If he's the best film criticism is dead. He's one step above "annoying film buff coworker."

>*blocks your path*

he's a hack. did you see his the last just review?

Why would I spend time listening to a critic instead of a creator. Even a bad movie is more entertaining than reading/listening to an essay about a movie.

hes very hit or miss

he hates star wars so of course he’d like TLJ

>he said my favourite movie was poopy

cry more

He's directed several documentaries. Written several thesis' on film. Been a critic for nearly 30 years for renowned British publications.

He's by far and away the most renowned critic in the UK. Arguably, worldwide, now Ebert is dead. He's one of the few that actually has the track record to talk about cinema.

Idk who that guy is, or any of them. I watch movies senpai

He barely shows learning in his reviews though. I am ready to imagine that he's intentionally dumbing things down for accessibility.

Jonathan Rosenbaum

excuse you

Roeper is still more relevant to Americans

>i watch movies

yeah well i watch cinema

I'd rather read/listen to Kim Newman talk shit about terrible horror movies.

He does nothing to convince me he's the best

The biggest dissapointment for me was when I found out he actually liked Baby Driver. What a literal faggot

>watches hundreds of movies a year
>taught by Andrew Sarris and beloved by Pauline Kael
>not afraid to go against the grain and be an individual thinker
>reviews actually look at the artistry and themes behind a movie rather than a bland plot summary
>reviews written in complicated prose brainlets can't understand
>genuinely helpful, always recommends better films to watch in his negative reviews

Armond White is literally the only good critic alive.

Yeah, we (euros) tend not to take Americans seriously when it comes to cinema. At least in terms of scholarly film critique.

Excuse yourself.

why was it "too reddit" for you? you are the definition of a faggot

Based Jimmy has the best Baby Driver review.

His Boyhood review is very cringeworthy. I lost all respected for him as a serious critic for praising that piece of garbage.

Well yeah he's broadcasting to a national radio audience of plebs. Part of his appeal is that he's an educated critic not above talking about film in an accessible way.

>reviews actually look at the artistry and themes behind a movie rather than a bland plot summary
He almost never talks about the film at all, at most he briefly touches upon a single narrative theme and then goes the same old "obama/post 911 america" bullshit time and time again.
He talks more about the directors political views than the films themselves

that's all well and good, but I experience kinographies

Because it's a pretty badly overwritten cliche filled generic mess that goes on for 30 minutes too long.

The only thing that was original about the film is the tinnitus gimmick and even that is handled completely wrong.
No one with actual tinnitus would wear earbud headphones 24/7, that would only make your tinnitus even worse in the long run. And the EEEEEEEE sound of tinnitus is not so fucking loud that you have to blast music not to hear it, a sound of a running engine or even just a busy street is more than enough to block it.

And the entire third act is a complete shitshow.
Jon Hamm has a "finale" fight with Baby literally THREE times, absolutely absurd and ridiculous. The diner girl seeing people being murdered left and right and she's still with the guy who she met a week ago. Kevin Spacey doing an 180 on his entire character just because he sees the girl and suddenly giving his life for Baby and his girl, even though he was ready to kill him and his family seconds ago just to get some more money.. Constant cheesy lines left and right. Absolutely cliche ending scene.
And this is all just in the last 30 minutes, still baffled by the critical praise, and even more baffled that Armond liked it at all.

>2 minutes in
>"HOLLYWOOD DO THIS THING RIGHT WHERE THEY MAKE THEIR CHARACTERS INTERESTING, LOL HOW STUPID"

stopped listening there

>Kevin Spacey doing an 180 on his entire character

I'll give you that

he's way too touchy about gender stuff and can be overly praiseworthy for anything films that can be interpreted as being sympathetic to communism

Art, especially a popular art like cinema, is political whether you like it or not, and a movie's political themes need to be dealt with if you take the medium seriously.

Toni Erdmann was 2016

that haircut and those glasses tell you everything you need to know. you don't really have to listen to any of it because you know exactly what he is going to say

the moment he liked the last jedi.
truly a genious and a conoisseur of fine film.

He's smart and knows his shit, so it's nice to hear him discuss a film's objective qualities and explain their worth.
It was great in the 90s/early 2000s when Film4 was launched, but floundered, and Channel 4 showed movies you wouldn't normally get on terrestrial telly in order to drum up customers and Kermode recorded interesting intro pieces for them.
I still associate films such as Battle Royale, L'appartement, Hard Boiled, Braindead, and Evil Dead 2, with those intros.

He goes by UK cinema release dates.

Only pseuds like him.

>meme country
His list becomes instantly irrelevant.

Now this is autism

are you saying this is good or bad?

Legit would pay to watch these two debate Snyders DC films
