Nice

Based Panos

Looking forward to this one.

bitches gonna get Caged

>battling with chainsaws
>on the poster

>The dude who made Beyond The Black Rainbow
Huh, I was sure he was done for. His only connection to the industry seemed to be his deceased father. But I guess nepotism runs its roots deep.

PANOS IS BACK
I loved black rainbow
Plus Nick cage
HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE
MOVIE OF THE YEAR ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

What are some worthwhile Nic Cage films?

>Panos literally doing a homage to Cobra

im crying

it's been almost a decade since beyond the black rainbow and it's not like cage is a costly actor. anyone can make a movie if you trick enough investors

>nepotism

Nothing wrong with nepotism. Your family should always come first. It is only "bad" when you don't have an "in" into something. Of course somethings like bomb disarming and vehicle safety probably should use meritocracy type selection process...

I liked, "CAGE 4: The Cagiest" where Nick Cage plays himself in yet another Nick Cage film.

stoked

Drive Angry
The Wicker Man

He said he wanted this to basically be “Heavy Metal Van Art” the way that BtBR was “80’s VHS cover”

Chainsaw Battles makes perfect sense in that regard

Beyond The Black Rainbow was literally funded with the dvd sales of Tombstone and it took Panos almost a decade to get this one made, I heard him talk about his next project (which I'm assuming was Mandy, since he described it as heavy metal and more primal than BTBR) like 2011 - 2012. Literally the only reason this got made is Elijah Wood producing it.

Except then you have Hollywood being full of no-talent hacks who shouldn't be getting roles, and directors who sell out to direct the next big-budget franchise flick, artist merit be damned.

Posting some Cagekino

>Beyond The Black Rainbow was literally funded with the dvd sales of Tombstone
Yes, but plenty of people inherit wealth. It's not enough to make a film on its own, even if you know the technical processes required to get it rolling and finished.

search returns nothing so dubius

>and it stars Nic Cage

Seems like every year since around 2009 some director(s) steps up with kino for people who love their aesthetics:

2009: Enter the Void, Amer, Antichrist
2010: Beyond the Black Rainbow
2011: Drive, Melancholia
2012: Spring Breakers, Berberian Sound Studio
2013: Only God Forgives, Nymphomaniac, A Field in England
2014: Lost River, Starry Eyes
2015: Tangerine, The VVitch, Love
2016: The Neon Demon
2017: The Florida Project, Good Time, Blade Runner 2049, Twin Peaks: The Return, Lasagnacat return
2018: Mandy

>it's been almost a decade since beyond the black rainbow
>director still doesn't have a wikipedia page

Oh yeah, add The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears and Under the Skin to 2013.

idk why people would bitch about nepotism with Panos. His dad was basically a ghost director for Stallone and Kurt Russell and it's not like Panos is getting huge studio gigs thanks to his name like Landis.

>Mandy is set in the primal wilderness of 1983 where Red Miller, a broken and haunted man hunts an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life.

>“Panos is one of the most vital young filmmakers alive, a pop-culture Kubrick in the making,” said Noah, SpectreVision’s Head of Development. “Nicolas Cage is a veritable god to those of us who grew up watching his classic performances. Bringing these two together for this surrealist, heavy-metal-soaked story of battle axes and demon bikers is unfathomably exciting to us.”

When people ask what "kino" means, I'd say this gets at it.

People are just butthurt and lazy and like to talk shit. Making anything worthwhile takes incredible amount of effort and dedication.

I really don't get why Panos's career didn't take off.

When you look at all the indie directors getting offered big franchise pictures or remakes, it's really weird he didn't get that too. His film's aesthetic was cribbed endlessly since it's release.

>Pacific Northwest. 1983 AD. Outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.

the texas chainsaw massacre 2 already had a chainsaw duel in the 80s between leatherface and Dennis Quaid and it was radical.

That idea forever belongs to th etexas chainsaw massacre 2 and any other movie wanting to use that idea seems dirty.

if Panos can get a new movie made hope this means Jason Eisener will bless us with a new kino soon

It wasn't nepotism. His dad was dead and disconnected from Hollywood long before Panos started.

HOWEVER - his short and most of Black Rainbow was financed with his inheritence. So that's sorta nepotism. It helped he made a reall great film though.

Really don't get why his career died off. Unless he was a genuine one hit wonder with good timing.

Unlike 99.9% of shit we see put out there like It Follows or The Guest, this was a technically accomplished homage. It actually took the real aesthetic of a period and worked with it - rather than really, really lazy/half assed approach most indie filmmakers take towards Le 80's.

Maybe include The Void for 2016.

And Annihilation for 2018, although we'll have to see how that one turns out.

He might've turned them down even if he got them. It's the Lynch's Dune thing; if you take the money you have to take the oversight with it. Do it on your own and you don't have to answer to anyone. And given how idiosyncratic his movies have to be, the control is probably worth the trade.

Different cinematographer. Shame.

Speaking of which - the cinematographers career also went fucking nowhere. Such an imitated film with some of the best cinematography of the 20teens and the DP is now back to doing short films

i'd imagine he got offers but turn them down since he wouldn't have had creative control.

Shot digitally.

Worried.

It's because he ruined the film with the slasher-esque last act. It would have been better if she just escaped, and Barry had stayed brooding over at the institute. The conflict and resolution between them didn't need to exist

sad that Gaspar Noe never reached his full potential, I guess there's still time

Judging by the poster it looks like Panos is still putting care and attention into how the movie will look (and sound, I'm sure).

>Bringing these two together for this surrealist, heavy-metal-soaked story of battle axes and demon bikers is unfathomably exciting to us.

>heavy metal
>battle axes
>demon bikers
I’m gonna fucking shit myself that sounds glorious.

PLEASE

He liked a picture I put on instagram once (basically saying I was doing a double feature with Hobo With A Shotgun and Turbo Kid) and that felt really nice.

>Chainsaw duel
Thats not Groovy...but i am interested.

I know! And add to that, fucking NICOLAS CAGE in the lead giving it his all. Imagine how intense and crazy he's going to get in this.
