Close the Iris!

It's Apophis! ... and his dubs have overidden the Iris mechanism! Prepare for incoming attack!

I'm currently watching Atlantis and I really don't remember this show being so lackluster. So many missed opportunities.

I mean it's set in fucking Atlantis, a giant alien future city capable of interstellar flight and yet its basically fucking empty (aside from a few plebs) and you never really see any of it - just the same generic hallways and computer lab rooms. And when they go off world, every fucking time, it's just some forest + middle age village. Then some Rape show up and do fuck all besides get shot by SHEPERDDDDDs machine gun and toughguy Samoan faggots OP laser gun. Tayla and her boring 'muh people' shtick is boring, no one cares about that. Rodney is the only character with any depth and yet he's an antisocial asshole. Everyone else is utterly fucking forgettable too.

It actually really makes me appreciate how good SG1 was in comparison.

Missed opportunities is indeed the best way to describe Atlantis.
Sadly, SGU was starting to get pretty damn good when it got the axe. Plus, it had (pic related)
Sigh

>Dr.Who and Star Trek have generals all day
>Lot of Soy Wars threads
>The old Stargate threads are rare.
Reddit really killed this board

It's only because Stargate is already so close to perfection. It's aged remarkably well and there isn't much to nitpick or poke fun at. Another thing you'll notice too is that it's "EU" isn't as pervasive as either Wars or Trek. I'm sure one or two of us have read the comics or novels, but it's rarely, if ever, brought up. It's because most of the things we wanted we got out of the shows already. It's a good thing.

Literally, when I was 13 years old and used the internet for the first time, I used it to discuss Stargate with 30-year-old men.
Stargate is my passion for decades. Impossible that Sup Forums does not have several anons willing to discuss episodes and theories!

The only theory I have that I haven't really shared is that I think Michael Shanks is a huge slut in real life so the real reason Daniel hardly ever hooked up in the show wasn't because Daniel was still married to Sha're but because they didn't want to put Shanks (who was married irl to Sha're's actress no less) in compromising positions with hot young canadian actresses and potentially lose Shanks and his hot nerdy appeal.

He's a hypocrite irl and a piece of shit, that makes sense.

Jack, may I share something with you? A vision I had in my sleep last night — distinguished from a dream which is mere sorting and cataloging of the day's events by the subconscious. This was a vision, fresh and clear as an event horizon — the mind revealing itself to itself. In my vision, I was on the deck of a vast starship, a bridge of some fantastic proportion. There seemed to emanate from it a light from within — this gleaming radiant trinium. I had known this ship. It had in fact been named after me. This was my first return, a reunion with the deepest wellsprings of my being. Wandering about, I was happy that the ship had been immaculately maintained. There had been added a number of additional decks, but in a way it blended so seamlessly with the original construction, one would never detect any difference. Returning to the ship's bridge, there came a knock at the hatch. You and Sam were standing there. you were both happy and care-free together, clearly living a life of deep harmony and joy. We embraced — a warm and loving embrace, nothing withheld. We were in this moment one. My vision ended. I awoke with a tremendous feeling of optimism and confidence in you and Sam, and your future. That was my vision; it was of you. I'm so glad to have had this opportunity to share it with you. I wish you nothing but the very best, always.

While I agree, I think there's plenty of shitposting (and discussion) that could be had, even for something so well done and loved. I just wanna talk about Stargate, damnit.

Time to die, Jack

Is this an episode where a submachine gun will easily penetrate gould armour, or one where a proper assault rifle is largely ineffective?

>it's a gate malfunction episode

Big SG fan here, and a Sup Forums oldfag but I rarely post anymore.

idk, I grew up with stargate and I can talk about it all day but I just can't be bothered posting on image boards anymore.

Also SG1 is dead careers general I suppose. Rip.

The Goa'uld had special P'laut armor that was especially effective against any projectile weapons. They just were bad at remembering to wear it every now and then.

this creature, the crystal skull aliens and a handful of others deserved more depth.

For shame it never happened.

I feel ya. Thanks for contributing to this one.
Guess I've been feeling a bit nostalgic lately and those words from Hurt hit me like a freight train the other day...

"Everyone I know, goes away, in the end"

I dunno... I figured maybe pretending like it's 1997 again might ease the feels a bit

Slipspace rupture detected

Yes. There was SO MANY things that could be expanded on in the SG universe.
Instead of any of that, we're gonna get a prequel that shits on all that's been established so that they can showcase a strong woman takin care of bidness in the 40's.

Yes... Inventions to fight the goa'uld.

I can deal with this

So, are you saying that the Goa'uld were a stand-in for the Jews?

I agree with you. Producers hated the city of Atlantis and wanted to do Stargate-SG2 instead. Always wonder why.

I remember randomly getting my brother's DVD collection of the first 5-6 SG1 seasons. I freaking loved listening to the commentary for all the different episodes, hearing about all the shenanigans people got up to behind the scenes. Stuff like that one director who would hide pineapples in the episodes he'd direct. It really seemed like the whole crew was pretty chill.

Do you not remember the episode with the dying old man? Where they switched bodies around.

Let's see:

Build more shiny elaborate Atlantis sets for mucho bucks

Re-arrange the components and maybe slap some paint on the medieval village set we've used 150x before

That first season was great though. They should've drawn out the stranded storyline for at least another season.

I really liked that show she did 'Sanctuary' where she actually co produced it. She looked great with dark hair too.

I rewatched all of Atlantis just last year and I have to admit that the only thing that kept me going was Rodney. By and large, the Wraith were just boring as villains. The Asurans(?) were a little better but still pretty bland. I could probably count the episodes I really enjoyed on one hand, and that'd be counting Under Pressure twice.

