Rey vs. Luke (TLJ vs. ESB)

Do what you want with it.
Rey's still a Mary Sue in TLJ as opposed to Luke's actual struggles in ESB.

i agree rey is pretty much a failed attempt to create a new female heroin archetype for scifi. She should be older and wiser and have some plausible background story and of course be shown failing and struggling rather than winning effortlessly.

bump

This.

They tried to make her fail so the few things she did looked better but they missed the mark and she comes off lazy in some scenes. The moment were she lifts the rocks should have felt more like an accomplishment with what the tone of the scene tried to imply. But I felt like she should have done it, up till then she should be steam rolling through stuff that others took much longer to do.

Also she was kind of a dick to those little dudes who fixed the place up.

Nazis are NOT tolerated. Fuck. Off.

Or I will punch you.

Gotta love how much they are leaning into this. Back in the day we used to throw it around because it was a joke to make such things such a trivial joke. Now a whole new generation is doing for us, its like an oldfags wet dream.

She didn't get any lightsaber training from Luke though

It's never stated Luke doesn't know how to swim, he probably learned in the 3 year gap between anh and esb since if he's a pilot he'd need to learn that shit

Who would you rather fuck? OT Luke or Rey?

It's a very tough call for me but I'm going with Luke.

>dick to those little dudes
when she constantly fucked up their home i was getting pissed. no one in the theater found it funny either except this bald fat dude in front of me who laughed at everything that was supposed to be "funny". bitch shouldve stayed on that planet to fix their homes before leaving, and it shouldve been a lesson

youtube.com/watch?v=44H2_cu02P4

Weren't those part of the old jedi temple they were restoring and not their actual houses? Still kinda fucked up.

bump

The part with the praetorian guard pissed me off the most. Those guys are basically pain-roided sith cultists in magical armor but she takes them all on and wins. Ok buddy.

If a soyboy punches a Nazi and nobody hears it, does it make a sound?

jesus christ in retrospect this scene is fucking terrible

bump

...le fuck?

What do you mean "retrospect"? I still remember rolling my eyes so hard that it expressed an even more exceptional level of disbelief and exasperation.

>Bad guys are NOT tolerated
>Until we make a mind link and can talk for a bit
This movie had no more to do with Nazis than the OT did.

Luke, by far

I just watched ESB the other day, can confirm.

>rey recovered sacred jedi texts beforehand
i don't remember that at all. do you mean she was intuitively born with all jedi knowledge?

At the end of the movie you can see she took all the books on the Falcon

She smuggles them on the falcon before Yoda blows up the tree

That's a nice image. Have one of my rare Lukes in exchange.

>hmm I know, lets have an 18 year old gear know more technical and engineering knowledge than our greatest hero has about his own shit! thanks disney, now im definitely on board to only vote democrat, embrace progressive politics and give up my guns!

>tfw lost my Star Wars folder

I had a lot of Cute Luke

Buddy of mine used to do this hair twirl thing. Despite him actually having pretty sever developmental disorder he would get crazy amounts of girls. he'd just say "watch this" then twirl his hair for a few hours and eventually a girl pops into his life for about a year. These girls would be head over heels in love with him until they finally get it. It's not an act, it's not him trying to be cute, he really is, actually, partially, mentally retarded in some way. Talked to one of these girls recently and she covered her face saying "i cant believe i actually dated him" i corrected her saying "no, you fucking LOVED him". haha good times.

Do you guys think he got fiddled by a creepy producer back then?

She damn near killed two of them when she was spazzing out the the lightsaber

It's ok user. I lost mine too. But we will rebuild, just like Luke did after ESB.

Oh, you're sad because a raghead mowed down like 5 people? when I was your age, I left school to bullseye gooks from a helicopter in the middle of some god forsaken jungle. I fried so many slopes, they named a brand of rice after me. Don't tell me you have it hard because you're a pathetic kissless virgin. You can act sad when you have to leave behind the lady-boy you fell in love with and made passionate steamy love to in a collapsing bamboo shack, just like I did. You think I felt good about firebombing his chink village and watching our fuck-hut burn to the ground? We were going to build our lives together there! You know what? Fuck you.

>She should be older and wiser and have some plausible background story

Sounds like George's original plan of having Luke as an old general. Which got shitcanned for a lot of really good reasons.

