I don't understand the hate that people seem to have for characters like Superman or All-Might? I believe such characters to have certain sense of romance (as in glamour or excitement) about them.
I don't understand the hate that people seem to have for characters like Superman or All-Might...
People still like Superman. The $128 million opening weekend for Man of Steel proved that. It just was a divisive film unfortunately.
Superman hasn't had a good film in almost 4 decades. Whereas Batman has had a lot of good films, tv shows and games, because he's easier to write for. Once WB stops dicking around and gets the right person to make a Superman movie, things will get much better.
I have never seem nothing but good things about All Might.
People who hate Superman tend to be horrible people
BvS was a good Superman movie.
Or have zero imagination.
> but if he's so strong how to you tell a story?
etc.
yeah there is some truth to that sadly
>because he's easier to write for.
I still wonder how can this be? Who the hell lacks the imagination to write a fantasy scify superhero?
I wouldn't go that far. From what I've seen people who hate Superman just haven't read any of his comics. They see pages posted online or they play Injustice and they think they know everything about him and move on. It's sad.
And it kind of connects to All Might is a similar character to Superman but people tend to like him more and say he is superior or "Superman done right". But that's because My Hero Academia is still young so they can read/watch it and get his character easily. Superman has a lot of history so people just don't bother.
Who hates All-Might? Tell me their name!
good point
Capitalism isn't a crime.
Those out of context pictures and "facts" posted online are the worst kind of cancer. Sometimes I read the comments on those and man, it's can get you mad
>"facts" posted online
Fuck every one of those Top 10 Facts You Didn't Know About ____ sites
i'll be watching you luthor......
Yeah same. Someone posted those pages from Injustice of Superman and Flash talking about gun control or whatever, and one of the comments was like "See? This here is exactly why I hate Superman. He's controlling and too serious blah blah blah..."
I guess it's the smug self-satisfaction that makes me so angry lol.
oh fuck really dear god
because they're edgy and want "ugh serious realistic gritty heroes"
...
The only people who actively dislike Supes are weeaboo powerlevel fags. Most people are neutral towards the character at worst. You won't keet many hardcore fanboys too often but like said people don't object to watching something starring him if it's decent
*meet many hardcore fanboys
>Hating the symbol of peace
Anyone who hates a guy who only has powers for a couple hours a day and uses it immediately for even small issues is incredibly selfless, maybe not the best use of powers but goddamn uses them to defend others from any injustice.
Superman is great, it's Superman fans that are awful.
This.
A lot of people seem to think characters have to be deeply flawed and "relatable". See people who praise the New 52 Amazons.
I don't get why they can't just leave characters like Superman and Wonder Woman alone. Let them be optimistic and hopeful characters. If you don't like that, just say you don't like the characters and leave it at that, you're free to go read characters that are realistic or cynical.
The problem with DCEU Supes is he's rooted in the 90's Superman who was made more morally complex, and everyone got completely sick of that ten years ago.
Because of lack of education on philosophy. The only thing people know about philosophy is Nietzche or Rand.
They don't know anything about Camus and Absurdism. Which is what I assume Superman is.
really? i thought nietzche had whole Übermensch
thing going on....
One of the only characters in fiction that is actually morally perfect and flawless is Galahad, and that is specifically why do many people hate him. Golden Age Superman could have a short temper and intimidated people. Silver Age Superman loved fucking with people for kicks. Bronze Age Superman was actually Clark Kent underneath it all. Where and when does your idea of Superman being the morally perfect "boy scout" actually come from, and why does this image outrank the actual media? Or is it all just based on Kingdom Come and ASS telling you he should be perfect?
>it's Superman fans that are awful.
I think you mean Batman fans. Let's not forget that Kate Leth is among those Batman fans.
What the fuck kind of answer is this? You are one fucked up aspie.
Let's be honest, ALL fans can be pretty shitty.
Supes is pretty far from being a Übermensch.
I highly doubt that Nietzsche would like the idea of the DC Superman. Keep in mind, Neitzche Übermensch over come his human burdens to become greater, Superman is simply given his powers because he's alien.
Lex Luther is more of a Übermensch then Cal-El is.
It's a opinionated answer?
People are such downers now-a days and I think it's because of the lack of philosophical principles being taught early on in life.
No, I said exactly what I meant. It's funny that you bring up Leth, since she's a great example. One of her most ridiculous statements was "I'm a huge Batman fan, I don't read Batman" with the justification that her mental fancanon Batman was much better than what was written. But that applies equally to Sup Forums Superman fans whose knowledge of the character begins and ends with Morrison interviews.
ok that makes sense
I really love Superman, but the story I like are not so many. I find that a lot of screenwriters fail to handle Superman in his regular comics.
Right now I'm fine with Tomasi, because I love the interactions between Supes and Jon. It's as if Superman had grown up at last.
The point is, although I'm not buy everything about Superman, I think it's a great character.
Ad Birthright is my favorite Origin story.
Honestly, comics are among the shittier aspects of media that feature Batman, and the Big 2 is a joke that doesn't deserve to be paid for most of their comics.
You can perfectly like the character and don't give a fuck for the comics. He is way bigger than them.
I enjoy him in a casual way not like filthy casuals, but I'll read a book here and there,
but he's not one of my favourites and it still aggravates me to no end with people who shit on Supes because "hes 2 stronk", "he got 2 many powers" and that sort of shit.
It's like people who think Law & Order SVU is shit because how many ways can you REALLY rape someone before it gets old?
It's because BNHA is easier to consume. It's a TV series. People don't read comics, they're a niche medium. Videogames are a massive medium and that's why shit like Injustice is poison for the character in pop culture, because it's a version everyone is exposed to. He hasn't had a really good movie in ages so where the fuck are people going to know the real Superman? He hasn't exactly been in the spotlight of pop culture since forever.
>Rooted in 90s Superman
Please, 90s Superman was a true symbol of hope compared to the pale caricature that is DCEU Superman.
Thank you so much for retelling me everything I said but longer.
Personally I like the character, but that doesn't mean shit. I've seen TONS of horrible people who like Superman.
I didn't say exactly what you did, I said WHY the thing you're saying happens. We can't expect people to read comics, so it's an adaptation's job to make the character known. Unfortunately, Injustice doesn't feature the real Superman, the movies are shit and that's everything the modern masses known about the character.
Yeah I said literally all of that I just didn't go into detail.
All this thread is making me want to do is post Superman. I'm sorry but I'm commandeering this thread (at least for 22 pages).
Jeff Parker and Chris Samnee mead on ongoing stat.
...
Meh, boring goody-two-shoes. At least give me an imperfect hero like Invincible.
I love everything about this page.

