Why did they kill off this character?
Why did they kill off this character?
he's a FUCKING WHITE MALE
He's a white man and they need MaRey Sue to be the main and only good Jedi
Mark Hamil finally realized what Star Wars has become and pulled a Harrison Ford
han first movie luke second leia was gonna die third but that bitch was in a hurry there killing the past jyust like the jew kid says
He's expensive literally who's like Rey aren't
Because he was an endearing character, and that's unacceptable in SoyWars
user, he's been voicing cartoon characters for the last 30 years. I think they can afford to hire the Skeleton King from Super Robot Monkey Hyper Force: Go!
Gave himself up to the force. Can become a crazy powerful immortal ghost now.
My brother has a 10 year old daughter and her favourite character is Rey. Sorry you 30+ manchildren get your jimmies rustled.
I don't mind a Fallen Luke story, I just don't know why he fell the way he did. If a character fails, he should fail according to the nature of his character. Luke could have been naive or overly forgiving or turn a blind eye to Ben's descent, but instead he just got spooked and pulled his piece.
I'm trying not to look at this as someone who looked up to Luke growing up, I'm just trying to look at it from a storytelling perspective. And from that perspective its nonsensical.
Can't have cis white males, and we have to destroy their characters too. Too bad we can't erase the impact of white male characters entirely, if we could go back in time and redo the original Star Wars correctly we would, believe me
he actually comes back in episode 9 fin and rose collect the seven dragon balls and they bring him back to life
That would crack me right up.
>oh my god can you believe this new starwars movie? that old dude was just mansplaining at rey the whole time
They needed the old actors playing the old characters only long enough to establish that this series of films is really Star Wars
I'm sure it would, you weeaboo faggot.
Here's how it will actually go
Rey finds herself unmatched in the force, no one else can compare to her abilities, therefore former jedi wonder how anyone can be so strong in the force, to which she is directed to be, "The Women of the Force". OK
l
It just makes for easier storytelling. They're lazy. Why worry about integrating Luke and his goals into the story when you can just Force Ghost him and put Rey in the exact same position Luke once occupied?
It doesn't really make sense. They made his mistake a kind of quasi Obi-Wan one, which feels wrong to begin with, but it also paints Luke (and Leia) as being curiously unperceptive.
I kind of like the idea that Luke was struggling with depression or a feeling of powerlessness or whatever, but the way they got there doesn't make for a great story.
He was the best character in Star Wars and if you keep him around it makes you realize how shit all the new ones are.
The real answer is that they don't want anyone else pulling a Carrie Fisher and dying before their characters do.
Just another way to wedge another random reversal into the film.
>Goods only sending one ace-pilot after bads -> Reversal because bads forgot he has been competent at killing them for years and is blowing their shit up.
>Bads repel goods -> Reversal because goods manage one last bombing
>Goods seem to be doing well -> rebellion because now princess dead
>Princess dead -> reversal because now suddenly emotional dark-side ability to fly back to ship that nobody in the franchise has ever had
>Princess back in ship -> Reversal because she's OK'ed and now you have to live with incompetent boss.
>Ace-pilot has plan to fight -> incompetent boss sees it as opportunity to make employee feel small and sends ace-pilot away.
>Ship could leave -> reversal because first ship in rebellion to ever run low on fuel, and new invention because bads can track them anywhere
>...
>1000 reversals later
>...
>...
>1000 reversals later
>...
>Luke won't train noob -> reversal because sure whatever will traIn
>Will train noob -> reversal because noob spends all her time texting dreamy bad boy
>Bad boy had gone bad at school -> reversal because Luke was gonna kill him
>Luke was gonna kill him -> reversal because just wacky misunderstand that should have taken 2 minutes to explain
>Stop texting that boy because you train now -> reversal because only noob can fix dreamy bad boy
>...
>9000 reversals later
>...
>...
>9000 reversals later
>...
>Bad killing everyone easily -> reversal because incompetent boss kamakazi into bads
>Remaining heroes make it to base -> reversal because suddenly bads have mini-death-star to crack open base.
>Bads have mini-star -> reversal because heroes magically now have a whole squad of old shit-ships.
>Heroes in shit-ships making final ditch run at mini-star -> reversal because incompetence and min-star about to win anyhow.
>Mini-star about to win -> reversal because true hero about to kamakazi its ass.
>True hero about to save everyone -> reversal because heroics stopped by female and now everyone is doomed again.
>Everyone is doomed -> reversal because Luke shows up out of nowhere.
>Luke is losing the fight -> reversal because he is indestructible.
>Luke is indestructible -> reversal because he is not even here
>Luke is not even here -> reversal because dead anyhow.
Is there anyone who actually liked Luke's arc in TLJ who can tell me how they felt about it? Someone who thought it was a natural progression of the character given the circumstances?