I don't know but it's confirmed that Carrie got him drunk and raped him.

>Luke "draws back from the precipice", dies on a literal precipice.
Fucking Frost couldn't poetry like this.

I bet Carrie made him "draw back from the precipice" when they fucked too.

>But we will rebuild, just like Luke did after ESB.
Oh, we'll rebuild, just like Mark Hamill did to his face after his motorcycle accident.

If anything the accident made him even cuter.

Extra Special Bitters was obviously the superior film.

bump

No

He looked like he'd been through a lot. I like it when qts get banged up.

What the fuck is wrong with those comments; who the fuck are those "people"

She still really doesn't have any failures. They had an opportunity with the mention that she went towards the dark with no hesitation, but there were no consequences or repercussions after she ignored Luke's apprehension and went straight into the dark side hole. Falling for Snoke's trap would have been another failure had it not turned out that she was right to have faith in Kylo and resulted in Snoke's death.

Nigga her disobeying Luke led to the only genuinely good parts of the movie.

>They want Ren to be the main villain in the trilogy
>He already lost to Rey in the first movie
They could have made him a threat in TLJ by having him defeat Rey easily after he killed deformed False-Sheev. It could have been the perfect moment for Rey to experience loss, except they didn't. They even had Rey hold her own and win against Luke. Luke, the goddamn son of the Chosen One. Luke should have beaten her like a twig.

bump

>decapitates vader after 30 minutes of training

Sure, but my point was that it was never treated as a failure or flaw for her as a character.

>decapitates
It was a mere shoulder graze.
All it did was cause Vader to go "UGGGGHHHH! OHHHHH WAAUUUGGGHHHH!" in a very autistic manner.

I really don't care about who Rey's parents were. Sure, if she was related to somebody we knew, the story could be more interesting, but her Force sensitivity doesn't bother me. What does bother me is that she is inexplicably good at everything ever. How can anybody take these movies seriously when this rookie is slicing down people with years of experience with barely any trouble?

bump

>lightsabers can cut through steel like butter, but can't penetrate leather?
ok

youtu.be/pUbXyd-fK8Q?t=1m55s

t. toxic masculine shitlord

Because it wasn't. She did the right thing. Luke is old and busted and doesn't know what's right anymore.

Rian Johnson had Rey throw her lightsaber to Kylo because he dropped his and, for some reason, didn't just use the force to pick it back up.

I don't know how anybody can defend Rey as not being a Mary Sue. There are plenty of Mary Sues in fiction, but a lot of them have training and experience to somewhat justify their lack of flaws. Rey has no justification for her capabilities.

It honestly seems pretty obvious that Rian Johnson was unfamiliar with Star Wars, and did very little research prior to writing his movie. This explains his mistakes, and why he thinks Yoda is a crazy person.

bump

It won't matter.
The deluded fancucks will keep suckling from Disney's tit for MOAR.

I always loved watching Luke when I was a young boy. I don't know if I was attracted to him, but certainly drawn to him.

>I don't know if I was attracted to him,
>inb4 homosexual phase

>pic references my favorite kino

But if she's not 100% perfect, little girls won't buy Rey costumes and toys!

You where simply magnetically drawn to the Hero archetype. We all where.
Don't let the sodomites that haunt these boards defile that for you.

>little girls won't buy Rey costumes and toys!
Are those even selling at all?
No one wants to be Rey, Finn, Poe, Rose, or Holdo.
They're all equally fucking boring as shit.

I know we like to complain about Rey being a Mary Sue
>Because she is
But we've never discussed how to actually fix her character or Nuwars in general. So without further adiu i will now attempt to fix Rey and a little bit of Luke from TFA/TLJ.
But not Finn or Poe because frankly thats a whole new set of problems i don't even know how to untangle.
>Finn like Anakin would be a scavenger/repairman of old shuttles and ships.
>This will give her the skill level to pilot ships and repair things in general.
>At a young age Rey is able to force push and pull small objects no bigger than a wrench but she's hit a roadblock there and can no longer improve by herself.
>Rey and co are captured she now uses the force to pull the key/card out of a jailers pocket.

