PUNISHER STORYTIME
All year long I'll be posting Punisher comics, with the bulk of the stories posted being from before the Ennis run, but also with some Ennis era stuff at some point and maybe something from the post-Ennis era eventually. Expect at least 1 story per week.
Today is the first day of summer, so we're gonna read all 4 Punisher Summer Specials.
For those that don't remember, The Punisher was so ludicrously popular in the late 80s and early 90s that he not only had 3 separate ongoings coming out at one point (not even counting the 2099 spin-off), he also had 3 different "seasonal" "specials" (Summer, Back to School, Holiday) plus Annuals for 2 of his ongoings and one-shots and a new one-shot or miniseries coming out nearly every month. Believe it or not, there was a point where you could read a new Punisher comic practically every single week.
The Summer/Back to School/Holiday Specials were basically glorified Annuals (without actually calling them that), even coming out on a literally annual basis. They would usually consist of 1 "main" story that'd be about standard issue length, plus 2 or 3 short stories, and some pin-up art, in total clocking in at usually just over twice the size of a normal comic. The writers would generally be a mix of people who'd had runs on the ongoing titles (in particular Chuck Dixon and Steven Grant, but others as well) along with random other writers. The stories themselves are a combination of "seasonally themed" and "just coincidentally happens to take place during that time of the year". Holiday and Back to School both got 3 issues, but Summer ran a little longer with 4.
So turn up the air conditioning, grab yourself a cold drink, and sit your ass down and let's read some Punisher comics.