I really don't want to hate these movies, someone please give me a straw to grasp.
I'm not sure anyone believes that. When people asked for sequels, they thought it would be Luke at his ultimate. All we got was after he had become a broken old man.
>first movie of the sequel trilogy
>kill off the beloved Han Solo
>second movie of the sequel trilogy
>kill off the beloved Luke Skywalker
>Carrie Fisher dead irl before third of sequel trilogy
>Leia dead etc etc
lol they killed off the iconic trio. bravo.
>
At least Chewbacca had 2 seconds of mourning his bff before moving on like a cat that forgot his dead owner.
Leia was gonna be their force is female postergirl.
Chewie is putting in work, though. He recognized the new protagonist right out of the gate and has been helping her out every step of the way.
It goes back to the "what does Chewie know that he's not saying" question after we learned that he met Yoda around episode III.
>He recognized the new protagonist right out of the gate
Mary Sue.
After 80 years of war, how does he have any will to live?
Ego. Kathleen Kennedy is trying to kill off all of Lucas' characters as quickly as possible so she can create a new Star Wars universe in her own image.
it doesn't make sense to spend 2/3 of a trillogy just cleaning out old characters... not to suggest anything about the 2 movies made sense.
You guys are fucking pathetic. Luke had to die so that Rey could be a New Hope while the rejuvenating Empire Strikes Back, Rey will lead the process by kick-starting the Return of the Jedi to end all Phantom Menaces, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Siths, Rogue Ones and White Males.
Because his hero's journey concluded.
Jesus, people, read some Joseph fucking Campbell. Grow up.
not an argument
For that to be an argument that should have not brought him back at all. Say he died in the 30 year gap or something. (which would also suck, granted)
If his story is over , don't make a movie about him.
Heroes have deaths, user.
I'm sorry if it made you cry, but fictional heroes have a beginning, a middle and an end. Hercules. Jesus. King Arthur. Robin Hood. Sherlock Holmes. Superman.
Sometimes their deaths get later retconned (Superman, Sherlock Holmes, Jesus), but the death is still an important part of the arc. That's why they call it an arc. It goes up then comes down.
>I'm sorry if it made you cry
It didn't though. That was part of the problem. Him actually dying felt unrelated to the plot of the movie. Everything would have been exactly the same if he didn't die.
The script needed rewriting to integrate his death into the story.
>death is still an important part of the arc
The death should fit with the rest of the Hero's Journey. Lukes entire presence in TLJ rejected his arc and his death was anticlimactic and unfitting.
Kill Luke all you want if you have to, but the way they went about it is like if Superman spent 20 years living in a cave on the moon and then willed himself to death.
It’s actually super robot monkey team hyper force go thank you very much
because they dont need him anymore.
they have new heroes that they can use to sell toys.
Nah, I kinda wouldn't have minded if Rey had shown up and he was already burnt on a pile of rocks.
His ghost is probably going to train Rey in the next installment, for at least the 30 seconds of time she needs to fill that checkbox.
>it didn't though
You're crying now, faggot.
damn...
>white
>male
cause luke isn't nigger and mary sue retton is dabes cuse grillll puwer.
No male character is allowed to be a hero. Poe saved the fleet initially by ordering the bomb run but he was made to be a fool and after being told 12 hours late what the plan was, he was just another character. Finn was going to be a tragic hero with leaving the fleet after saving them initially but after meeting rose he became a side-kick. Sacrificing himself, even if it made no difference, would've given him the martyr status but rose somehow doing a complete 180 and running into him took the spotlight.
Even Luke, who was once the angel like figure in starwars became this grump and cynical old man because he made a mistake. And when he bought time, he ended up dying on some no name planet on some fucking island.
Luke didn't have to die, but he did anyway because the force is female only now
He couldn't be of any more significance for Rey
BECAUSE PASS THE TORCH YOU FUCKING WHITE MALE
10 year olds know no better so I forgive her.
Because Disney has no idea what it's doing.
...
the story group feminists changed luke specifically so that he could not teach Rey, because she is a strong woman who will teach herself. They ruined Luke Skywalker... for that.
That's 1 second more than what Luke got for mourning Han.
BECAUSE HE SPOKE OUT AGAINST THE MOUSE
can't have cis white male mansplaning the force to stronk woman
He's still going to be a force ghost like obi wan.
Umm. Sweetie. She already did.
Our best chance now is if the Solo movie bombs so hard that Disney fires her.
I got a funny feeling that, with everything that happened, JJ is going to bring back Luke in some form. Especially when Solo bombed.
Honestly I really can't wait to see Deadpool cock blocking Solo's first week numbers.
