Ive seen the first and second saw movie. can someone give me a rundown of what happened to this franchise? what timeline or whatever is jigsaw 2017 supposed to be?

I unironically think they'll bring Jigsaw back from the dead in the next installments. Bringing him back from the dead is less far fetched than what they've already done in this series. nuJigsaw is a coroner, he swapped Jigsaw's body with a look-a-like before it was used for the autopsy. The look-a-like isn't too far out of the question, nuJigsaw already found three look-a-likes to recreate the barn game.

I get they wanted this movie to be more "fun" and light hearted than the other ones but I think this quip was fucking ridiculous and really took me out of the movie.

The only Saw I really enjoyed as a 'serious movie' was Saw 1. The rest are basically black comedies with every sequel trying to one-up the previous and make the plot more and more convoluted. I mean doesn't 2, 3 and 4 even take place during the exact same time or something? It's hilarious. The gore and the traps, most of the time I find them unnecessary (the irony) and I just want to go back to watching my main man Costas Mandylor trick people.

Honestly with all things considered, I think Saw is a surprisingly competent series of movies. Especially when you compare it to something more serious and socially acceptable, like Star Wars which is also done with no real planning whatsoever and is WORSE.

I think they're best described as "lovable" and "endearing". Even when these movies are at their worse they're still likable. The people behind the camera genuinely care about these films, and whether or not you think they succeeded, they genuinely care about trying to entertain you and want to give you your money's worth. Obviously certain plot threads or characters go absolutely nowhere, certain mysteries get messy resolutions or don't get answered at all, but you can see they were always trying.

I'm at work and can't open youtube (but for one insane reason Sup Forums works perfectly).

It's a shame the kill itself was awful CGI but the prosthetic they used to represent the aftermath was excellent.

The traps in this one were being controlled live by Jigsaw. He would give them a green light when they bled. He released collars when they injected the correct antidote. He was controlling everything so he could adjust things accordingly. The videotape for the grain silo mentions Ryan's name specifically, as he was the one who triggered the wire trap. Mitch's tape for the spiral specifically mentioned he admitted to selling a boy a motorcycle, which he had done so about twenty minutes ago when they were being dragged by the chains. The idea for this barn game was Jigsaw was still setting certain shit up as they were in previous rooms.

That is saw in a nutshell, they always have bullshit which is based on things the guy never could have predicted or known in advance.

The first one was a low budget movie that got picked up by lionsgate.

Saw 2 was originally a different movie script called the desperate written by the director of saw 2 and when people said it was too similar to saw lionsgate basically rewrote it to fit it in the saw universe.

After the success of saw 2, saw 3 was greenlit.

After that the saw franchise was known as a guarantee money maker. Lionsagte commisioned 3 more sequels. This gave the writers more to work with and wrote a more intertwined stories.

After that the writers began on working on the final 2 films. Saw endgame part 1 and 2. But saw 6got beat in the box office by paranormal activity and so lionsgate was done with the franchise.

The forced the director of 6 days before the shoot to direct and combined endgame part 1 and 2 into the shitshow known as saw the final chapter. With it being marketed as "the final chapter " and being overpriced 3d tickets lionsgate got their money and was done with the franchise.

Then in 2017 jigsaw happened. Which is just a rehash of saw 5 and 1.

The reason he died is such bullshit. The rules were that he and Logan were supposed to confess their sins or have their heads sliced open. But because he apparently "made Logan confess first," he "broke the rules" and therefore died. Such bullshit. They just wanted to show off the laser trap.

Logan didn't give a shit about rule breaking, he was going to kill him regardless of what happened. He just wanted the confession on tape to aid his plan of framing the chief.

Then in the inevitable next movie, they need to have Lawrence and Logan face off like Hoffman and Lawrence and Jill did. Because Logan broke his own rules

No, they need to keep Gordon away from this series. The Gordon reveal was a travesty it should be ignored. I think the opening scene of Jigsaw 2 could be a flashback of Eleanor entering the bathroom and finding a half dead Hoffman, Mandylor's final appearance in the series. She could have a short convo with him before taking the hacksaw as a souvenir.

It doesn't make much sense unless Logan does some more bullshit at the start of Jigsaw 2 to tie up the loose ends. I don't think Logan intends on the police ever finding out the chief is dead, his plan is to continue the killings free of suspicion, allowing the authorities to find his body would be counter productive. But a big part of his plan was allowing Eleanor to escape, so she'll bring the authorities back to the barn. I can only imagine it'll be something like he burns down the barn, although I'm not sure if a fire would prevent a body from being identified via DNA, dental records are probably out of the question since his head was sliced apart.

Whatever the case may be I'm sure Stolberg has something in mind.

The authorities were already at the barn when she escaped, they are going to find that body in about 5 minutes. It's gonna require a major ass pull to reconcile that.

They weren't. It was just the chief, the chief went alone, even ignored internal affair's call. She fled, flagged down a car (which I'm certain is Logan) and just has to get back to civilization / a cell signal so she can alert the authorities. A fire would take a minute or two to start, but again, I'm no forensics expert and have no idea if a fire prevents a corpse from being identified via DNA.
