Impressive
How tf do they make this stuff at such a large scale?
good thread.
don't die on me
Wait wtf is up with that second car in the ending? That wasn't in the film right?
>let's make a complex CGI Elvis animation for something that only will be seen in the dark background for 3 seconds
and that's how BR2049 was a flop
Because they put too much effort into a project that was destined to bomb seeing as the original bombed and the only sci-fi and I know it's fantasy not sci-fi get off my dick about it series they like it Star Wars?
Yeah no shit
youtube.com
Del Toro is the God of CG water

It's truly amazing to see the actors in Pacific Rim pre-vfx
oh, I thought they just took legit Elvis footage and made it look hologramish, didn't know they went through all that shit.
No wonder movies cost 8 trillion dollars
Reminds me of that story on Heavens Gate that 2 sides of the western town were too close togetger so instead of just moving one side back they moved both sides back
Left looks extremely fake.
>As an example of Cimino's fanatical attention to detail, a street built to his precise specifications had to be torn down and rebuilt because it reportedly "didn't look right." The street in question needed to be six feet wider; the set construction boss said it would be cheaper to tear down one side and move it back six feet, but Cimino insisted that both sides be dismantled and moved back three feet, then reassembled.
Thumbnail is strangely arousing
wew
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Anybody has a torrent for BR2049 Bluray extras?
Some people can't handle power. It's the same reason Dan Harmon makes 2 decent seasons of television, develops a complex after attending comicon and loses his fucking mind
I'm just looking for a torrent of the blu ray. tpb still only has cam rips unless i'm trippin
I haven't watched the video, but did they? I read it was an Elvis impersonator.
this shit is seriously impressive
Damn, I genuinely thought sinatra was from real footage
It's an impersonator on a green screen set, but then they combined it with a gorillian cgi effects
god DAMN cgi done right
Wait wut. Why even bother with this if it was all CG kek.
This particular scene looked really bad too.
Yeah they should have blown up a real rocket and had Henry Cavill fly in and carry it down.
I was thinking of watching this, this may have convinced me.
watch it, underrated movie desu
>having to do all this acting
Ahhhhhhhh
Okay I feel like a giant retard but I still don't understand how movies do the same person on the screen twice (or more) thing so seamlessly to where it feels like they are literally interacting with a completely different actor.
This seems to show how they layer different takes together to make it seem like they are all there at once, which I get, but I guess I mean more the actual interaction, touching, fighting, etc. syncs so perfectly.
It doesn't help I've heard so many different explanations as to how they do this.
Goddamn...Either way it's neat when a show/movie does it well.
pls
on a big screen simpler methods would look even more kooky
It's not even that complicated, what, do you think people literally labor on that digital forest, killing themselves for weeks at every tree? no.
I actually thought they did something more complex, like a 3d scan or something, for that scene with kids at a birthday party, but it was more straightforward than that. I've been looking forward to seeing how it was done, thank you for posting this.
Now that I think about it, it'd be difficult to make convincing 3d models for that scene, it's all up close, it'd look fake as fuck - not in the way intended
MOVIE MAGICK
its pretty properly rated
If the actors need to touch, they just have a standin do the touching, then layer over, otherwise there's just a standin that's replaced.
I mean shit nigga, 90% of film acting is reacting to things that aren't there anyway.
...
I love 2049 but I'm actually inclined to agree, this seems like a huge waste of time and money. If they just used the stand-ins literally nobody would have noticed the difference, especially for Sinatra he's fucking tiny
I can't believe that last iconic shot of K going drive mode was done with this crude wave machine
That bottom pic. Is that a woman dressed up as a man?
The Marilyn one was super unnecessary, the look-alike was a dead ringer for her.
...
>It's not even that complicated, what, do you think people literally labor on that digital forest, killing themselves for weeks at every tree?
I mean, yes? Post production is a long process. I would believe that they spent a decent amount of time rendering that forest. And for a Hollywood big budget production I would also imagine time is taken to look over things, probably more than once.
Here is a small sample of artists that worked on 2049. Just a few guys, no big. I'm sure it's not as amazing when you know the ins and outs of digital graphics or work in the field or whatever, but I can also safely assume it's not quite as simple as you make it out to be.
oh wow, i didn't realize this was Ana de Armas
nice
>Cam rip
Web-dl was out weeks ago now and the full bd atmos rip 65+gb has already been out for a few days
>mfw I watched Weta Workshop's video about all the miniatures they made for BR2049
based kiwis
There was a long breakdown i think it was another company describing all the other video effects they used and how the cities were created got inspiration from current polluted cityscape photos. Yet the "patricians" complained it was dull here
>ywn see the unedited and uncropped footage from the giant JOI hologram scene
Now show how they did the naked giant scene
>especially for Sinatra he's fucking tiny
>next scene is closeup
yeah okay, totally could do away with a video cutout and setting opacity to 50%, no one at IMAX would even bat an eye
rendering, yeah
you ever heard this hot word, photogrammetry
Which video is this from?
