reposting this

So much for the new pic lol

Well there it goes the new cool pic they did last thread

Basically done
Also! I just realized that all my fonts were wiped after my hard drive died, and I can't be bothered right now to find it, is this stock CSP font look alright?

it looks fine, but it's...... not very comic-y. Got any sans-serif fonts in the default ones?

these are the fonts that fits that description

Ooh I like all of those, in increasing order. I have reccommended gill sans in these threads before, but it PARTICULARLY suits your art style

how's this?
Doesn't look half bad actually

love it. i've loved that font ever since pokemon cards and i love it now

Finished my pic from the other thread. It turned out okay. I'm happy with the way the character turned out but the BG was still lackluster (which my goal was to not make it that...) at least I didn't do all white like usual.

this is completely fucking awesome

Speaking of all white, I finished this one today too. Although this was more the result of my wanting to just draw a finalized version of some concept art.

I did learn how to do text outline in Manga Studio which is the super exciting (for me, since I've lamented not being able to do that for years.)

New Pic is for Losers. Old pic is safe and familiar.

I seriously love your stuff, I'd offer critique but fankly I'm not good enough to. You got any inking tips?

amazing, rest of you retards need to erase whatever you're planning to post and redraw it before you embarrass yourself

>erase whatever you're planning to post and redraw it before you embarrass yourself

I'm still learning myself. The best thing I can tell you is practice line weight variation. It can be very subtle but a thin line in the right place as opposed to a thick one can make a world of difference (and vise versa.)

kill yourself

Mfw I pretend I can draw

>rest of you retards need to erase whatever you're planning to post and redraw it before you embarrass yourself

>2480x3508
>3.34 MB

Not before you erase yourself.

The box is unnecessary, especially with ramming into your otherwise great composition and the gradient that feels a bit tacky. Your lines have that moebius-like feeling can be confident without such obvious digital effects. People use it to add "pop" to art that isnt so good otherwise so I automatically get such connotations.

bump

>If you're going to make a thread do it right
>Doesn't include the HYW acronym in the title so that it doesn't pop up in search
Come on, man.

Thank you my man. I'll try to rework these poses.
As for Ezekihell's expression, it's more apathetic than anything. He's passionate about music and his friend harry, while a good singer, is not really a competent musician. The joke is that he sometimes play the bass parts on the studio releases. So Ezekihell's more like in a "serious mode" all the time.
Oh and Marie's short and fat. So yeah, that's why i draw her that way, but thanks for the body construction advices.

Also, reposting my shit. I just woke up so i'm not going to post the changes yet

Harry's girlfriend is the owner of a popular bar in paris. They got disposable income, man.

tapas.io/episode/709850

forgot link for my comic. I am stupid.

This is /hyw/ #373.

maybe it's time we lost count. Who care what thread number it is.

reworked the poses for ophélie and rachel.
I'm better at drawing when i wake up, man. That's good.

Not sure if this scene reads quite well so far, am I jumping around with shots too much?

...

I considered putting more on this page, but however I cut the scene up the page-by-page pacing felt awkward I decided giving the titular character a whole page to herself might be appropriate

It reads well. You got two characters well established here so it's not a problem. You don't go all random with your scenes so it's okay. I'd be unreadable if you put establishing shots everywhere like some people do on their comic. When i draw a comic, i think of it like a movie, i establish the scene, then I see where i can place my virtual camera to work on the scene i'm writing. I really try to think like a film maker since this is the only way to do it for me easily.

bottomline, it's all good. And i like the scientist girl. It seems it's going to a place that's more lighthearted dark humor than fucking depressing dark so it's alright in my book

I'm currently writing 2 comics, a one shot porno comic about pirates, and a long term fantasy comic. I've run into a little bit of a problem that I feel like I can really expand on. I accidentally made my "villain" a villain of because the plot says so rather than a real villain.

So, what I mean by this is; he's an honest to god good military cop who just wants what's best for the Empire. He doesn't drink, smoke, or really have a family (I honestly think writing him I made him asexual on accident) except for his father, the leader of the Grand inquisition, who would physically and emotionally abuse him and even go so far as to whip him with a cat-o-nine for stepping out of line. Because of this, he's stern and hard on the outside, but has a real enjoyment for childish and whimsical things like candy, toys like dolls and wooden trains and specific pancakes (Purple Bunny Rabbit Pancakes), however he feels like he can never really enjoy these things because of his position and rank, and because of his father. So he's an adult with the authority of a captain, but the brains and ideology of a child, believing in ideas of chivalry and honor. So, I guess the real question is, what now? Should I make him the main character or should I change him? And if so how?

Since when is this a competition? Fuck off

In the very beginning stages of doing a new draft of a script about coming of age and people's relationshsips with holidays during the turn of the millennium. Hoping it'll actually work out this time.

sounds boring already

I just keep drawing sketches and I'm happy

Side character: His name is Smoke

The basic idea of my comic is like Naruto during the chunin exams, kids have to fight/do missions and stuff to get grades etc.

This guy looks pretty cool, I love his design. I've only watched a bit of Naruto but your idea sounds pretty cool. Can't wait to see more.

I have a question for the thread, is it possible to be your own critique? I know its better to share stuff with people for critique, but I don't really know anyone I can share stuff with. Plus I'm not sure about posting stuff online.

From my (albeit limited) knowledge and experience, it's not a good idea to be your own critic.
You'll either be too lenient on yourself, settling for mediocre even though you can do much better. OR too harsh, not looking at the things you did well, so you can keep them.

Reminds me of Boku no Hero Academia with the forearms. I'd like to see a western take on the premise of young super heroes going to actual super hero schools.

