Sequential Art

In which Kat is falling for another console meme. Stop her!

Stop shilling your terrible work Jollyjack

...

This. And yes, we know it's you JJ. You aren't fooling anyone.

At least it's Art and Kat stuff again, no more god damn Pip.

I'm never going to be able to convince you that it's not me starting these threads. I hope they don't stop, though, and not for the sake of additional promotion; reading angry comments like this is hilarious. It's like listening in to someone stuck in a darkened room - who you KNOW is completely alone - yelling "I know someone's there! It's not funny!"

The fact I know some young ones that dont know about VHS and Im just 24

...

OP here. I actually post a lot of different webcomics on here. I enjoy them and want to see their popularity grow.

It's kinda funny how if your thread isn't one of the 'regular' webcomics, people say you're not allowed to 'shill' it. Like the regulars just started that way or something.

My dad loves telling a story how he was one of the first people in his state to buy a VHS player or some shit, they had like this big team of people and the regional manager come to his house to install it for him.

The envelope is in the usual place.

The things I do for squirrel tits.

The only webcomics that get huge threads are the ones that make people mad or have poorly explained plot.
Even stuff like Unsounded only gets to like 60 replies on average before sinking.

But VHS WAS a meme, Beta was the real deal.

Everything looks better on a laserdisc!

A laserdisc!

You saying porn is a meme?

Jack, I don't much care for you as a person and frankly your art isn't my cup of tea. But you've proven yourself in a professional environment, and it's clear that you have at least some idea of what you're doing. I KNOW you're capable of a lot when you put your mind to it.

So please, for fuck's sake, stop copy+pasting most or ALL of your panels. It's heart breaking. That comic with the batteries where literally the only difference across all 4 panels was expressions- not even moving the controller- was painful to look at.

Keep the backgrounds, that's fine, whatever. You can even keep the same rigid, statis poses, but at least draw them moving their arms, or turning their heads or SOMETHING other than just changing their expressions.

You're better than this. Or at least, I like to think you are.

This, variation and contrast is key. Without it he could have done it all in two panels.

Unless you're one of those irritating unlikeable people who pace around and can't keep their hands still when they talk, there's not going to be any variation in the panels in the short time they take to say those lines.

A 90 minute movie on only two tapes!?!?!?
HOW DO THEY DO IT?

>British people
>Moving a muscle whilst talking

How uncouth!

>what is MontyPython

Sorted.

I don't know if this made it into the q&a podcast thing you are going to do or if you've even recorded that yet, but what's the first comic book you remember picking up and reading? Same for video games what's the earliest you remember playing? Spy vs Spy?

First comic strip was probably Garfield.
First comic BOOK was most likely Tintin, though, around the same time, picked up a couple of issues of things like Uncle Scrooge and the kid-friendly version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Can't remember which came first.
First video game was either Scramble (C64) or a knock-off of it. I was crap at it. The concept of using one button to fire and a different button to drop bombs was too advanced for my tiny brain.

>the amount of copy + pasting is even clearer than before

ok?

Copy/pasting details that I want to repeat across panels is something I have done since the very first strip. It is not something I feel I need to apologise for and is a method I will continue to use.
We're 1000+ strips in, now. If you've stuck with it so far, it's either not as an offensive a practice as you're suggesting it to be and you're just looking for something to bitch about, or you register things very, very slowly.

That sounds like a cop out, you are skilled enough that you don't need to rely on copy pasting. You certainly don't do that for some of your other work, so why here?

Time constraints are a thing. Are you one of those people who say artists are slacking if they have the time to draw fanart and other personal stuff?

I love how these internet art critics word things like they're doing people a favor and get so offended when their advice is rejected.

The Cheat's playing something on a laserdisc!

And a bunch of whiners are butthurted because that strip make them feel old and fussy.

Whatever happened to the laserdisc?

I was frankly just airing a grievance I have with JJ. Like I said, I'm no fan of him or his work, and I've honestly only read a scant few strips from people posting it here on Sup Forums and elsewhere, so I didn't know that it's apparently just a thing he does.

I'm satisfied just knowing he doesn't give a fuck. Better than trying to deflect it with some excuse like time constraints (it's a B&W comic with minimal backgrounds and simple shading, it doesn't take long to make WITHOUT copy+pasting). I still don't approve obviously, but eh, now I know that the criticism isn't worth making, and I can be off happily knowing that I'll probably just never be much into his work. He's not gonna lose sleep over some user's disapproval, that much I know.

Nobody gives a fuck about what you 'approve' of. That's another point I wanted to bring up.

Only if their personal drawings take priority over the art they do for a living and then they make excuses instead of admitting they were just playing Zelda 24/7.
That doesn't apply in this situation, though.

Jeez, you guys are hating on Jolly Jack now?
His How To Plays were one of the first webcomics I ever read, and they still hold up.
Plus he makes money off commissions (or did? It's been a while) so you're litetally complainong about free entertainment someone put effort into. Even if it's not your kind of humor that's no reason to attack someone.

I get Dobson, he's trivializing someone's loss and acting better than people, but this guy's just doing a comic.

I guess there really isn't much to talk about besides going into the porn that JJ makes. No one really cares about the lore/mythology that SA has within it.

I'm excited in every sense of the word, for his to continue his visual novel pc game since he put a demo out. (Patreon only I think)

Weren't there any villains who survived their past adventures? It's been a while.

that news to me, and no doubt the majority of the people here

I honestly cannot remember. I remember there being some chick is not photogenic, and that Art (being an artist) had the uncanny ability to destroy any and all technology he touched. A sort of Midas touch so to speak. I don't remember if they really cured it or if it just stopped being an issue for the sake of dropping that plot line.

It may have been in relation to a robot uprising/aliens.

Hey, pervs pay shitloads. Can't blame him for that.
