>Apparently, though, Star Was: The Last Jedi almost saved a spot for him until director Rian Johnson decided that it would be a disservice to both Lando’s character and the story arc he was crafting for John Boyega’s Finn. Speaking with The Playlist, Johnson said that there was some discussion of having Lando fill the role that Benicio Del Toro’s DJ did in the movie, replacing him as the shady hacker who helped Finn and newcomer Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) sneak onto Snoke’s ship to disable the hyperspace tracker. The problem was that the plan had to fail, and Johnson wanted it to be because of Finn and Rose’s decision to trust the morally ambiguous hacker. Lando couldn’t have filled that requirement, because everybody loves Lando, and he didn’t want an appearance like that to be “contrived.” (Not to mention the fact that he already betrayed the heroes in one of these movies.)
Why Lando was not in TLJ: Lando is not particularly important to Rey
Juan Peterson
When Rey isnt on screen all the other characters should be asking "where's rey?"
Jonathan Robinson
I mean, it would have sucked for him to ruin Lando's character as well.
Elijah Lopez
good luck on 4000 hrs
Aiden Jones
It would be terrible, but I'm surprised he didn't do it because it would fit so well with the "theme" of SUBVERTING EXPECTATIONS.
Levi Hughes
Shame that level of care for the characters didn't go into the rest of the movie.
Luke Campbell
>story arc he was crafting for John Boyega's Finn.
Yeah, that pointless casino planet and Rose subplot really fleshed out how useless of a character Finn is. Can't wait for the third anti-climatic battle with Phasma.
Thomas Turner
>ruining the black character would step on too many toes >ruining the white characters is all game
Sebastian Turner
If lando was to be in any of the sequels it should have been in the casino in the background.
Alexander Long
You see Rogue One? Fin is like the first honest black guy in the series
Ayden Butler
>until director Rian Johnson decided that it would be a disservice to both Lando’s character Sure didn't stop him with Luke.
Brody Nelson
Why the fuck does Johnson have to talk about every aspect of this fucking film? Whocares? Leave some mystery you fucking hack.
Colton Evans
He tries to do damage control.
Jose Mitchell
>disservice to the character What? This guy made Luke into a fucking hobo. Who the fuck is he to talk about story arcs and character?
David Myers
>the story arc he was crafting for John Boyega’s Finn
Dominic Watson
He should consider himself lucky.
Easton Evans
The more he talks about the movie the more I hate it. Ruin Lando after ruining Luke, Han, Admiral Ackbar. When did he start to give a shit about the characters.
Also that scene in the casino was awful. Fin's arc. Fuck off.
Jose Hall
Good decision
Logan Young
>women writers for Vanity Fair and Vogue trying to explain Star Wars to nerds HAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAAAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAHAAAA
Zachary Hernandez
>Finn's arc
What exactly was it? Going off to some casino planet to do busy work for a mission that he ultimately didn't really need to go on, then come back and try to an hero only to be saved by the girl that has crush on him? THAT arc???
Hunter Kelly
Yeah it would have made a shit movie even worse is they used lando in the exact same way as the originals so better not to use him at all.
Jace Rivera
>The problem was that the plan had to fail,
why? it would have accomplished the same thing whether it failed or succeeded: absolutely nothing
>and Johnson wanted it to be because of Finn and Rose’s decision to trust the morally ambiguous hacker.
why? what does that achieve narratively or characteristically? Finn and Rose are two morons who the Resistance is much better off without? I'm really genuinely not sure what else the audience is supposed to glean from their plot line playing out the way it did.
Grayson Reed
These was no arc. Fin had less of a role in this one than TFA. Rian was trying to build that awful character Rose
Hudson Ortiz
idk if it's hilarious or just depressing that the only story line they considered for Lando was one that would have completely undone all of his character development in the OT.
Lando had a morally complex story for being a side character, he had to balance his new responsibilities as a leader with loyalties to old friends. He tried to compromise one duty (honesty to his friend) to fulfill another (freedom for his people) and ended up nearly losing both.
also
>finn's arc
rofl go fuck yourself, the no womyn edit was stupid, but you could literally edit out the entire casino planet scenes and have a better film. I don't even dislike Boyega, it's just very clear that in every way that his arc in this film is more about checking boxes than exploring anything interesting.
Weird aliens? [X] 'hive of scum'? [X] Diversity? [X] Cute CGI animals to make into toys? [X]

>it would be a disservice to both Lando’s character and the story arc he was crafting for John Boyega’s Finn
liberals are the most racist people

>Only one black man at a time please, thanks :^)
Lucas Fisher
>save the things you love! At all costs!
Is Rose a Sith? That's literally what Anakin did
Kevin Johnson
>it would be a disservice to both Lando’s character and the story arc he was crafting for John Boyega’s Finn >keeps other blacks out so as not to overshadow designated token black is (((progress))) coming full circle?
Hunter Butler
kek good point, i didnt even think about this. emotions over logic is sith philosophy
Luke Morris
>idk if it's hilarious or just depressing that the only story line they considered for Lando was one that would have completely undone all of his character development in the OT. These people have no idea what they're doing
Adam Wood
>emotions over logic is sith philosophy >women
Rain got something right
Christian Reyes
>because everybody loves Lando HOW ABOUT LUKE?
Liam Hernandez
nobody loves luke anymore you manbaby. all the sjws are telling me he was always whiny selfish and stupid and youre a cuck for liking him.
Ethan Howard
>until director Rian Johnson decided that it would be a disservice to both Lando’s character and the story arc he was crafting for John Boyega’s Finn. WHAT A FUCKING HACK This sheer damage control after the film keeps trying to make him look like a great writer\director or some shit, because he 'planned' these things.
No, he's a shitty writer that can't do garbage, he and the media are spinning his non-decisions\decisions like he's some misunderstood genius. This is some serious mental gymnastics, like people who post how clever the prequels were in some connectivity of some sort.
Isaiah Jenkins
lando a hacker does that make sense?
Aiden Clark
SJW Rian Johnson says one nigger is fine, two niggers is a crime waiting to happen.
Cameron Kelly
The same could be said for Luke's character, yet he's still in the movie.
This is just more proof that they don't write orignal stories, but come up with cool action set pieces and write the script to fit around them.
Nicholas Turner
Because this fatass went out of it's way to make this movie as boring as possible?
Levi Gutierrez
Literally every character from the original is done a disservice to. The fact that LUKE of all people in the movie is this uppity hobo on an island because he gave up from a mistake is the entire opposite of his character. Or the fact that Leia whose seen death and taken small chances got upset that Poe took chances at slowing the FO fleet from destroying is also stupid.
How the hell was he ever green-lite to write anything is beyond me.
Nathaniel Stewart
UH OH!
Ryan Evans
Real reason is because movies aren't allowed to have more than one black guy
Bentley Carter
That's just Jake Skywalker's characterization, no?
Noah Carter
If he had been in the film, Lando would have probably had a higher command rank than Holdo.
Adrian Johnson
>Literally every character from the original is done a disservice to. They will lose a minority fanbase (Black people), and at the same time will feel like an attack to SJW movement and something "racist", they avoid that.
