Why then don't we create our own space fantasy adventure story?

>Why then don't we create our own space fantasy adventure story?
Because you have literally zero creativity

I would be happy with a james cameron done Flash Gordon.

admit it, he's the only one that could pull it off.

Right lets instead debate the literary merits of media franchise spin off novels and the 8th film in a series
that's more more creative

So with that settled, what sort of character is OPs picture?

What Eldrich fate has befallen this once normal ship, whose captain has travelled beyond mortal ken?

Looks like a white dude to me

its Northwest Smith, the guy they based a million badass space smugglers on.

Its captain, ageless from journeys beyond charted space, manipulation of time dilation, and liberal application of alien cybernetic techniques unknown to human science

oh shit, is that some motherfucking METABARONS? fuck yes. everyone should own a set of that series.

You're a fucking faggot and I hope you get cancer.

>why then don't we learn to not invest ourselves in fictional universes and rather try to connect with people and build better lives for ourselves and our loved ones?

more of this cool art please

Believe me, I would love to. I've spent the last 15 or so years quietly putting together a sci-fantasy story and universe in my head, complete with its own histories, religions, politics, full cast of heroes and villains, a complete beginning, middle, and end, and even a prologue arc that would then timeskip into the main story.

The only problem is that I don't know what to do with it. Realistically, the only way I'm going to get this out there is by writing a book, and trying to get it published online in some fashion or another, or make it into a comic series, and try to get it on one of the comic streaming sites. What's holding me back is that I don't feel that I'm a strong enough writer to complete a book, let alone a series of books, and I'm a shit artist, so there's no way that I'd be able to make a comic happen on my own.

His ship?

>complete with its own histories, religions, politics, full cast of heroes and villains, a complete beginning, middle, and end, and even a prologue arc that would then timeskip into the main story.

Then every author in humanity's history was autistic, I guess. I'm willing to live with that.

Write short stories
submit them to magazines and online zines
Attend clarion workshop
Write about all kinds of things
Writers don't sit on their arse for 15 years daydreaming
They write

Jim can do anything

So what goes into a good Science Fantasy/Space Opera story? I know what I personally enjoy about them and have written some ideas about those qualities but want to know what others like.

>c-can I p-play t-too, boys? :3

what do you enjoy?

Honestly, what I enjoy is space equivalents to fantasy elements. Stuff like the equivalent of magic is bio tech created by an ancient civilization. As cliche it might be in certain circumstances, I can't help but to love it. Same with analogies to greek tragedies/legends and exploring the "underground" of the setting. As cool as galactic spanning empires and ancient civilizations are, I love bounty hunters and other rogues in these settings.

>start trying to make an interesting setting filled with stuff I enjoy
>can't decide what story I would tell in it
>end up writing and drawing really shit lewds
A-all in a day's work, right?

Give us some of your ideas. There has got to be a writefag here somewhere

I was writing this story with a leviathan girl whose civilization ended up getting destroyed by an angel when God recognized their hubris/endless devouring. She is extremely envious of humans and their relative good standing, but hides it beneath constant contempt.
I tried drawing pictures, but I'm a shit artist too

I like it. I personally couldn't anything with it but would totally watch/read something with it

Thanks, user. I've been trying to make some stories, but they haven't been turning out too well. They generally follow three groups:
-Knight and witch do mercenary work together
-guy and a monster girl get together and tragedy ensues
-far in the future, an arrogant humanity literally rediscovers angels
The only thing connecting them are angels right now.

The neckbeard is incapable of ever making anything good or creative. All it can do is sit and whine while leftists and jews make their material for them

it sucks kill yourself homo

the purpose of SF is not to provide equivalents to fantasy stereotypes
>I made them anime stereotypes
and the arts okay honestly you just need to work on it and not make them animu fetishes

a group of space faring nations from different solar systems must be good for you. one day a hero named gamacis emerges from deep space one and salutes his bretheren goodbye as he must become a real pussy

I can't do that yet
Ah, I was trying to avoid that. Guess the fetishy stuff leaked into it too much. Know how I can make it less cliche?

wow this is so cool user do you have any drawings maybe of your concepts maybe

yes this is the hero named gamacis

wow gamacis really goes to show that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

What percent face is this?

