Been re-watching Code Lyoko recently so how about a thread?

Code Lyoko

Even though I like this show their fucking sixheads always distract me.
I feel like this show would be better received if it aired today, you know?
I think there's a better market today for action cartoons with long form story telling, and this could really fit the bill.
What do you guys think?
when you realize they are actually the bullies to sissi
maybe, although Season 1 was really terrible on the action side of things, and it didn't really improve much until they got their upgraded Lyoko avatars
To be fair, she fucked them over the first chance she got.
She could have been a Lyoko Warrior, but nope.
>the main characters are kind of jerks sometimes
Well, they are like 12-15, pretty much anyone that age is gonna be a total dickweed
How did this shit end? I remember they saved Aelita but then they realized they couldn't shut off the Big Bad because she was still connected to it somehow. I always thought the overarching story was extremely boring and only like the episode by episode stuff, which is weird because it's normally the other way around for me.
Seems like you only finished Season 1. You gonna watch the rest or do you want me to summarize it?
Yea but it was also 2004.
Television CG has come a really long way, just look at the Lyoko scenes in Evolution.
>the characters always decide to take risky actions
>even though previous experience always shows risky actions lead to bad things
>they always get surprised when their risks lead to something bad
It makes me so mad when this happens. Especially the episode where they got stuck on the SKID.
XANA escapes Lyoko into the internet, destroys it, it gets remade, Aelita's dad returns from the Matrix (yeah, Aelita was a human the whole time), and he sacrifices himself to destroy XANA.
...
No, i won't.
Don't remind me of that live-action garbage.
I'm not sure a single fucking character in this show was likeable.
That's fair enough, user.
Even a glimpse of the LA parts is more than too much.
Someone enlarge the forehead
the only episode of this show I remember is when the bad guy possessed the girl or something and tried to fuck the nerd
...
Odd was a good dude, and Ulrich was alright.
I want to bang sissi.
Decent show and all, but WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THEIR FOREHEADS?!
>The main characters are kind of jerks sometimes...I've noticed...
They're teenagers, and really realistic teenagers at that.
That's actually a big part of why I like the show. Everything with school life felt so real. The teenagers felt like real young teenagers. The adults felt like real adults. The school felt like a real school. I really appreciate that kind of thing.
It's just an artstyle.
It's like asking why anime characters have fuckhuge eyes.
It's also a French thing
The factory was also a real factory.
And the real one.
Though it was torn down.
Huge eyes makes characters cuter. Huge foreheads makes them look grotesque.
To you, I think it looks good.
I want to cum on those 9heads
I rewatched it a few years back, and was struck by how mind numbingly repetitive it got very quickly.
XANA did nothing wrong
Same here, user.
That's really mostly Season 1.
Anyone else find this weird?
Is it different in the French version?
Did they ever comment on how freakishly tall she is?
...
No, she's a year older than them.
William is similar in height for their age.
You're going to need to be more specific than that. XANA was really DTF.
I've been rewatching it too, this week. Just finished season 1, but learned there is no resolution and lost all drive to finish it.
>but learned there is no resolution
What?
Other seasons were just as repetitive. The general pattern is the start of the season would have some shit go down, then it would go into routine, then the end of the season comes and more shit goes down. Rinse and repeat.
Something about the live action thing never finishing, and that there is a sort of ending in books.
The original show itself has a genuine ending.
The books are technically non-canon and Evolution is unnecessary and garbage enough that you should not watch it.
t. someone who cares about Code Lyoko far too much.
>Books
Eh i liked them.
If books were canon we would never get Evolution
In that case, I'll get back on it. That makes me fairly happy, actually.
I had high hopes for Evolution...I really did.
(I didn't even mind the live action)
but it was just so mediocre.
Oh, I wasn't trying to imply that the books were bad or anything, they're just not canon to the series.
I hope you have a good time, user.
Code Lyoko is ace.
...
...
Those watermarks kill it
The first season was filled to the brim with filler. Maybe if they hadn't gone that route it'd have worked better.
Are there any more?
Looks like something I'd expect from a proper MMO instead of how the initial one looked.
Better than having the entire show being episodic with no real plot.
Good cast of main characters, shit tier support characters.
>shit tier support characters
I'd rather not talk about it.
Season 4 is especially bad about that, on account of being the longest.
Sometimes I don't even give a shit about the Lyoko stuff. I just want a slice of live version of the show, that doesn't require mind numbing showdowns in a 3D world.
The Lyoko stuff did get more interesting as it went on, to be fair, but at least, now as an adult, I find a lot of it to be fast forward material. Which I suppose is kind of funny since that's literally half of the appeal of the show right there.
Nope, it looks like the guy who did them lost interest and hasn't done anymore...at least for now.
Yeah, the watermark is distracting...
...
Aren't we getting a new show in December?
...
Not that I know of, where did you hear that?
I think it's called rebirth? Its a fan thing I believe.
Ah, that's right.
There was also some other thing before Rebirth that had some of the same people working on it.
Honestly, I don't have high hopes for it.
My favorite character Odd is like the shittiest one. All he had was shitty ass laser arrows which was basically a pea shooter, and if that wasn't enough he needed an outside source to recharge his arrows.