Do ana also had a russian counterpart?
any links of vfx PRE FOOTAGE with actors or actresses on green screen pls ?
it looked dull because Deakins went too far with the color grading on the super clean digital images. The lighting in the original film was way more pronounced and moody. Not that 2049 looked bad, but compared to the original it just wasn't as dynamic
Basically Villeneuve is /ourguy/
lots of good stuff here youtube.com
WHO WOULD WIN
>a major studio with $300 million dollars
or
>1 mustache clause
Star Wars: The Prequel Trilogy: Behind The Scenes
someone better leak that shit
Alright, Villeneuve wins, I legitimately 100% thought the forest was real, or at the very least a goddamn set and then they just added it into the hologram room thing later.
Fucking CG. I'm gonna go question my life.
Shame he can't direct or pick a script. I mean to be fair neither could Ridley, in the case of the scripts, but at least he can work with actors.
>Cut to Harrison sitting on a wetset while two now worthless characters have an awkward slap fight in some water
May as well shut the movie off at pic related and leave K confused and disgruntled.
his mustache looks tight as fuck in pictures of him in Mission Impossible 6, worth it imo
Watch The Appendices for LotR if you haven't already, it's a wet dream whether you're in to the technical work behind filmmaking or not. Hell even the fucking costume designer lady was fun to watch.
And if you're in the mood for something depressing, watch the Battle of the Five Armies Appendices, and remember that New Line was and still is pure evil.
Yeah. He fucked over the correct movie.
Are you talking about this?
You think he is a bad director?
Blocked in my country
What role is he even playing in this. Is he on the team or is he a villain?
yeah I've seen the appendices for both trilogies, The Hobbit ones are still pretty kino. And it was Warner Bros, not New Line, who fucked over The Hobbit. Literally made Jackson turn 2 movies into 3 a few months before the first film came out
>franchise
it's a sequel to a 30 year old cult classic, he's hardly fucking JJ Abrams
Every frame a painting. You say that now, but then its nerds on Sup Forums who freeze frame everything and laugh about shit.
Do cameramen get to fuck up?
You better get that shot just right. Think of all the other hungry camera operators right beyond that door.
Absolutely not, I just don't really see anything visionary about him. Not yet, anyway.
Like you could hand the script to Nolan and get the same product, especially with this weird attitude post-Dunkirk Nolan has.
I appreciate all the technical work that went into 2049 and that they didn't blow the budget, but I have zero evidence that all of this was Venezuela's vision. Maybe he didn't care to overuse CGI and let his production team know it, who knows?
Visionaries usually have people who realize they're visionaries documenting them.
Also the script kinda sucks for a lot of his films, and it's distressing that he doesn't seem to care. Ridley is still alive, do we really need another concept director, who consequently can't even get good performances out of actors?
>he still uses tpb
Dude, go to rarbg
Speaking of, what's up with this bullshit
BRAVO DENNIS!
they are so fucking retarded, if they just made him also grow a beard for JL and give him a black suit it would've been awesome.
what am I supposed to be looking at?
The artificially added black bars
>complaining about a theatrical film being widescreen
wew
>Yeah. He fucked over the correct movie.
That's what I fucking love. Justice League was going to be an awful movie regardless of the mustache.
Mission: Impossible 6
He's the villain, I think.
That's stupid.
>Attention to small details is bad
Back to the Star Wars and capeshit threads, user.
Just wait until he complains about the curved glass too
>picking your battles is bad
ok
Bet he'd lose his shit if he realized a lot of directors digitally recompose the framing of whole shots in the edit bay
that is a ton of work for an elvis impersonation that is never really given a clear closeup
cool stuff
fuuuucking hell she really is perfect in every way possible
nah I don't think he's the villain, it's the same villain as the last one. He might be a new member of the team to fill Jeremy Renner's role. IIRC he's from MI6 (nice) and his name is some absurdly English name like Edward Tribblebottom
Why couldn't he have just left the aspect ratio at 16:9 for the blu ray version instead of adding in those black bars? Nolan opens up the aspect ratio for Dunkirk, why not Denis?
Because it's not intended to be that way? Nolan does it because of the IMAX format, this (just like 99% of other films) is intended for the 2.39 : 1 cinema format.
Films are primarily made to be seen in a cinema, not on your monitor/TV
The larger picture is for IMAX, dumbass.
But when BR2049 was shown in IMAX screens the aspect ratio was 4:3 (see pic related), Denis was generous enough to open up the aspect ratio for those screens but not for blu-ray even though there are literally no TV screens that are 2.39:1?
Fucking why?
That was not made by Villeneuve or by Deakins, it's entirely a decision from the studio, IMAX was never even thought of while shooting.
Deakins himself confirmed this on his blog, the IMAX version is not the intended version, 2.39:1 is. And I say again, films are primarily made for cinemas, not to make compromises for the Netflix audience.
I mean you are aware that all cameras shoot in full frame? Why don't you complain about this in for example Lord of the Rings bluray, or any other film?
AHHHHHH!!! It cuts to the shitty hologram just before she shows her butt
they still used CGI water for the deleted scene, no idea why though
is that tpb or rarbg?