*reads first two lines*

Luke deflects three blaster rounds form a training droid in under 24 hours of training and uses the force to help him blow up the death star only having the contact of what is the force? and blindfold me up daddy.

Rey is a Mary Sue though

The Mary Sue issue with Rey is very easy to solve. She has a force bond with Kylo right? Remember in Kotor 2 how knowledge and information was shared between the exile and his companions through this force bond? All the director has to say (and I pray it isn't JJ) is that Rey had a force bond with Kylo that had been MAINTAINED by Snoke. However, since Snoke is dead that bond is crumbling and Rey is helpless. That's all they have to do!

So the reason why she is so good is because she has been stealing all of her knowledge from Kylo.

Director for 9 is confirmed as J.J.

>Rey and Finn are chased by Kylo who proceeds to beat Finn bloody.
>Afraid for her friends life for the first time Rey taps into the power of the dark side and ambushes Kylo with a giant Boulder
>Impressed, Kylo offers to train Rey in the ways of the force.
>Recognizing that Kylo is a heartless monster who killed his own father she retreats with Finn when the planet is blowing up.
>She then uses the map to find Luke and offer him the lightsaber.

His armour is made from Plastisteel in canon.

Meaning it has all the material properties of steel but looks like a cheap 1980s sci-fi plastic costume.

Force bond could work. Star wars is still fucked on the why the hell Kylo and Rey are bonded in the first place for no reason.

Sauce?

To fix Rey, you'd have to rewrite TFA & TLJ completely from scratch.
>Have Rey be like a homunculus/puppet born from a virgin birth similar to Anakin.
>Have it so her sudden growth in the force is due to her nature as an experimental force syphon that taps into the living force in all things, like a crucible or the Jedi Exile from KOTOR II .
>Snoke is obsessed with her because he wants to weaponize her (similar to what Palpatine did with Anakin) and he wants to feed off of her life force to prolong himself, as he's been doing for over a thousand years.
>Have Rey turn to the dark side. It would explain her arrogance and uppity personality. Her shift would cause Kylo Ren to turn back to the light side, but slowly. She would become Snoke's apprentice/life support.
>Episode IX would be about Rey becoming conflictive about her place in the universe and Ben Solo trying to redeem himself and find a way to save Rey and beat Snoke.
You can add more to it or fix it up if you wish.
Sadly, we won't get that kind of development due to Kathleen "The Force is Female" Kennedy's insistence on pursuing a political agenda as opposed to crafting an actual decent narrative.

Also, we have Kylo in Episode 9 try to become the next Supreme Leader, but the other Knights of Ren back one of the Moffs (I'm thinking this is where we bring Thrawn?). Kylo is forced to flee because the First order wants to kill him.

It is revealed that the First Order is actually rather small and is now engaging in conflict with remnants of the New Republic. Despite being small they are winning due to the genius tactics of Thrawn.

Luke isn't dead something else happened when he vanished. His whole story is about him seeking Kylo and trying to save him from the dark side to make up for his failings as a teacher.

Rey is separated from Finn, Poe and Rose. Rey finds herself on on of the Malachor planets and has been (unknowingly) drawn their by Snoke. Snoke's body is dead, but he exists as a dark spirit. On this Malachor world (maybe Malachor 2?) Rey come into contact with a massive amount of Sith and Jedi halocons. She begins her training as a Jedi in earnest, now no longer leaching off of Kylo.

(Maybe the force ghost of Kreia is present, but I'm sure if this would work)

Snoke has drawn her to the planet and tries to possess her. Rey spends all of her time between training, avoiding Snoke's now insane force ghost.

Poe, Finn and Rose are trying to unite the various factions that were once apart of the New Republic. Finn is angry at Rose for saving him because her actions led to many people dying. Finn called Rose selfish for just wanting to save him. Poe manages to enlist likeminded individuals to his cause and become a general of of his small army

(This would be roughly the first half of the film, but honestly their'd need to be two parts to episode 9)

What do you all think?

>Have Rey be like a homunculus/puppet born from a virgin birth similar to Anakin.

>OP
this is what you get when you let harry potter fans make a starwars

>His armour is made from Plastisteel
>Plastisteel
>Plastic
It's almost as if Star Wars is a marketing front to push the sales of merchandise to autistic manchildren like it was always meant to be or something...

