I...I think that Burn After Reading is the funniest comedy from the Coens. It’s not their best comedy (Big Lebowski has some of the best characters, writing, story and satirical structure of anything they’ve ever made) but its humor is, without a doubt, the strongest. Every joke lands, every joke is incredibly funny, its spoken jokes are just as strong as their physical jokes, etc.
It's one of their best movies I agree. Don't be ashamed. Everything like George Clooney knowing about wood floors and Richard Jenkins saying "I'm not here representing Hardbodies" is fantastic. And that Dermott Mulrooney movie-within-the-movie.
Jaxon Edwards
I only like George Clooney in Coen Bros movies. He was born to play an idiot
Caleb Moore
I love Mississippi Burning
Adrian Scott
You forgot the funniest goddamned scene in the whole movie. And the fall out! Clooney’s goofy ass has been talking about his gun the entire time, he discharges it once on a home invader and he goes completely batshit!
Cameron Myers
Osborne Cox...?
Camden Hall
I remember seeing this in theaters, the audience reaction to this moment was priceless. Nobody saw that shit coming, lol
Connor Cook
>YOU’RE PART OF A LEAGUE OF MORONS this is a fucking classic
Luis Johnson
RAPPORT YOU FUCKING MORON
Cameron Sanchez
Clooney thinking everyone in the park is a spook is still the best acting he's ever done
Adam Wood
its absolutely underrated among their filmography.
There are so many literally laugh out loud moments. I was in hysterics even when i watched this film on my own
Aaron Morgan
>tfw this is my workout mantra
Mason Collins
Osbourne Cox is easily, one of the greatest characters in comedy. The way he pronounces french words with rosetta stone level precision, or loses his temper on the phone with a bank teller before stepping out of his boat unfettered by a plague of seagulls. That this movie hasnt reached Hangover levels of popularity is nuts
Zachary Lewis
What's funny got to do with anything? Llewyn Davis depressed the hell out of me but it's the best kino they've ever made.
Aaron Watson
Yeah, it's really fucking great. the whole clueless but aware c.i.a thing is so funny. Barton Fink is far funnier though.
I'LL SHOW YOU THE LIFE OF THE MIND!
Gavin Ramirez
Should be rated higher than The Big Lebowski everywhere
Ryan Kelly
Every Coen Brothers’ comedy is underappreciated it’s time but at least they live on as great films forever.
Carter Morales
That whole "league of morons" speech he gives Richard Jenkins at the end is pure gold
Jayden Fisher
How long did it take to get over the states at the gym? Anyone ask you who you’re talking to when you were saying “I’m back, you fuckers?”
Ryder Diaz
When people talk about the Coens, they put their movies into two catagories: their films and their comedies.
Llewelyn Davis is one of their films; it’s amazing, well written and well acted with plenty of funny moments. Other notable entries are: A Serious Man, True Grit, Fargo and Barton Fink. Burn After Reading is one of their comedies, along with Oh Brother, Hail Caesar, The Man Who Wasn’t There and Raising Arizona.
Luis Sanders
...
Juan Jones
Coen Bros. filmography is incredibly consistent.
Hail Caesar! was unironically my favorite film of 2016.
Elijah Reed
>I thought you might be worried... about the security... of your shit.
Robert Harris
[DIVINE PRESENCE TO BE SHOT]
Luke Lee
The worst that you could say about any of their movies is that they’re okay, and that only applies to the Ladykillers and Intolerable Cruelty, both of which still have very funny moments.
Matter of fact, Ladykillers has tons of great, very funny moments, but the overall movie doesn’t stand up to repeated viewings while the bit with the train obsessed tycoon chasing lingerie models around his bedroom in Intolerable Cruelty is so damned funny that it’s been burned into my memory despite having only seen the movie once.
Grayson Bell
Ladykillers is underrated, but I do think Intolerable Cruelty was pretty bad. I didn't enjoy it at all
Logan Kelly
The end of Intolerable Cruelty with the retarded thug guy was pretty funny though.
Brandon Foster
wait, The Man Who Wasn't There was a comedy? I'm gonna have to watch that one again, it's been years
Ryder Gonzalez
>Ladykillers doesn’t stand up to repeated viewings t. brings his bitch to the waffle hut
Christopher Cook
I think BAR is one of the best movies ever made regardless of the genre. That said. I was extremely dissapointed with Hail, Ceasar!
David Flores
It’s an incredibly dry comedy, but it’s pretty clear that’s the intention.
Austin Lee
Great movie great characters, I absolutely hated all the women in this movie though, and Frances mcdormand is a great actress but I absolutely hated her character.
Colton Perez
>I absolutely hated all the women in this movie though
they were written to be unlikable, relax
Colton Hughes
And you liked the men? Aside from the Dad from Six Feet Under, all of the men were just as bad as the women.
Colton Johnson
patrician choice, my pilgrim. matter fact it's the best coens' film of the century (yes, slightly better than even ncfom) and 3rd best overall (behind tbl and fink). just a wonderful ode to human stupidity
Nathan Cox
only Pitt is funny, this was a chore user
James Martin
The only one that was written to be a bitch was Cox's wife, the other women become bitches throughout the course of the movie, Clooney's wife turned out to be a cheater just like him, but the worst of them all was Mcdormands character (and she acts it wonderfully because I feel genuine anger towards her character) she gets two men killed, pretends like it's no big deal, openly tries to commit treason, all for what? For her selfish shallow reasons of getting plastic surgery, and the kicker is she gets it!