Why did they make Odd so shitty?
He also had a shield, not that he remembered to use it often.
Still, he dated every girl in his year, barring Sissi, so I think it's okay if he doesn't have the best powers.
IIRC, he also has the highest kill-count throughout the whole show.
...
The shipping in this show was jarring at times. They tried so hard to push Yumi and Ulrich, but ultimately people liked the idea of Ulrich and Sissi, regardless of how shitty she was to them.
Aelita and Jeremy just felt bland and boring. Jeremy's voice changing and then changing back was unsettling.
>Jeremy's voice changing and then changing back was unsettling.
That was his VA trying to figure out his voice and it took a while for her to settle on something.
...
Back in 2007 it was most popular show right after Winx and 6teen here in Poland.
I still have two DVD's with 3 episodes in each.
Pretty much everyone fucked the group over at some point. Yumi often blew the secret to try to keep everyone in the real world from dying, Jeremie blew the secret to Talia because muh Aelita, Ulrich used the Return to the Past to help Yumi's family when he knew what that meant for Xana, Odd brought his girlfriend who fucked up the supercomputer (and her memory wasn't even erased), and Aelita was just a terrible liar who drew a lot of attention due to not being quiet about certain things and everytime she was OOC it seemed the school was about ready to find out her secret.
William was probably the most honest and earnest of the group but that also made him a gullible newbie brought in at the endgame and easy for XANA to take as a pawn.
That being said, probably the weirdest thing about the show, especially early on before they avoided the RTTP, was that the school either treated them (especially Jeremie) like model students one episode and threw the book at them in another for constantly misbehaving when RTTP should override any of the skipping class or diciplinary actions caused by XANA attacks. It just seemed like whatever was convenient to the plot.
I'm still waiting to find a reasonably priced American copy of the box set because they never released in my country.
I do have the 3 sets of some episodes ordered, though.
Season 1 was fine. It kept the plot paced out and made you feel like Jeremie was slowly working out a rematerialization method and growing as mission control. Plus season 1 had most of the best XANA attack ideas. Afterwards they had to frequently justify NOT returning to the past so we got animal attacks and polymorphic spectres and clones which got old fast.
FUCKING RUINED
...
So they could of just stoped Xana forever if they just turned off the computer and Lyoko. But no that fag wanted that pink haired puss. Xana changed gravity and unleased a swarm of killer bees. Man fuck you Jeremy
There's 2 fan projects and they keep getting delayed due to "unforseen circumstances" when people in the know say that basically nothing is getting done and it'll be lucky to see it by 2020 when this shit started in 2012 as one project. The people involved spend all of their time arguing and trying to sway fans to their project over the other, and shilling the projects all over youtube videos for code lyoko as the definitive and true revival of the series and downplaying that it's a shitty constantly delayed drama-filled fan project.
His voice changing was because the VA wanted to copy the french version but it came across as making Jeremie buffoonish. Once she settled on the season 3 voice as a distinct voice for him it was better and more consistent.
>implying you wouldn't do the same for this hot piece of ass
Would be less annoying if they just made her human to begin with.
Though honestly, them switching gears was more annoying. Season 2 made it obvious from the start that she was going to turn out to be human, but I wish they had stuck to making her a computer program, maybe based on Hopper's daughter, and focused on her having a connection to XANA
So we can all agree that being Yumi is suffering in this show, right?
The island is a big park nowadays. Better than some cruddy old factory in my book.
Yumi's suffering IS the show, user
I'd rather a cool, abandoned factory than some shitty park.
Parks are for children and hippies, anyway.
I'm still bothered with the inclusion of the new girl in Lyoko Evolution. So we have three geniuses instead of just two. God
Jesus Christ that's bad, who green lighted this shit
The corporation who knew that we loved Code Lyoko.
Surely we'd love it more if it was live action and had some random chick added for no reason, characters taken away, Kiwi killed and, the very worst crime, getting rid of Odd's hair
Anyone got that link for the code lyoko books
en.codelyoko.fr
Download links should be near the bottom.
Yumi is prime waifu material. All that's good about Japanese chicks without the grating character traits of Japanese chicks.
Corporate stupidity can get really annoying sometimes how hard would an animated series sequel have been anyways
Thanks user
Thanks user
No problem.
The rest of that website is great, there's tons of quality material.
You do realize that people weren't actually allowed in the factory, right? It was falling apart when it was torn down. Sure, people broke in, but it was no playground. It was dangerous in there.
Pretty much the same as Code Lyoko's factory, then.
Laura alone just ruined Evolution for me. All she did was serve as some obstacle for some shitty rivalry between her and Aelita. And just like that whole Yumi/Ulrich/Sissi/William nightmare, it's total bullshit. And you know what the worst part about it is?
There already kinda is an obstacle between Jeremy and Aelita's relationship: XANA. Think about it, Jeremy's so obsessed with figuring out a way to get rid of XANA that he basically has no time for anything else, including spending time with his waifu that he spent an eternity bringing to Earth; it's never brought up, and the worst part is they have very little control over it. Seriously, all that time he spent getting her to Earth and it amounts to that.
And least resort to a bit of hand-holding, geez
The animation for this always put me off

Sissi > Yumi
