except we are going to sail to faggotry lands to live forever. sorry boat is full, so rot in here I guess
>imply he isn't just telling the manlet some bullshit story to help him face his impending brutal death
Gandalf was a master manipulator
>describe the journey to valinor
>oh sorry pippen forgot you can't come
dick move gandalf
This the sad truth, the third age was just a chess game between Gandalf and Sauron
Well mortals who sailed to Valinor didn't become immortal there anyway.
Uh yeah, they did.
But there IS life after death, if you're a Roman Catholic.
and saruman, and the other "wizards"
No they didn't. They just got to spend the rest of their days in a peaceful paradise without pain, but they did not become immortal.
>live in a world where actual magic exists
>doubt the existence of an afterlife and find it comforting to be told it's real
what did they mean by this
no, they didn't.
frodo and bilbo were able to finally heal of their wounds and influence of the ring when they crossed the sea, but they didn't live forever.
sauron trolled the numeoreans into trying to invade to claim immortality, and before they got btfo by god were told YOU FUCKING IDIOTS, it's the immortal beings living there that make it the undying lands not the other way around.
The elves are envious of those who get to die because is is suspected they get to join the chorus of the next making.
He did die and come back. I think he'd know and he tells them about eternity when they meet in mirkwood.
...
to be fair Earendil was mortal and they made him immortal, so they can grant immortality. Although it's maybe not so good since some elves are jealous of the mystery of mortality.
>Gandlaf fights the Balrog
>Balrog thrusts a flaming spear in his side
>Lies there with arms outstreched before dying
>Comes back to life after 3 days
Bravo Tolkien
Sauron didn't take gandalf super seriously
sounds boring
were there life before your life?
wew kid such edge lel xD haha lol
earendil was half elf, all half-elven were given the choice of which race to be fated to, it's a special case.
And living forever in that same place doesn't?
And as usual the fedoraposter misses the point completely.
Was valinor a metaphor for doing the americas?
I think it was about the beginning of all the magical things leaving to hidden parts of the world. Remember, to Tolkien this was the ancient history of what would become our Earth. This was his explanation for how all this magic was here in the time of legends, but isn't now.
AND ALL WILL TURN

A LIGHT ON THE WATER
ALL SOULS PASS...
INTO THE WEEEEST
I literally cry errytime lads. It's just too much for me;
>Read Silmarillion
>Elves come to Middle Earth and embark
>Gazillion of Balrogs attack them
>Elves nearly kill them all at once
Well, yeah, we already know there are ghosts.
What a strange coincidence that Mordor location on map of middle earth corresponds to location of Mecca in our world
Shit I didn't even know this. Where is it mentioned? Silmarilion? I know that must be spelled wrong.
almonds: activated
LOTR IS GOAT
youtube.com
Can't wait until Soy King does Netflix Tolkien adaptation.
To be fair elves in the first age were absolute madmen.
but that would make gondor zion
>trying to shit up a comfy lotr thread
you have no power here
Yeah thats what got me.
Characters can literally see wizards perform magic tricks, walking and talking trees, monsters made of fire, immortal elves, and a legion of ghosts, but the afterlife is a step too far for some of them.
It makes no sense that they'd be talking about it.
most people, especially hobbits isolated in the shire, haven't seen these things.
to most hobbits gandalf is just an old man that brings fireworks, it's not like he's juggling lightning in front of them
This. They make a point that the things we're seeing in LOTR is rare, monumental shit. There are what, 5 or so wizards in the whole world as far as we know? Elves all hide away, the Ents were hidden, Mordor was dormant for ages. To the average human or hobbit the world was fairly mundane. In addition there seems to be no organized religion to sell people on the idea of one. So yeah, saying you get to go to some weird ghost universe when you die and hang out with all the other ghosts and jack each other off, that would seem not only a stretch, but also a bizarre concept that no one had probably ever thought up.
Yes but he was formless after. Annatar the Lord of Gifts. He had them do human sacrifice on the Star Island
evil ghosts that is.
Yeah its stated that the gift of Eru Iluvatar to men was mortality, so clearly dying is actually a good thing since they get to be free of Arda when they die where as the elves are intrinsically bound to the world as with the rest of nature and cannot escape it.
still better than all capeshit and disneywars combined lmao
Except for the Teleri. Bunch of singing sea loving faggots.
The Elves in the First Age are more powerful than Gandalf (at least Gandalf the grey) for example Galadriel who was one of the original Noldor seemed to be more powerful or at least equal to Gandalf in magic. The Istari were Maiar who had their innate powers toned down to almost nothing, and were not supposed to interfere in the world directly with force but to guide with their knowledge. So actually they're quite weak. Additionally, all beings in the first age seem way more powerful but as time progressed magic lost its potency in the world with the rise of moral men to inherit middle earth.
