WTF Sup Forums. For years I've heard people rave about Doctor Who, talk about it like it's the Britbong equivalent of Star Trek. And yet, watching some episodes...it's absolute trash. Almost unbelievably bad. Is there a meme I'm missing?

Series 1 is pretty cheesy. Tennants years have sone great episodes, the show is actually "good" during series 5,6 and 7a. The Smith years with Amy/Rory

Not really. I bought the meme and watched the 2005 revival. I stuck with it because I was a young soyboy. I dropped it with S10. I went back to watch the old stuff from the 60s, but they were so boring and childish that I couldn't justify wasting hours and hours on it.

It was never good, and never on par with star trek. It's not even sci fi.

I don't think it's possible to appreciate without having watched it as a kid. And it went to complete shit, I dropped it a few episodes into Capaldi.

I gave Capaldi a pass until he willingly delivered the "History is a whitewash" line.
It's not just the writer or showrunner or even the BBC fucked up diversity quotas.
The star was complicit too. That was a literal fuck you to every white person in
the audience, that they had no right to their own history.

no. it is trash.

most fans first see it when they are children, and they have unrealistic expectations of it as adults, but the show has gone seriously downhill in the past few years. there's no point in doing anything if the entire universe can be destroyed and then re-created from someone's memories.

if you want a clear idea with what's wrong with the show, read a few comments from the generals. i was an autistic geek at high school but i would cross the road to avoid who fans.

Doctor Who us a show that 99% of the time is hot garbage, but that 1% of the time that it's god? Its so much better than the rest of it that it gets lavished with more praise than it deserves for merely being competent.

Being a Doctor Who fan is chasing the dragon. You watch in hope that the current episode is going to be one of the good ones. It rarely is, and even if it is, it's never as good as the first really good one you watched.

Human Nature/Family of Blood two parter
Vincent and the Doctor
Dalek

Everything else varies from tolerable to pure shit.

Oh and Waters of Mars. That was a good one.

But none of those episodes are horror. They might have some horror elements, but they're just action adventure.

Modern Who after eccleston is trash. Some ok casting but awful awful scripts and production. Head back to the 70s Tom Baker era for sensible chuckles and some interesting sci fi ideas.