Snoke literally said in the movie he created the bond.

I'm hoping that he gets fired. I didn't hate the Force Awakens, but it was sort of a generic Star Wars, or Star Wars-like, film. I think he is a good director, but I feel like he can only make okay films, but nothing fantastic.

>in tfa all Kylo wants is to get his hands on his grandfathers lightsaber
>bitch throws it to him, he doesnt even react to it at all
>oh i didnt really want it

>Luke deflects three blaster rounds form a training droid in under 24 hours of training and uses the force to help him blow up the death star
Luke was the son of of the chosen one and Obi-Wan was guiding him when he blew up the death star. Rey does similar asspulls, but had nobody to guide her and has no reason for being so strong. Did you even watch the fucking movies?

They said in the movie that Snoke did it.

>As she hands Luke the lightsaber he breaks down crying finally the only remants of his dad is returned to him.
>Rey desires to be taught in the ways of the force and become a jedi from the legends
>Luke explains that being a jedi isn't all its cracked up to be but ultimately relents.
>Luke explains the reason he is on this planet is to find lost force techniques specifically one that is able to cut one off from the force.
>Luke explains how Snoke seduced ben to the dark side, but that he couldn't bear to kill his own nephew.
>Now Kylo is so strong in the force a duel between them can only result in death for one of them.
>This is why he disappeared for so many years so that he can save his nephew.

good story

I still don't understand why they didn't turn her to the Dark Side in TLJ. It would have been a decent twist that went in a different direction to ESB, created some high stakes for the third movie as Finn goes off on a quest to rescue her, also it would have represented a massive flaw in her character that would have negated all Mary Sue arguments. Not only that, but for all nu Star Wars fans wanting a stronk female character, she would almost certainly be redeemed in the next movie by resisting the Dark Side, which would make her technically more powerful than any previous Force user except for Vader.

It's not like the last third of the film would need to have been changed much. All she did was lift some rocks which where only there because the writers needed some way for Rey to save everyone.

Oh and the part about Malachor I'm thinking the when the Malachor 5 blue up some of the halocrons survived the explosion and fell like meteorite onto the surface.

Malachor 2 is where Snoke is from and he learned to use the dark side from the Sith halocrons. He wasn't present in the PT or OT because his civilization was primitive and didn't have space travel. He got off the planet some time after Palpatine died when space travelers came to his world. He killed them took their ship and between then and TFA he became involved with remnants of the empire, but kept his identity and force powers secret waiting for the right moment to strike.

This.

Oh yeah I know why it happens but the new movie is taking the direction that bloodline means jack shit and that basically, the force acts in response to whatever imbalance there is within the galaxy, in this case, there was too much dark so the force awoke in Rey to act as a counter/balance. Now do I like the concept, no but that's what they're doing.

And who did girls want to be? Elsa and Anna, two girls who are stereotypically female in just about every way.

All the advertising was hinting at Rey going dark it wouldn't have been a twist at all.

In the OT is just a very simple story about good vs. bad, heroes rescuing damsel in distress and learning how to be good despite the temptation to do evil.

I think Lucas changed between the OT and PT. I don't think the Jedi were originally gonna be force buddhist monks. This lost of a definitive good and evil is what hurt the PT, but its totally abandonment in the ST has ruined this trilogy.

>Luke agrees to train Rey the next day.
>Rey demonstrates her force push and pull ability.
>Luke askes her to levitate a boulder
>Rey is unable to and Luke chuckles
>In anger she taps into the dark side and lifts boulder overhead.
>Luke admonishes her and aplogizes cue lecture about the dark side.
>Luke gives yoda/like advice on the object weight is only in your mind
>Rey lifts the boulder.
>Luke praises her and says she's better than him at his age
>Rocky montage of Luke and Rey practicing the Light saber and the force
>Rey recieves a distress call and must leave
>Although Luke knows both of them aren't ready he knows Leia is in trouble and agrees to help.
>They pack the jedi artifacts/books onto the falcon and fly away.

Rey is a sith thought.

completely missing the point.

To be honest I'd be interested to see how they press on with 9 hopes are not exactly up though.

>Rey is a sith thought.
Umm, no sweetie. That would be sexist and go against the agenda.
