it was the Final Cut and also for this thread just forget the sequel I haven't seen that either and I just didn't get it.
The atmosphere was generally good (allowing for how it's aged), the music and tone was nicely done, and I found the tears in the rain monologue moving. But what else is this film supposed to offer? The story seemed incoherent at times, for the most part I wasn't invested in any of the characters, the action was lacking.
My biggest disappoint is how disappointing it was. I was really looking forward to watching it, I'm into scifi, Scott's films, all the things that were influenced by it. What am I missing?
Am I not patrician enough?

Watch again in a year or two. The film is fundamentally about the atmosphere, setting and Rutger Hower, but you appreciate those things upon rewatching to the point that they alone render it kino.
Chase Rodriguez
If you don't feel invested in the characters, that's really your only problem.

At the end the Republican guy just developed fear because a few recall they were talking about how they develop emotions and such a short lifespan so they had to give them fake memories in order to make like a cushion for them and their emotions. That is why at the end he's talking about seeing c-beams and lasers and exploding ships off the coast of Orion and all that stuff. Exit because he developed fear of dying and living only for years so that he shared his memories with Harrison Ford just because he realize that they would those moments would fade in time the way tears in the rain. That is why he saves them share us moments with Harrison Ford and then dies just saw a little bit of him survives and lives on in Harrison Ford. and then a completely unrelated story is the one with Rachel and he escapes with her because he realizes that they will be hunted

I felt the same as you until I watched the international/theatre version. The Final Cut is the best version, but the removed narration means it's not as easy to understand what's going on. Kt adds context.
I'd recommend watching one of the versions with narration in a few months time and seeing how you feel about it.
Luis Martinez
No, don't be a faggot like this user. Sit on the film, let it digest, watch it one more time if you like, just to be sure. At that point, if you don't get it without hand holding and narration, go back to Star Wars, Blade Runner is not for you.
Jason Powell
Oh, thanks, sounds like good advice given that The Final Cut is probably aimed at hardcore fans of the film maybe it wasn't the best one to watch first
Jace Brown
Oh, interesting.
Well I need to sit on it a while regardless, I can sit on the decision of which version to rewatch as well
Luis Clark
at least it had qts

Yeah some moments like Pris spasing out like a retard come off as a bit cheesy, but most certainly give it a second try. Don't force yourself, let a few months or even a year or two pass and then try again. It really is a special film, the sequel also.
Bentley Long
I guess it depends on how much of a movie buff you are. I'd still recommend narration over just "going back to star wars" though.
John Harris
Hauer. HAUER. Fucking pleb.
Angel Perry
You can sit on this dick, kiddo
Jason Sanders
>narration >sit on the film >be a movie buff Jesus Christ, is this board literal retards? I'm not even trying to be a "haha u brainlets" elitist here. How the fuck is BR hard to understand? It sounds like suggesting reading some Coelho novel with a thesaurus and companion tome. Are there really people that don't "understand" it?

What else is any film supposed to offer? It's got great atmosphere (not just for it's time), visuals, and music. The miniatures, the costumes, the props are all interesting. The characters have a depth to them, a humanity and complexity and maturity, it can be easy to forget they're characters and to think of them as real people which is due to the writing as well as the performances. It's not a 10/10 in every category and the greatest film of all time, it just offers a lot of great things packed together with care and artistry that when examined as parts or sum manages to exceed a lot of what other films/media offer, especially in the genre. So it's more about appreciating what it has than to expect something of it. That's also why I love 2049, because it doesn't try to be Blade Runner, it's instead a Blade Runner for today's age.

thank you for your sympathy

I've only seen the theatrical version and while ford's narration is fucking monotone af I still liked it.
Ryan Adams
Blade Runner (original) is vastly overrated. It's "good" because of how original it was. Remove that and it's not really that good.
