>we will never get a good All Quiet on the Western Front Remake

most people arent interested in making or watching movies where thousands of young men sit in trenches then get shelled for a while and occasionally run at some barbed wire before getting promptly mowed down by machine guns

That's weird, Hacksaw ridge was generally well received around here.

fuck WW2 movies tbqh, WW1 movies need to be made that are much more gritty and chaotic.

>tfw I will probably die at my desk from a heart attack or failed liver instead of getting mowed down in No Mans Land and bleeding out for Queen and country

Nach Dem Sturm

...

>tfw no Storm of Steel adaptation

Kinda good though because they'll just neuter Junger and make him into ebil notzi even though it's fucking WW1

And when they ask us, and they're certainly going to ask us

Didn't that guy get injured like 14 times? It's been a while since I read that.

>tfw no WW1 sci-fi horror film

Good. Can you imagine what a travesty that would be, in CURRENT YEAR + 3?

It's been a while for me too but yeah he does and he always goes back into the field because he loved it so much.

>Get ONE (1) life
>Lose it in some field for some retarded reason you will never understand

Fur das Kaiser Reich, homie. I'd give my life for the true Reich and his majesty.

>Fighting began at Verdun, named for the French town that was its focus point.
>A French captain reports: ...I have returned from the most terrible ordeal I have ever witnessed. […] Four days and four nights – ninety-six hours – the last two days in ice-cold mud – kept under relentless fire, without any protection whatsoever except for the narrow trench, which even seemed to be too wide. […] I arrived with 175 men, I returned with 34 of whom several had half turned insane....
>A French Lieutenant reports: ...Firstly, companies of skeletons passed, sometimes commanded by a wounded officer, leaning on a stick. All marched, or rather: moved forwards with tiny steps, zigzagging as if drugged. […] It seemed as if these speechless faces cried over something appalling: the unbelievable horrors of their martyrdom....
>The last note from the diary of Alfred Joubaire, a French soldier: ...They must be crazy to do what they are doing now: what a bloodbath, what horrid images, what a slaughter. I just cannot find the words to express my feelings. Hell cannot be this dreadful. People are insane!...
>A German soldier writes to his parents: ...An awful word, Verdun. Numerous people, still young and filled with hope, had to lay down their lives here – their mortal remains decomposing somewhere, in between trenches, in mass graves, at cemeteries....
>A German officer recalls: ...We saw a handful of soldiers, commanded by a Captain, slowly approaching, one at the time. The Captain asked which company we were and then started to cry all of a sudden. Did he suffer of shellshock? Then he said: ...when I saw you approach it reminded me of six days ago, when I walked this same road with approximately hundred men. And now look how few there are left.... We watched as we passed them; they where about twenty. They walked by us as living, plastered statues.

>it's another "Brits pretend the Somme was the worst battle of WWI, even though French veterans who lived Verdun described the Somme as a mild walk in the park"

>A French soldier: ...my battalion comes straight from the land behind the front-lines, the men are exhausted and did not sleep. The battalion consists of 800 men - the battalion that we are here to replace lost 800 men...
>A German eye-witness: ...The losses are registered as follows: they are dead, wounded, missing, nervous wrecks, ill and exhausted. Nearly all suffer from dysentery. Because of the failing provisioning the men are forced to use up their emergency rations of salty meats. They quenched their thirst with water from the shellholes. They are stationed in the village of Ville where every form of care seems to be missing. They have to build their own accommodation and are given a little cacao to stop the diarrhoea. The latrines, wooden beams hanging over open holes, are occupied day and night – the holes are filled with slime and blood...
>A neutral contemporary feels: …that they, within the framework of this World War, are involved in some affair, that will still be considered horrible and appalling in a hundred years time. It is this Hell of Verdun. Since a hundred days – day and night – the sons of two European people fight stubbornly and bitterly over every inch of land. It is the most appalling mass murder of our history…
>A soldier: …One of the trenches is so filled with wounded and dead bodies the attackers have to use the parapet in order to be able to move forward…
>A German witness: ….the latrines cause major problems. They are completely blocked up and smell terribly. This stench is fought with chlorinated lime and this smell mixes with the battlefield smell of decomposition. Men even wear their gas masks when using the latrines…

...Bob.