>I see Sup Forums is still upset about Disney Wars and The Last Jedi
Don't project, sweetie.

roughly 45

>Know how I can make it less cliche?
write and submit and get rejections and pay attention to what they tell you in the rejections
read a wider variety of material than anime repeating the same shit again and again

I dont have 50 million dollars or Jewish relatives.

I see. Have any books you would recommend? I friend of mine said I should read Neuromancer and The Aegis, and her criticisms were similar to yours.

How much needs to be undone to pee?

if you havent read Neuromancer , get the fuck off the computer and read it now. read the whole sprawl series.

I feel there isn't enough settings that at least include one faction based on bio tech. IE: Instead of metallic space ships ran by computers, the space ships and pretty much all the technology including the armor is living and breathing. I know when I see something with it, it usually has an appeasing aesthetic to it and that's what I love the most.

Those don't fall into space opera

If you want space opera recommendations I would suggest
>Golden Age pulp magazines
Northwest Smith stories by C.L. Moore
Solar System and Eric John Stark stories by Leigh Brackett
>1960s new wave
Babel-17 and Nova by Samuel R. Delany
The Centauri Device by M. John Harrison
Dune by Frank Herbert
>contemporary
Hyperion by Dan Simmons
Revelation Space series, Revenger by Alastair Reynolds
Consider Phlebas, The Algebraist by Ian M. Banks
>comics
Flash Gordon
Copperhead
Sword of Ages

For more general SF selections have a look at Hugo and Nebula winners
check anthologies to find interesting authors to then peruse, the Gardner Dozois and William Hartwell edited books are always good
/lit/ has its science fiction & fantasy general threads which be informative but can also suck

My personal recommendation for a first time SF reader would be to have a read of Alfred Besters The Demolished Man

I definitely recommend Hyperion. Good shit. The priest's story is the best though.

So, still better than tlj?

There is you just haven't read it

I know it does exist, it's just not explored as much as I thought it would be.

Ah, I've heard of Hyperion. I should read it. What do you thinking of the Xeelee series?

whats with that gay stance

Besides this Sup Forums is more like a critics forum than a creative workshop.

But what kind of Sci-Fi setting would it be?
Would it be like Alien, Bladerunner, Fith Element, Valerian, StarTrek, Babylon5, StarWars, Dune.

Would it be mostly human, human vs Alien or Humans are rar species?

Who would be the hero, a team? What would be the background, a war, a fight vs a force of evil/entity?
Im ok with her.

I like settings where humans aren't special, they are just another species in the setting.

Ok, makes sense, it feels like Humans are normal inhabitants of that universe.

Would it be earth/sunsystem, milkyway or a different galaxies.

Bump for interest

...

i bet you write sonic fanfiction faget

If all of you are making the MC a white man ALL FO YOU ARE BEING PROBLEMATIC

STOP DOING THIS

Because Sup Forums would call it a Star Wars ripoff

Are you going to pay me money?

Then fuck off.

Gosh, user, have some faith in me not being a complete autist

If we had the creativity, talent, or work ethic needed to make a story we wouldn’t be posting on Sup Forums.

Looks like OG Battlestar Galactica.
Young Adama's adventures?

But basically, the formula is to mash up a few classic Cowboy and Samurai movies into a Space Opera setting.
The moral codes have to be that simple, so the audience can follow the story while being bombarded with new imagery and tech concepts.

The good guy and bad guy should be mirrors of each other.
Each having chosen a different path to the other, but otherwise very similar.
The resolution of the story also resolves the question of who chose the right path in life.

But The Orville is way better that STD.
I'd rather have a loving rip off than an agenda-driven subversive/destructive/hateful "legit" movie.

Remember, Star Wars started out as a Flash Gordon homage.
George wanted to capture that spirit and energy, and he did.
