It sounds like Pixar has a bad one on their hands and they know it

It sounds like Pixar has a bad one on their hands and they know it.

They've been pushing trailers for the Disney Frozen Olaf short that comes before Pixar's Coco. Sad part is, it has a better trailer than Coco itself.

Pulling out Frozen to push this movie is like Plan B. The emergency parachute.

What does Pixar need to do to regain its late 2000s status?

Hopefully it's good, but is "Day of the Dead" really the only thing people can think to set in Mexico?

Make good movies.
Also fix their character designs.

Drug cartel disney movie when?

This short was made to boost winter sales of Frozen merchandise, not to help Coco.

You can't fix mexicans

Worse than dory Last dinosaur and cars 3?

Lil coco the cocain bag who wants to make it to LA but ends up in Las Vegas

It needs a new leading group of directors/storytellers that can rival the founding members.
A new generation with there own creativity to continue the tradition of new original films.
But that is very unlikely to happen.

They're loudly broadcasting Diversity with this kind of production lately, but they're still unable to not make the movie about extremely -literally to a cartoonish extent- culturally supercharged themes.

Why not finding an interesting story about WHATEVER, and then just making the protagonist a spanish kid? The only worth they can think of for these cultures is their novelty value, like Disney with Moana; they simply latch by default into the possibilities for exaggerated colorfulness and pat themselves in the back for how progressive they are for "acknowledging" them

Where to find them though? Creatives are currently being raised on an inverted formula of worth: you start from the the "worth" (i.e. themes and elements that guarantee exposure) and then slap a (best-case-scenario) functional but bland story on top.

Real originality is simply not a priority anymore.

I want my fucking Lucha Libre movie, damn it.

WHAT ABOUT A MOVIE ABOUT LUCHA LIBRE BETWEEN CHILACAS AND THEY EAT TACOS AND SALSA

Nothing. They're owned by Disney now. All their talent will be poached. They mustn't outshine the bosses.

They started making this movie a long time before the "diversity push" people like you enjoy screeching about.

Last time I saw something creative in terms of story it was in a cartoon from Malaysia about racing animal people.

I'd like a mexican horror film about La Llorona or better yet The White Death

Pixar was praised for their portrayal of an Asian-American boy in Up because he was just your typical overzealous boy.

Because then they're "acting white". It's a lose lose situation and there's less chance for gratuitous negative feedback if they make it extremely cultural

Up is from 2009; studios didn't feel the need to manically underline that sort of thing for attention yet.

They lost me when they tried to trademark the Day of the Dead

.>chord fingering is: EABbEbBA
Jesus that kid sucks at guitar

he looks like my cousin when he was a kid

all what's Pixar doing nowadays is making toy commercials and telling WDAS what to (not) do.
Sad to see them to like that.

>Why not finding an interesting story about WHATEVER, and then just making the protagonist a spanish kid?
Lilo and Stitch kind of did that is your tipical kid an her alien friend that just happend to take place on hawaii

Already made

>but no living person has ever visited Their world. Until Now.

Oh really?

The funny thing is that progressives can't even agree. The die-hards would say that Disney using the Day of the Dead to tell a story is appropriative but center left dems will just gush how cute it all is.

>So a Mexican walks into a US customs and border control

They could just make absolutely any movie like they always have but make the human characters Mexican.

This is the problem when they want to make a movie for a specific target audience. They go 10 times further trying to capture that target culture so much that their movie becomes almost a parody like that.

Just make something like Up or Ratatouille, a story driven piece that takes that closer look into the world of ...something, only make the main character a latino instead of generic guy #28175.

You're fucking stupid

>They've been pushing trailers for the Disney Frozen Olaf short that comes before Pixar's Coco.
That was just announced a fucking week ago dumbass

Why the fuck would a Pixar movie need help? Its fucking Pixar. The Olaf short is for Frozen

subtle, isnt it?

Nah they were doing this in the 90's too. After a while they saw Disney made Persian movie, Chinese movie, Native American movie, Africa movie and made similar complaints about films only being made to pander to a culture and not to tell a story.

Not enough people gave a shit to listen back then.

itll probably make money

Russel from Up is Asian but you'd literally never notice because they don't focus on it. It's a nice detail.

Cut the sappy. Just take a look at TGD.

they just love this shit.

It's pretty much impossible at this point since the other animation studios are producing Pixar-quality films.