>Lived through all four years of the war
>fucking loved it

was he genuinely insane?

No you wouldn't you faggot. And those young men didn't want to, either, they just weren't given a choice.

>All Quiet on the Western Front Remake
Unnecessary and a pox on you house for suggesting such a thing.

Ivan's Childhood is a WW2 movie but it feels like a WW1.

Battle of the Marne was worse than Verdun pleb.

True but it was always my favourite documentary at school

Bob was hot. I'd fuck Bob.

thats a funny way to spell subversive jewish finance user

I did say a "good" remake

And also that it will never happen. We can dream though.

I mostly agree with you, user. But it's also easy for me to say that stuff in retrospect. When you read just a little bit about the world before WW!, La Belle Epoque, the Edwardian Era, the Wilhelmina Era, it becomes clear that this war set the West backwards more than anything else in history. The Allies won and we get shitty Anglo liberalism dominating the world instead of a conservative German monarchy, and then there's the fact an Austrian runs Germany into the ground later

It lasted a lot less though. And battle of the Frontiers may have cost France more men, but individually it was Verdun that wounded the country most in amount of deaths.

And Marne was brutal for pulling into action soldiers who had not slept since weeks, but that was even worst for the opening stages of Verdun since you had French soldiers trapped in their fronts having to defend every waking hour since they'd been cut off from their lines.

That's the British though, the Juice always favored and hedge their bets on them.

Somme literally was worse though in terms of intensity, in terms of shells per minute.

youtube.com/watch?v=bxK-qR14pVg&list=PLdEBPyoq11-7H07u7iwGM_3l-_QfxFj9B

There's always this

user that's a documentary not a film

Yes, but it was worse for the French since the Germans engaged the battle when they had the high-ground from which they'd knocked shell after shell into the French, utterly obliterating the forts that were once France's shining display of military defense policy.

The Somme had a deafening display at work too, with the French bringing in their new expertise at artillery garnered at Verdun and the British sending their first conscripted army of the war "over the top", but most Germans had already dug in as per the strategy of being aggressive in the East, and defensive in the East, and it did little against them. If anything the tragedy for the English at the Somme was how little their shelling of the German lines performed. The French had more success since their men had already been fighting for 2 years, but the British had their worst day in military history ever the first day of attacking on foot.

So I'd argue shelling was equally bad at Verdun.

>Sacrificing your life so your descendants can allow Europe to become a third world cesspool in a few generations

Shame on you

It's comfy tho

Hard to be a God

Why? the one from the 70's was OK at best.

In the end that is how history will look at it coldy, the last big hoorah of conventional warfare as wars from now on are resource wars.

Na you'll never get that kind of adrenline spike in your life again.

...

...

I actually genuinly would like to see what the current holywood would do to the novel

Like, where do they add strong black women? And how?

If anything, that novel is the one that is impossible to SJW-ise

not a great film but this scene was ace in cinemas

youtu.be/4zBQGY_p4QM?t=36s

WW1 did nothing wrong, its WW2 that broke the West and ensured the eternal dominance of Le Beady Eyed Anglo. Germany would have had a golden age in teh 40's and 50's, if a certain monotesticular saurkraut hadn't gotten his way.

They'd just make some characters black with no explanation at all, then call out as "racist" anyone who objects.

Paths of glory is KINO
youtube.com/watch?v=gPtVNDvwGMo

Everyone should see Joyeux Noel (2006). Literally No More Brother Wars: The Christmas Movie.

Here's how. They deconstruct the source material and make the main character a young, black French soldier instead of a German.
