movie. And the place was always busy too, especially on fridays. Sucks now that I'm back on the east coast where the town im in isnt into old school stuff like that.
$1 movies Tuesday at our local video store. I remember when I Hired out anaconda when I was a kid. It’s on Netflix now. It’s not the same as hiding under blankets in your couch fortress. Memories.
Fuck Blockbuster
The old mom and pop rental stores was where it was at. The good ones went all out. They'd have whatever promotional material hanging from whatever little space they could find because if there's an extra 7 7/8"x 4 5/8"X1...that's room for another movie. The place was like a fucking Aladdin's cave of wonders. You think Blockbuster would carry any movies with series sex scenes or really controversial content LOL. Place was for soccer moms who would throw a fit if little Billy saw the back of a movie that had a woman in skimpy clothing. Oh, and the good mom and pop stores didn't rape you on late fees. Their business depends on you constantly coming back every week or they go out of business.
In Australia, the last video store in our local area closed down in September. Now we're left with these fucking kiosks and you can only choose from new release and popular movies.
Hamilton Scotland?!?FACT!!!
>>tfw will never browse the Horror VHS section again
... Socioeconomic decline
Markets do not level the playing field
Race to the bottom
Class riot. USA is doomed before Nov/2020
Depends whether Donald accepts his fuckingmedicine, and in the case of the cabinet declaring him unfit for office
At least president pence would stop fucking with healthcare and individual taxes. Remove government control and reverse roe vs wade. That would be his platform and he would succeed
Compare to the unknowns of waking up to see I north Korea bombed us yet... Fuck drum pf
Deluded
...
President Pence would reinstate electroshock therapy for gays so why wouldn't he tackle issues like abortion?
>There are people in this world who would never experience what it was like to rent movies and video games from a store such as Blockbuster Video or Hollywood Video
Awwww, you're experiencing quarterlife crisis.
>much more easier
stopped reading. you illiterate fucking troglodyte. i almost fell for your nostalgic smarm too. begone, cretin.
What place was better
Blockbuster or Hollywood video?
Hollywood.
These stores were garbage. Congratulations on being nostalgic for poorly ran, corporatized garbage. You're childhood was a poorly designed product manufactured by corporations that couldn't give two shits about you. Local rental stores were vastly superior and the few niche stores that are still in business today are the height of kino rental. If you're in ATX check out I heart video for an actual rental experience, or any other similar stores in major cities. Last time I checked Denver had a pretty cool locally ran video store. Blockbuster, Hollywood, and anything similar were trash and you should feel bad for missing them.
Renting a video was like 5.99 right for a day or something?maybe 5 days for older movies?
We can get Netflix's whole online library of movies and shows for a whole month now all on HD. How is that less comfy?
i loved these deals from the small shop in my town. every week i would get 5 old horror movies and the kid that worked there would love to talk to our family about movies with decent recommendations on those horror movies he even would let us rent new nes games a few days before release.
>it's a "Sup Forums radicalization mind-poison disguised as nostalgia thread" episode
life seemed better back then because you were younger and were more sheltered from the harsh realities of life & responsibility.
Friday nights like this were the excitement of my childhood because I would go to Blockbuster to rent a video game and movie. My mom even let me buy the large bucket of popcorn they had.
How would removing Roe vs Wade fix our economy? You started your comment out with economics then went full evangelical retard. I mean seriously, how does abortion removal prevent the economic collapse of this nation? You religious nutters are fucking insane.
>remove government control
from what? everything? so vague that only idiots would beli....never mind.
>deluded
about the little fags with nukes and literally no understanding of the implications behind them? kim and trump should just settle this with a fistfight so someone can kill them both with a fucking sniper
Unironically, this. Blockbuster was terrible, and I guarantee your parents probably hated dealing with them. People only have nostaligia for Blockbuster because they didn't have to deal with their bullshit firsthand; I was glad when they started closing.
...
a communist living in the imperialist metropole must hope for the defeat of his country
they've been slowly trying to kill off their dvd rental service for years by not replacing fucked up discs. even though they do that and throttle accounts that return movies quickly, it's probably still better their shit selection on streaming.
used to subscribe to a competitor called greencine. took and extra day or two to get the discs, because they were in california, but it felt comfy like walking into a local video store. site curated and user submitted lists, informative primers, contests, discussion boards. i miss it. netflix drove them out of business though. they used to be the place to go to get hard to find movies, but netflix kept expanding their collection and increased their shipment centers, so the community features were the only thing greencine had left. won a simpsons season 4 or 5 dvd boxset from one of their contests and a shitty william shatner movie.