...
I love that before he even considers throwing a punch, he attempts to talk him down.
Superman makes me feel hopeful and ashamed of myself at the same time.
I really like him.
This art is something else. Shame we're never going to get this creative team on a mainline title.
>I'd give them "Action Comics" just because Tomasi has been killing it on the main title "Superman" rand while Jurgens is good, I think Parker would be better.
HA!
I always thought he was boring as hell as a kid, it's only after I've gotten some real life experience that I realize that SUperman is probably one of the greatest superheroes ever created. He has all of these incredible abilities and instead of using them for selfish gain, he dedicates his life to saving others and making the world a better place.
Adventures of Superman by Casey is a lifechanging Superman arc. It's a series where he goes up against threads the likes of which the world has never seen and he does it all without throwing a single punch.
...
My god do I love this page.

Superman as being thoroughly satisfied with his life as a husband and a father, horrible dad jokes and all, really makes me happy. It's like he's being allowed to get what he always wanted, and it's okay because all he always wanted was to find what his parents had found with each other and with him when he came along. He loves sharing everything with his son, big or little. He loves that Lois can still put him in his place, and has total influence over him even though she has literally no power over him.
I hope this status stays the quo for a while to come.

>I wouldn't go that far. From what I've seen people who hate Superman just haven't read any of his comics. They see pages posted online or they play Injustice and they think they know everything about him and move on. It's sad.
You say people don't read comics. You didn't say why.
>All Might is a similar character to Superman but people tend to like him more and say he is superior or "Superman done right". But that's because My Hero Academia is still young so they can read/watch it and get his character easily. Superman has a lot of history so people just don't bother.
You said BNHA is popular because it's young, not because it's more accesible than comics. I said BNHA is popular because it's a TV series. You seem to associate it to the longevity of the characters. Even if Superman was modern, people would still ignore him because comics are not a mass medium. Superman would be more popular if he had good movies.

FUCK YOU, LUTHOR!
They think heroes are defined by struggling physically. And that's because most comic books are about punching things really hard. The best Superman stories are about how he deals with the situations that he can't just punch his way out of.
And thus we've reached the end of this issue. I hope everyone enjoyed some classic Superman! If people would like to continue I'd be more than happy to oblige but if yall want your thread back all you gotta do is ask.
>The worth of person having anything to do with the characters they like
Are you five years old or something?
No one likes mary sue characters anymore.
>That guy with the hat doesn't even stop drinking his bear or turn around fully
Psychic nut shouting in the street, Superman being through through the wall. Just another tuesday in metropolis.
I admit that I didn't care for him during my super-dramatic teen years. But I came back around on him as I realized that the stories I liked most are bright and optimistic ones.
Even in Kingdom Come he wasn't perfect. He was an angry man who chose to leave the world and become a hermit when it took a turn he didn't like instead of remain as an example of how things could be better.
Norman put it best. "You lost your greatest strength the moment you made the 'super' more important than the 'man'."
Well, to be fair. If he stops drinking the bear, it might get angry.
Same.
2nd issue! Written and drawn by Jeff Lemiere. Even if you don't like him as a creator, you can't help but admire that he's one talented dude.
>Frank Miller's TDKR is a testament to what a singulara writer/artist can accomplish. He use of the 4x4 grid is absolutely breahttaking.

Who the fuck hates All-Might?

I lived in a poor household that gradually graduated into a middle class household. Lots of family drama and living in the boonies of Louisiana, I saw a lot of bad shit. But I also see the good in so many of the people who lived there. As I grew up, the world seems to be getting more and more pessimistic and nihilistic.
So naturally, combined with my overempathetic personality, i'm drawn to Superman both as a character and an ideal. A walking personification of the goodness and righteousness embodied somewhere in every human being. A man who, given his near infinite power, chooses to use it to help and defend his fellow man out of the goodness of his heart rather than to gain anything.
tl;dr i like superman because i'm an overly optimistic fag

screw you, I like both Superman and the N52 Amazons.

A shame the Amazons got retconed in rebirth.
