What do you think about the hollywood phenomenon of releasing "twin" films? I had a conversation the other day with someone about it and claimed it's actually quite common but unfortunately couldn't really give many examples at the top of my head, so the other person simply scoffed it off.
ITT post examples of "twin" films.
Pic related is the one (and only) that always pops up at the top of my head for some reason.
John Howard
Despicable me and Megamind
Alexander Collins
olympus has fallen and white house down
Juan Price
Deep Impact and Armageddon
Grayson Williams

Jacob Myers
Antz and A Bug's Life
Ayden Diaz
Never Say Never Again and Octopussy.
Jace Campbell

Nicholas Nelson
Volcano > Dante's Peak Antz > A Bug's Life Armageddon > Deep Impact Toy Story > Small Soldiers
Grayson Ramirez
Mirror mirror and Snow white & the Huntsman
Juan King
I remember liking both as a child with an interest in space.
Aaron Davis
Any recent examples?
Justin Anderson
Great additions, guys. In retrospect Antz and A Bug's Life seems like such an obvious one.
Was just about to post this one.
They're both great movies, despite the reviews.
Asher Jones
The two Steve Jobs movies.
Joshua Garcia
Perhaps Rough Night and Girls Trip. They're somewhat similar?
Mason Ramirez
I'm bad with dates, maybe Finding Nemo and Shark Tale?
Small Soldiers and Toy Story only had a similar premise. The execution was completely different.
Levi Roberts
they have to be released around the same time to count as twins
Camden Morales
The Prestige and The Illusionist
Henry Perez
Friends With Benefits and No Strings Attached.
Xavier Sanders
>Small Soldiers and Toy Story only had a similar premise. The execution was completely different. Duh, so did Antz and A Bugs Life
Kayden Gray
This is the End>The World's End
Jace Gomez
>Finding Nemo and Shark Tale 2003 and 2004 respectively, I guess the times are close enough to consider both twin films
Brandon Lopez
Interstellar - The Martian Hercules (2014) - The Legend of Hercules (2014) The Magnificent Seven - The Hateful Eight - The Ridiculous Six
Charles Baker
snatched
Levi Foster
fabtastic four - fucktastic five

Adrian Collins
Reservoir Dogs - Goodfellas
Asher Martinez
Event Horizon > Sphere
Jaxon Clark
Star Wars - Star Trek
Easton Martinez
This happens way too often, I don't understand it, maybe a certain script goes around for a lot of time, then when someone picks it up then another studio race to beat them?
Wonder if there is any good article analyzing this phenomenon.
Eli Ramirez
BvS and Civil War
Bentley Robinson
2001: A Space Odyssey - Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Brody Howard
Does this count?
Jeremiah Perez
How recent is Churchill? I feel like Dunkirk might go better with Darkest Hour.
Matthew Myers
This ones pretty easy to explain, since they released close to 2012, and there was a lot of buzz about ends of worlds because of a proto-beaner calendar.
Nathaniel Rogers
The Illusionist and The Prestige.
Why does this happen, is it on purpose? Or are people, in similar environments destined to follow patterns and trends. I wonder how predictable we are.
Nathan Carter
free advertisement for both movies?
Wyatt Torres
I read once there's a lot to do with really low level corporate espionage, but that's a fairly strong term for fuckers hanging around places trying to gauge what rival studios have greenlit. Rumors spread, leaks happen, scripts getting passed around might get ripped off.
Easton Turner
checked, but this sort of thing usually goes unnoticed. Like weirdly unnoticed. Almost like the media tries to forget both movies even exist.
Nathan Walker
CGI Jungle Book. Both were filmed at the same time, but the one with Andy Serkis got delayed 2 years after they understood they couldn't release before Disney