They still have several Blockbusters in Alaska. I guess due to shitty internet and being stuck inside all winter people need to rent dvds so they don't kill each other.
At least you didn't call me fascist.
There's your YOU
fascism is a million times smarter than any libertarian idea tossed around.
I still see independent rental places in rural areas all the time. Probably mostly because of shitty internet, but easy access to porn is also a huge factor (a couple owners have flat out admitted that to me, actually). Considering that, I have no idea why Blockbuster still has stores open, except if there's literally nothing else around.
Oh god not you again, I was talking to you about Sarti’s the other day
I miss how shitty yet wholesome the 90's were.
Irvine a shit
T. Kilmarnock
>has a rational argument
>starts spewing shit about the news immediately
The desperation of seeing the movie you want out. Go check with mature young adult working counter to see if it’s been returned and just not processed yet. Based video clerk checks return bin, but breaks the news lightly To young user the sad news the transformers the movie has not been returned
>tfw someone stuck the wrong case behind and you don't notice until you get home and you have to make up some lie about it not working to get them to swap it for something else
President pence wouldn't be sucking the government dry, and from Alabama's decision to not accept pedophiles he would do his best to keep abortion legal according to states laws. He does not believe the government should mandate
All other replies in favor of I thank you and encourage you to spread the word for our savior Pence
>"dad can we rent a movie/game?!"
>"no"
man I miss those days
I wish we had I Heart Video stores in California.
Get a room, put carpet instead of mossaics, spread some DVD cleaner into the walls, get packs of popcorn and candy and place them in the room
Near the end there blockbuster was also doing midnight releases of games with preorder bonuses. I still have this stupid thing around from 2008.
I have always pirated everything, even during the blockbuster era.
Kilmarnock a shit
t. Ayr, but born in Irvine
I remember ages ago when my parents got a gift card to Hollywood Video and they said we needed a membership to rent. I don't think we ever went back since I recall it being something you needed to pay for. I could be remembering things wrong though. Thankfully never had to deal with Blockbuster all that much since our Drug Mart was closer and they still do rentals to this day. There was also another place in the same plaza, but its name eludes me, and they had a bigger selection. Blockbuster never came to our shitty tiny town and we didn't need it anyway. Anyone who's nostalgic for inconvenience is a god damn moron. Nowadays I can buy used DVD's for low prices or stream stuff I don't want in my collection.
>I noticed this too. You must live in a ghetto
Ghetto people are the only ones still renting movies. They can't afford, and often are too dumb to use, technology. Around here they use those vending machines that burn you a DVD.
>im hoping when the whole net neutrality breaks down
Yea about that. So when is that happening? With all the fear mongering seen here and on social media and Redit you would think all our internet would be throttled by now.
>hey user what’s that on your bookshelf
Can you fucking imagine?
In game maps are kind of nerdy, but at least you can put them up.
Fuck sartis
I remember getting a Rugrats cassette tape at some point either in 1999 or 2000. Anyone know what I'm talking about? One of the songs was sung by the twins.
God im so old I remember trying out the virtual boy at blockbuster and thinking it was amazing.
Fuck you it’s good
yeah i had two of those things.
There are people ITT who have nostalgia for FUCKING BLOCKBUSTER, THE SINGLE BIGGEST PILE OF SHIT THAT EVER EXISTED IN THE FILM INDUSTRY.
The day they died is one of the greatest karmic justice moments in cinema history.
Blockbuster was WORSE than any online streaming service. They were like Netflix + AIDS.
And they have missed nothing you autistic shit
Remember when Blockbuster killed the home video market, ruined horror, action and sci-fi movies and tried their hardest to ruin independent cinema?
Oh, but never mind, they have 400 copies of Disney Animated Sequel #49598 and you'll never not be able to get a copy of Bio-Dome.
>tfw I used to spend hours browsing the horror and adult second at my local video stores.
>then blockbuster came and horror and porno stopped existing.
>Now we're left with these fucking kiosks and you can only choose from new release and popular movies.
So...Blockbuster?
>the blockbuster video store got slowly consumed by the pharmacy next door to it
>the only remnant of it now is a DVD vending machine out the front of the pharmacy
old carpet, plastic, popcorn butter, and sugar.
>stupid millennial doesn't believe anyone could have been an adult when blockbuster was still around
Reddit was a mistake.