Goa'uld are kikes from the outer space

Man when he started doing the half romance with Claudia Black you could see his irl wife in the background scalding.

>It's a clip show!

OPEN THE IRIS YOU FUCKS

I'm not even gonna get dressed for this one then

Nice.

...

>that tan

Black Hole sun... won't you come?...

I know, right?

And its that attitude that failed the series. You're shown through CG wide shots that its a 'big city looking thing' but its not enough to make you FEEL like they are there.

A couple of great contrasting examples are DS9 and Babylon 5. On those shows you really get a sense of the environmemt. You can feel the atmosphere of the place because you are given climpses into different areas and its inhabitants with the day to day workings and happenings of such a place.

Its a shame Atlantis didn't go the extra mile because it would have made it amazing.

When I was a kid there was a phone competition where you could win a stereo cd radio or some shit,

Can't remember the question, but the answer was either O'Neill or Jack O'Neill.
I had my mom call them with the answer.

This copy pasta makes me sad. I loved Don Davis, he was a lovely man.

IN THE MIDDLE OF MY BACKSWING?

Our tax dollars at work

As much as I love the episode, it's pretty much a meme to bring it up every fucking time.

Agreed, user. Never seemed right after he was gone.

So who were the Furlings?

I'm hoping Crystal Skull aliens desu

I fapped to her nude scene in that shitty Masters of Horror show so many times.

she really has amazing tits.

It's ridiculous to have her in the show though.

Every time she stood in attention those cannons could poke out an eye.

Why?

It would make sense to flesh out things that have been established instead of throwing more stuff in the mix.

Crystal Skull aliens were powerful, been to Earth... Interacted with humans. They fit the bill to be one of the 4 Great Races.

so based xeno purging Carter - mary sue or nay?

in later seasons yes but not as much as Jackson. It's not like anyone was watching Stargate for its grounded world building or believable characters anyway.

Guess I'm a fan of ridiculous then

This.

If you watch Stargate and complain about mary sues or unbelievable settings then you were born after 1995 or only started watching TV in 2006

He was talking about lt. hooters

I grew up in the 80's, watching all the schlock on TV that comes with that... and Daniel reached levels that seemed silly even to me

OH...I'm OK with her ;)

My parents loved this show. Over the holidays I visited home and my mom was marathoning this show. Caught a few episodes. About to find all the episodes and start watching the series. Pretty funny show. My mom is a huge fan of the one with Dom Delouise. Was pretty damn funny. That dude is hilarious.

You age user?

yeah my mum was a massive fan of stargate as well, i used to watch it on Channel 4 during the school holidays. I remember sitting down on a weeknight to watch the pilot of Universe together.

The show is a love letter to old scifi geeks. Is it that surprising?

I'm 28.

My parents are huge Trek fans as well. They're big into sci-fi.

your dad hit the jackpot. Can't get my wife into Star Trek, she can tolerate SG and Farscape but not ST.

Did you know that his son, Peter DeLuise directed 57 episodes of Stargate SG-1?

don't forget to mention his other son dicked samantha carter for a handful of episodes

Farscape is better than ST anyway.

I don't like to think about that

not the point though.

...

Well, at least your wife gives excellent head

Tapping looks good that way.

What was her reaction to Universe?

we were both a bit disapointed with it. In the UK premier you had a clip of Robert Carlyle monotmously telling you how proud he was of it before it started and after each advert break which threw up a few "this is gonna be bad" red flags.

I need to re-watch it, i never did finish it.

The same
Farscape is better than Atlantis and Universe, but not SG1

Carlyle did a good job potraying Rush but a poor job marketing the show.

I remember an interview with a talkshow and the host kept going on about how they took the stargate through time and Carlyle just nodded along, not giving a fuck.

Doesn't surprise me. Saw him at one of those conventions and he seemed like a massive douche.

Never been to a convention since. I don't want an actor's personality tainting my perception of their character, as messed up as that sounds

What are you talking about? The guy is a charmer

Lol, he's like the lefty version of James Woods.

>self riotous

had me in stitches. Thanks user

SIR, THE SIZE READINGS ARE OFF THE CHARTS

>self riotous
Imagining one guy tearing up a city block, turning over cars, breaking store windows and stealing TVs

Yea, honestly he really did. My mom is awesome. They're biggest fans of the OG Star Trek, but watched a lot of TNG also. That was mainly what I grew up on.

I did indeed, my mom brought that up to me. He also makes some cameos in a few episodes, including the one with his dad in it. Dom changes shapes and ages in order to try and be more appealing to the crew, and one of the people he changes into is actually his son. Kinda neat.

For whatever reason, I'm actually more into fantasty, but I do enjoy sci-fi as well.

mumma

I just flew here from the other side of the galaxy and boy am I Thor

*SIGH*

yeah, they just got lazy after the first season and just made SG1 2.0. I still loved atlantis but they barely went in depth in exploring the ancient.
The writers seems to have forgotten that the original purpose of the expedition was to explore and discover ancient culture and technology.
Fun fact: after watching SGU and Dark matter, it looks like they recycled some of the sets of the Destiny for the Raza

Bought the sets off of ebay

Good for him. The guy earned his R&R.

Yep. Was and still is my damn hero.

Kek. This must be why his wife went on to play Dr Lam. She was there to keep her husband in check

Dr Lam was hot af though

Probably, but Joseph Mallozzi may have pulled some strings. He was involved in both stargate and dark matter

Oh yeah

I thought David Blue has most of the sets.