We had one of those, and it was criminally underrated

Aren't there several but a lot of them just don't get talked about due to obscurity or being terrible. It certainly doesn't seem like a totally ignored subgenre. Between tons of creators growing up with Potter and superheroes there's likely a whole bunch of comics and stories that aren't well known due to lack of proper promotion.

I forgot about Sky High. Damn its been a long time.

that movie was l i t

I had the really autistic idea to try making a comic about wild pokemon trying to survive. I don't want the pokemon to have internal dialogue or speak in pokemon language. They'd just say their names and use body language. I really don't think that a comic with little to no speech would be very engaging, though.

>I really don't think that a comic with little to no speech would be very engaging, though.
You poor, ignorant fool.

You were right user. It does look better without the box.

When do you have to worry about your work being too similar to another story?

I'm going to make a comic about a big guy and small girl talking about videogames and it will be a success!

Never. Your execution will probably not even resemble that other story's unless you're straight stealing imagery from it. Even accidentally stumbling on the same character archetypes and story beats can yield wildly different results that appeal to totally different people.

You should be able to criticize your own work, it's part of improving as an artist/writer. As you learn more about your medium, you'll be better able to notice what doesn't work well in a picture/story as you make it, and you'll make changes accordingly. Still, you'll never be able to catch everything, especially if you're still learning, so getting critique from others is also helpful.

the acronym has never been legitimate
though it doesnt hurt anything

Yeah I agree, you should be able to learn from your own mistakes, I just wish I knew some writing group I could go to, I was a part of one, but the leader stepped down and no one wanted to replace them, so the group stopped.

ahem, I made this page this mourning in hopes of becoming the new paid artist for moonlit brew, I made this page in less than 2 hours start to finish in my own weeb style which you can see me struggling to come up with in this video where i recorded myself messing up over and over again in the beggining because I forgot how to anime and manga and it took me a whole second to channel my inner weeb: youtube.com/watch?v=IXCOmHPB6io&feature=youtu.be

im pretty proud of the page art but I dont like the way my word balloons turned out and need to re-do them, I tried to do the same word balloons I did for my FATES CHAOS project and it doesn't look right for the weaboo style i came up with to mirror the original artist take on the... manga? webcomic? ...manga webcomic? does this actually belong on Sup Forums now that i think about it?

Welp, I know how I'm spending my afternoon

there's nothing wrong with a sympathetic villain. The important thing is that he opposes the main character. The protagonist can totally be morally inferior to the antagonist, i mean everyone loves watching Zenigata fail to catch Lupin

So in other words the GOOD part of Naruto. Cool man

Do we do writer/artist meet ups in this thread or does that go in another general?

You can try to do that here, I don't know of any other place to do that

You can post here. Just the other day I saw a "Work on your writing thread" around here, which I think would also be an appropriate place to post.
Do you have a sample of your work up anywhere?
I'm mostly an artist, but I would also like to do a little writing and vice versa if I had to work with a writer.

I don't have any work posted but I put my e-mail in the name field. I'd be happy to exchange samples.

Shame mystery train ain't getting greenlit.

You know Sup Forums is gonna call you a faggot and send you back here.

The only time non-nips are respected by Sup Forums are those who made it into the anime industry.

Such as Shindol himself (A New Yorker) and a Brazilian man who draws Shoujo shit.

bump

Pipsqk,
You should redraw tails gets trolled as your comic practice.
You'd be to lazerbot like murata is to ONE

you guys having artblocks?

No, I'm just grinding out page sketches right now

nah just sudden commissions

quick fix... i can do way better word balloons than this... but i really need to do the next page of FATES CHAOS first then I will fix these word balloons. ^^

this could be godlike

Does this character look "cute"?

With a bit of work, I maybe can fap to this.

Kinda, more creepy cute than anything. Adding some eyebrows could go a long way

I personally feel as if she goes beyond the yandere aesthetic and heading for the psychotic range.
I guess it's the fact that it looks like she's almost biting her lip while at the same time smiling. Looks kinda creepy.

posting my comic.

cute but some of the lines cross into other characters and objects and need to be cleaned up

not very, mainly due to lack of eyebrows and small pupils. if the features were more delicate though, it's possible.. cuteness could be attained.

how can you tell if you're going to make it or not? when is this going to pay off?

Yes.

Looks like someone who has a gentle soul, but has suffered a lot (Is his/her nose cut off?) and/or has some beastly features.

Ideally, you're not supposed to care if you make it or if it will pay off. You should only care because its a story or gag you want to make.

That being said, I also worry the same thing, because I have huge plans for what im working on.

This. do it for you. all successful things are done that way

Once drawing itself becomes its own reward.

>I have huge plans
What are they guys? Putting it out there makes it feel more real. Someday I want to have a sort of studio suite where I can work on my comic and other artists are just rooms down. Eating lunch together and discussing ideas, sometimes we'd be missing a few people because they're pushing deadlines. I can imagine staying there all day.

Can you just self-publish an issue and sell them at cons or should you have an avid online following beforehand?

>tfw art school was just like that.
I almost wish I didnt graduate the other day, because now we're all going our separate ways.

Anyways my plans are to gain such a huge following I could pitch it as a short tv series or video game. Mostly video game because I've had this idea since middle school

The right arm/shoulder looks just a bit off, like it's coming out of the center of her back. Maybe twist the back/breast a bit more to fix.

Thank you user.

Wayward Vagabond is that you?

it kinda depends on the con. there are some where people happily go around buying all kinds of sight-unseen comics, but most of the time you need some fame

Hello there fellow anons. You guys seem to have more experience on this so I wanted to ask you about hosting comics.

What do you think is a good option or what are the pros and cons? Like I know you can pretty much selfplublish with your own website or with tumblr, but there is also tapastic and webtoons and similar. What are your opinions?

I still support the free comic hosting sites meant for hosting comics.