Jaxon Jones
Chad wasn't as bad as the women at all. He was just trying to help his friend Linda Litsky.
Benjamin Collins
Brad Pitt and the other guy from hardbodies were fine, the CIA director Guy was underrated, Osborne Cox was a product of his environment, Clooney was the only scumbag desu.
Benjamin Wilson
what have we learned, palmer?
Lincoln Gray
Dude, his first instinct when he finds documents belonging to an actual /CIA AGENT/ is to use blackmail! He literally tried to blackmail one of the country’s (former) top law enforcement agents!
Landon Taylor
I fucking love this movie
Julian Baker
john malkovich knows his cuss words
Gabriel Robinson
the russians?!?
Daniel Morris
Yeah I forget when Manolo first found the documents on the floor there, Chad wanted to get money from it. Still, he seemed like a lovable doofus.
Grayson King
served and witnessed
Ryan Rivera
>First ya say ya can't commit, WOULD YOU COME DOWN FROM THERE?!
Adrian Lewis
>no discussion, just "you're out"? >well, we're having the discussion... now
Nathaniel Barnes
Oh yeah, without a doubt, he’s not a malicious person. I don’t think he intends harm on anyone. But I think that’s just because he’s too dumb to understand that blackmail is bad.
Landon Smith
I have a DRINKING problem?
Joseph Gutierrez
it was on the floor there
just lying there
Juan Murphy
Close but Clooney's dildo chair surpasses Judy Davis' head in a box.
Henry Torres
pc or mac?
Adam Flores
Seriously now, why was Olsen there?
Wyatt Powell
even the Putin poster in that scene makes me laugh
David Morgan
...
Liam Thomas
If you went to the Russian embassy claiming you had government secrets would they actually turn you over to the authorities?
And follow up isn't that treason basically and punishable by death?
Jordan Murphy
Fuck you peck you're a mormon. Compared to you we all have a drinking problem.
Elijah Perez
based as fuck patrician tier comedy. no shame user, for you have become a true patrician today
Oliver Morales
Something about how Brad Pitt was pretending to be a spy like a moron and fooled George Clooney into thinking he was one was amazing, despite it being a really simple plot point. I don't think it's their best best movie, but it was pretty great.
i just noticed there's no a the man who wasn't there torrent to d/l, i'll have to get a physical copy for once
William Gutierrez
If we're going with that criteria then Fargo and Barton Fink should be in there as well, since they're clearly also dark comedies. I think it's kind of stupid to divide them like that anywat.
Nicholas Wright
unfortunately, this kino came directly and right after the super serious ncfom, therefore the audiences were conditioned to expect something in a similar manner, hence why this movie got overlooked and underrated
Joshua Perry
>tfw your brother tells you not to waste your time on this shitty spy movie >tfw you tell him that was one of the best comedies ever made. >tfw he realizes he was simply fooled by the dramatic music into thinking it was a serious spy thriller
John Thomas
I liked that his whole idea of "pretending to be a spy" was pretty much just squinting a lot. This movie was hilarious
Angel Garcia
Your brother sounds sub 70 IQ... how could you possibly think this was a serious movie
Jaxon Cruz
its their best and funniest movie
Cooper Ross
oh fuck, i rewound that scene ten times when I first saw it, cracks me up harder each time
Isaiah Jenkins
fuck if i know, but to this day i give him shit when he rants about people doing stupid shit that isnt nearly as dumb as completely missing a cut and dry comedy and thinking its a bad spy movie
Elijah Butler
Dude, the spy music was some of the funniest shit in the movie. This super serious music is playing over absolute nonsense and I couldn’t stop laughing.
Elijah Ross
TUCHMAN MARSH
Easton Jenkins
Yeah, this is up there with my favorite comedy movies. Which are something like (in no order):
To Be Or Not To Be (1942) Duck Soup A Night at the Opera Monkey Business Animal Crackers Monty Python and the Holy Grail Modern Times Dr. Strangelove A Hard Day's Night This Is Spinal Tap The Jerk The Blues Brothers Pee-Wee's Big Adventure The Muppet Movie Three Amigos The Naked Gun The Naked Gun 2 1/2 The Big Lebowski Groundhog Day Caddyshack What About Bob? Ed Wood Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure Ghostbusers The Princess Bride Burn After Reading
Jaxson Sanders
Anyone notice how Coen Bros. threads are some of the most civil that you’ll find on Sup Forums?
Josiah White
That is a very solid list, man. Missing Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? though.
Sebastian Kelly
Pretty much the same thing happened to The Big Lebowski, too. People were expecting another Fargo and hated that they got a neo-noir comedy with a stoner protagonist instead. Audiences are plebs.
I'm glad Burn After Reading is finally getting some love, though. Hell, even here, I barely saw anything good about it until maybe last year.
Samuel Ramirez
Meant to include that, for sure.
Easton Thompson
Not to pay myself on the back, or take the credit, but I’ve always tried my best to talk up both Burn After Reading and A Serious Man as their overlooked classics. The Hudsucker Proxy also deserves more respect.
You know, for kids!
Michael Stewart
>just lying there
Juan Martinez
You are pretty tight down there, sir.
Tyler Parker
I think it was implied he was from HR or something
Alexander Richardson
Something snapped in my ass!
Landon Jones
There are no good or bad characters in this movie, just idiots.
Landon Gutierrez
david rasche was the best
Jack Hall
Coen Bros Kinomatic Universe when
Jaxson Martinez
god dammit this is the best Sup Forums thread in years.