No one wanted to see Luke "THE Hero" Skywalker a depressed wreck of a man. How is it even possible to see pic related and logically have some sort of tragedy befall these characters? It makes no sense, theres no straws to grasp, its over man.
the last white male
idk if you're posting this pic seriously, or ironically, or what, but it made me gag. Please don't
Solo is set up for failure just by premiering between blockbusters like Deadpool and Infiniy war. Both will hurt it. It's almost as if Disney wants it to fail. They did that before with Treasure Planet, just to be able to fire the team behind it.
Fingers crossed this is the same situation.
Everything would be redeemed if Episode 9 ended with a climactic fight between secret super Jedi Chewbacca vs. secret super Sith Darth Jar Jar Binks
Because wymyn don't need some old white cis male to """"teach"""" them
He didn’t though. He loves being Luke Skywalker
...
Hatred for empire-like authourities
>Luke's beard matches the pattern of the sword of the person in the mural on Ahch-To
Is Luke's beard his weapon? Is that why he force died his beard before fighting Kylo before his body died?
>Kathleen Kennedy is trying to kill off all of Lucas' characters as quickly as possible so she can create a new Star Wars universe in her own image.
Literally Yuuzhan Vong tactic.
OPTIMUS
>white male writes TLJ
>Sup Forums blames the women that work at studio for the writing
are you guys retarded?
>the women that work at the studio
>star wars story group
kys
The Rebel Alliance has been fighting the Empire for 50 years and accomplished jack shit except getting people killed, instead of spending their time feeding homeless people since that would actually make a positive difference to the galaxy. Apparently the Force is an asshole and will just bring another sith/jedi pair out of nowhere before there can be a lasting peace even if they do defeat kylo and snoke.
Luke did the most logical thing in that situation - fly to some remote planet and live on an island drinking monster titty milk and waiting for the peace of death.
There are countless of people, including here on this board, who loved the direction they took for Luke. It's because
>finally given depth
>more human
>people grow old and become shit (all of them)
>not muh space jesus
>what are you talking about, he's still a hero did you not see the dumb kids at the end
It still all dissolves around distorting the Hero who became a Paragon for cynical "depth" and money. The Hero is dead. Bury it. Consider this mercy.
>countless of people
>It still all dissolves around
>BvS quote
You mean subversions
...
Snoke can track where they are going when Leia was conscious and on the ship due to him being able to sense her presence through the force.
>Snoke
>used to defend anything
>no backstory
I don't get it.
...
They missed a huge opportunity by not writing it so that snoke was actually fucking with luke's head and turning him to the dark side without him even realizing- and not Ben.
Snoke seems to be characterized as a mind manipulator- he can read minds, obviously change weak ones, use the force over vast distances and connect two other people's minds over vast distances as well. So he could have deceived luke into believing Ben was falling to the dark side- and maybe also playing Ben at the same time. Luke, blinded by the dark side goes to kill Ben... Badda bing badda boom shit goes south and you got kylo ren.
So he can't overshadow the new characters. So in the next one we're forced to care about them and not Luke, Han and Leia.
Kylo's on the ship as well, if you dislike Snoke being able to tell where they are. Perhaps Kylo managed to maintain awareness of Leia when they first go through hyperspace and afterwards.
Am I the only one thinking that a mind manipulator as strong as Snoke is a stupid plot device. If he's so strong and so ancient why did he wait this long to surface. He could've owned the Empire if he wanted to.
here: tragedy hapened because the romantic relationship between han solo and leia was unstable, not between two people who were a great fit with each for a very long relationship, and not properly managed and developed to be long-lasting
He was too much of a best boy
they really shouldn't have waited until the very end of the second movie if they wanted to make us care more about the new people, they should've gotten rid of the old people off-screen between 6 and 7.
What i find the worst about Luke in new movie that he was in exile only 5 years according to the tie in books.
The movies make it seem like it was 10 years, but Rian apparently made it 5, how the fuck in such a short time people managed to forget about him and the jedis?
Just 5 years ago there were Jedi trainees running around, in 30 years there should be dozens trained, more?
And yet here in 5 years people forgot Luke exists, he made a 180 character turn, in his 60ties mind you when its hardest for a man to change, and everything Jedi related went into obscure myth?
Fucking movies are written like 50 years passed not 5.
Don't forget Luke suddenly becomes a mythical figure known all across the galaxy at the end of TLJ. Even slave kids know his stories for some reason.
I don't understand why the sequels suck off Luke so much as some sort of literal messiah. The only major thing Luke did for the Rebellion was blowing up the Death Star in A New Hope. He did fuck all for the Rebellion after that. Leia is more deserving of the fame. Setting him up as the vanished Space Jesus who is somehow expected to win a galactic war by himself was a colossal mistake from the beginning. The Resistance needs Wedge Antilles and Mon Mothma more than Luke.
I'm still pissed they canned that show when there was only half a season left. I WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING, REEE.
Also it's Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!
