I'm not sure that Villeneuve is the greatest living director, but his Blade Runner 2049 is without question the best sci-fi of this generation.

Tarr, Haneke and Andersson would like to have a word with you...

Only Dennis can save Star Wars.

>equating Hackneke with Tarr and Andersson
fuck off

also Tarr retired so he might as well be dead

watch more movies

Tell me a better sci fi film of recent times

he should cast a transgender as Paul. It would fit the character and piss off Sup Forums.

redditors - shit flick
sicario - kino
arrival - shit flick
2049 - semi-kino

how can one director go o hot and cold?

Enemy is his best movie. Pure kino

it was either filmmaker or school shooter

he decided to kill cinema instead of people, a noble choice

Not him but picrelated. Definitely not good in the same way as blade runner is good, but regardless I find it to be the best movie of this decade so far.

>wraps the shot
>fistbumps Tarantino
>asks Deakins to "make it more interesting in the next one"
>consults industry statistics to see if the best shades of orange and teal haven't changed from yesterday
>schedules an AMA on reddit
>asks the PR tram to wrap up photographing the props, while on the phone with the special effects studio
>has lunch and afterwards prays to an alter of Christopher Nolan
>wonders if "kino" is a compliment or a criticism
>brainstorms ways to appeal to teenagers
>allows Harrison Ford to wear an old t-shirt because he doesn't want to get in a confrontation, as his accent comes out too much when he yells and makes him insecure
>checks in with his doctor whether or not his fecal sample was brown or green
>worries in hindsight if he should have graded Sicario more aggressively orange
>has a minor breakdown thinking of what he left behind in Quebec, but wipes the tears with a check and carries on
>searches up his name + "arthouse" and is happy to see the number of hits increase from last week
>goes for dinner and humors the execs, gets anxious when they mention box office numbers
>goes to bed and dreams about having a Spielberg-assembly line on set 24/7
Truly based, an auteurs auteur, the Christopher Nolan of our generation.

Excuse me?

Villeneuve manufactures films for the low-brow audience who favor cheap ideals of entertainment over artistic merit. His films have just enough stylized gimmickry (the putrid, flat digital, the piss-filters aka grading, the hot-topic cinematographers, etc) to pass off as something above-average to the average moviegoer, from which such people can pat themselves on the back for having sat through their idea of cinema. But his films amount to cheap consumption and are dishonest. You can hear it in his voice, when he talks about, for example, the original Blade Runner and how he first saw it in cinema and how it left such an impression on him all these years later. And of course he's so damn honored and privileged to get to work on the sequel, and to have Scott's blessing in doing so. But it's all inauthentic - he's just happy to have his big break and get to piggy back off the success of greater works. His only sincere actions are those in regards to his native province of Quebec, Canada - because he cannot forget the few honest moments he had back there as he was breaking into the industry, before he had succumbed to Hollywood.

arrival was shit but i seriously doubt anyone could have redeemed that script, excited for his interpretation of dune provided he finds someone who knows how to write dialogue
