Not really. Some bits perhaps, but not really. It's about as accurate of a representation of the modeling industry as Call of Duty is a representation of war.
I really liked The Neon Demon, though.

Fun fact: as written, the ending was originally quite different. It didn't work and they had made a few changes while shooting anyway so Abbey came up with the new ending.
(Keep in mind that the rest of the script is also a little different, so not everything makes sense.):

>Abbey is the only one who really wants to kill Elle (the others regret it immediately)
>Abbey kills Jenna Malone
>the Elle eating sequence (Bella agrees to do it) is extremely graphic
>Abbey uses Elle's car because she wants to BE Elle
>They switch to Bella's car anyway
>the ending photoshoot sequence is very long and mainly features Abbey
>Bella cries because she's insecure and flees
>most of it is Abbey getting bullied by other girls and then getting locked inside a restroom
>Then we switch to Bella
>she regrets eating Elle
>Bella's character goes to her favorite surgeon and tells him to marry her
>he disagrees
>she spergs out and cuts herself into pieces using his surgical equipment
>Abbey is screaming inside the restroom and can feel Elle's ghost haunting her
>Abbey is freed from the restroom by the photographer (whom she is in love with and had a fling with once, a plotline that is completely abandoned in the film)
>Abbey confesses she ate Elle but the photographer doesn't believe her
>the photographer says she's very pretty, just like Elle
>She cries because she's happy her plan of consuming Elle's beauty worked
>Then she starts maniacally laughing while looking in the lens
>She stretches her eyelids away from her eyes using her fingers (seriously, that's a description in the script. Imagine someone putting in contact lenses)
>The camera zooms in while Abbey is still laughing while looking at the lens, reaching peak maniacallyness
>Cut to black

Honestly it's not edgy enough, only a few characters were mental rather than all of them. I used to have a group of friends in the modelling industry and every single person I met that was involved was a complete disaster case who was on drugs/addicted to prescription drugs/alcoholic/suicidally depressed/self harming/eating disorder/doing prostitution on the side/closet gay/getting cucked/psychotically insecure about their looks, they'd all been molested as kids and there was always dodgy shit going on constantly where anyone with any influence was always dating sometimes underage hopeful models.

Funny how laymen look at them and think their lives must be great just because they're attractive when in reality they'd probably kill themselves trying to live one week of their lives.

It's surreal how well Refn captures this secluded world, with a stern but really realistic look at the drive to become the best.

Your average episode of 's top model is probably a better depiction/critique of the modelling industry.
Yeah, young girls are used and most of them are then discarded, it's a very competetive industry, drug use and sexual favours run rampant, everyone knows it.