>other animation studios are producing Pixar-quality films.

errr.. like who?

What's the deal with all these Mexican folklore films?

BOL creator is butthurt about Coco.

eh, more visual porn. cool.

More skeleton sisters you mean.

yay, more gurrl power.

If both Pixar movies this year are meh, then maybe we will finally have a foreign or indie film win an Oscar after so many years.

Honestly it's better than little dirty kids selling chewing gum, street vendors selling Chinese shit at a 50% markup, and explosive diarrhea.

He's actually really cool with Coco. It's the Tumblr fanbase that was butthurt about it.

Between them raising a stink about it and Fox no longer having the distribution rights for Dreamworks movies, they seem more willing to fund Reel FX's efforts.

Hey man, the more sugar tits we get the better.

ah, that's okay.
also fuckign Tumblr, i dont even know how to use it, i keep getting ads promoting trans and divershit.

dude.. it's pretty obvious what people think of animation as a whole, academy is no different.

youtu.be/Gk6jsoXPz-g

I haven't even heard of this movie, that's not a great sign (Like the good dinosaur, i only heard about it for two seconds when it was in theaters, and then not again until cinemasins on youtube covered it and it reminded me i hadn't watched it yet. It sucked.

Pixar needs to stop trying to drown its films in whimsy and focus on making good stories. Also their character designs are too bulgey and getting weird.

I'd rather Disney go back to 2D animation once in awhile overall.

oh my sweet summer child.

if you look for 2d animation forget about disney, for good.

Anybody else tempted to go to the theater, watch the short, and then go to the lobby and ask for a refund before its too far along in the actual movie?

worth a try.

I'm seriously more interested in Lego Ninjago movie than Coco

I skipped Cars 3 already.

Sup Forums please go, we don't like you

Nah. I don't even like Frozen all that much.

Probably that animation studio that made Despicable Me or the spin-off like Minions.

Belzebub! Illumination makes "movies" that are equivalent of hotdogs sold from a rusted trailer standing in the middle of street.

...

That gives it charm and crunch, compared to those overtly sterile weiners in tasteless bread that is modern Pixar.
Plus other derogatory remarks and food comparisons about Pixar or whatever.

Those eyes are seriously unsettling. Especially when contrasted against Book of Life's skeleton eyes, which look fantastic (especially Xibalba, with his little skulls for eyes, that's genius). It's really something when Pixar gets outdone visually by a fucking Z level studio who's made 2 movies; Book of Life and goddamn Free Birds.

Isn't Emperor's New Groove in Mexico? Or central america generally?

He wasn't alive, though

It's set in the Incas, so South American.

Despicable Me/HTTYD is on the same level as like, Finding Dory and Cars.

No one will ever match prime Pixar though.

>TFW you're genuinely looking more fowards to this then a fucking Pixar movie.

>He doesn't know about Legend Quest
>He doesn't know about the only kino Mexican cartoon that explore all Mexican mythology and traditions

That's a fake poster.

I thought there was just talk about it, but no confirmation.

I hate waifufags so fucking much. Legend Quest better be good, I'm gonna watch it right now..

>Naveen isn't human

Oh trust me I'm not delusional to believe it'll make a comeback but i keep holding out for some kind of Enchanted sequel where it's mostly animation with a few live action scenes (Or even a blend of the two Roger Rabbit style).

It's a pipedream, something that will never happen, but can you blame me for dreaming? It'd be a breath of fresh air but the problem is children don't give a shit.

I think the only way they'd do it would be if the company started bombing (Release enough "the good dinosaurs" and they're gonna lose a lot movie wise).

But again, just a dream. Sigh~

It'd be funny though if people did it en-masse which might happen anyway.

I like to see everything though but i'm waiting until it comes to redbox

>I haven't even heard of this movie,
Then you have been living under a rock

No? Because I don't like Frozen
>It'd be funny though if people did it en-masse which might happen anyway.
Its Pixar movie dumbass. People will go see it because its Pixar but continue on your delusion that Frozen will help elevate awareness.

>That gives it charm and crunch,
Not really. They're largely forgettable

I think its really cute how this ant-iPixar user tries so hard in every Coco thread

Nah, Book of Life wasn't good and the sequel doesn't look any better. Sup Forums was BTFO with Inside Out and Dory turned out to be good and I'm sure Coco will be the same but then you guys will still call it shit regardless.
