Jar Jar is annoying and it would have helped and if Anakin was a little older but the cast is good, the pod race is great, lightsaber duels are great and their are so many new concepts and designs.
If the original movies didnt exist, would this get more love?
Honestly it's a mostly fine installment. My only complaint would be how Anakin was somehow instrumental in accidentally destroying the droid ship.
Landon Martinez
I was a 16yo kid, why wouldn't i have? I like the silent antagonist, new lightsaber type, and his DDR moveset. EU expanded his character, and look how that went. Fucking spider legs.
Hudson Fisher
I recently rewatched it with a friend who had never seen Star Wars and what jumped out at me was just how little of a shit Anakin's mom gave about him. It was a little dark, actually. Not even his own mother ever loved him.
Hunter Diaz
> midichlorians
Its isnt the bad. Its been canon since 77. I would have liked it more if he said they werent bilogical but spiritual.
> JarJar
I cant deny this. It would have been better if he stayed on naboo and had a little more nobility instead of being a cartoon character.
> babby vader
Again, he hsould have been older at least Padmes age. I think Jake Lloyd did a good job considering. It does take a lot to sell the stilted dialogue.
> "Weeee"
That is annoying.
Honestly, i think these things have just become sticking points for those who lambast the movie. Its no more a mess than The Fifth Element. It was marketed for kids and from what i remember, most kids loved the new series. It was only 'muh childhood' manbabies who seemed to moan and complain because their kiddy sci fi adventure hadnt grown up with them. Rogue One is an awful film and exactly what they would have gotten.
Jeremiah Smith
ok as a 16yo i get it
Luis Bennett
>Le prequels are good meme
Jordan Hill
I just rewatched the entire PT after watching Clone Wars 2003 and 2008, and the cartoons completely transform them, especially Episode 3, into top tier kino equal to the OT. That said Episode 1 is the worst prequel.
Connor Wright
this and only this, dubs even confirming. That's why they paid RLM to do the infamous plinkett reviews that became a trend out of the blue, and why their TLJ "review" was so cringy since they just couldn't say too much against their former boss.
Lucas Wilson
I actually thought the actress did a good job and we should have seen more of her in the sequels before she died. That being said, i think she and her son were sold into slavery because she lost a gambling debt.
Liam Jenkins
Midichlorians are literally mitochondria except with cool powers. >tiny beings that evolved to live inside our cells and have their own DNA and everything
Jack Taylor
Nah, Clones is the most turgid
Julian Cooper
i didnt like the originals that much either it was too confusing for me and i mixed the 2 universes or should i say, before and after jedi goes evil Only star wars related story i genuinely liked was with Kyle Katarn but that has little to do with movies. Even the antagonist was far more badass than the tard gayder or the jew bankers in the movies.
Dominic Wright
It isn't though. Clones is much more interesting and has a more serious tone.
Noah Bell
>has a more serious tone
Im rewatching them now, so maybe i will have a diffrent opinion. I just remember it not being that visually varied and needlessly dank.
Adrian Jenkins
I'm not lambasting the film, it's just it was the biggest hype of my generation, and we were a bit disappointed. Surprised about R1 though, i really liked that and don't understand the hate.
Xavier Young
It's mainly because all the kiddy stuff that came from Anakin being a kid in Episode I is absent.
Dominic Ortiz
I can actually justify the concept of Midichlorians as a product of the Jedi Order's arrogance. They think they have figured out exactly what the Force is to a scientific degree, but fail to grasp the true meaning. They are shown to be wrong about many things throughout the PT: the prophecy, their inability to uncover Sheev's plot, Jocasta Nu's arrogant reply to Obi-wan when Kamino isn't in the archives. Midichlorians are just one more thing they got wrong.
Jackson Miller
Huh, makes sense. Kind of like how back in the day they thought the heart is the seat of the human soul.
Aiden Smith
I can understand why you would be disappointed. The character arent as immediately relatable as Luke, Han and Leia.
It was my introduction to the series (i actually had the colouring books and game before i saw the movie). I think there are a lot of cool concepts and ideas in te prequels that keep them in your mind and make you want to rewatch them even though you have problems with them.
I saw The Force Awakens in the theatre and i have had no reason to watch it again.
James Ramirez
we don't get to see the people of Naboo (besides the elite) even though they're the center of the story, their home is invaded by weird greedy creatures, it would have added so much depth if we got to know them
other than that it's pretty good. likable characters, a great story, lots of creativity, it's definitely a more valuable piece of work than ANH(2) and TLJ
Owen Fisher
> (i actually had the colouring books and game before i saw the movie)
Did anyone else have this?
Leo Gonzalez
I think it got a lot of hate because of all the bullshit it introduced into the Star Wars universe with obnoxious characters. An easy thing to forget is that this was before the sequel trilogy. One of the biggest problems of Episode I wasn't Jar Jar and it wasn't midichlorians. It was canonizing the Sith. I wanted to put this in the now-defunct "rule of two" thread which I couldn't post in because Sup Forums was borked, but one of the BIGGEST missteps of the Prequel Trilogy is canonizing the "evil Jedi counterpart" rather than the amorphous "the dark side of the Force" from OT. Like in another thread, I think that it would've worked better if the Sith were not this long-standing force that the Jedi fought against but rather "followers of Palpatine". >it still would've worked for "Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith" as well as Dooku >the sequel trilogy wouldn't have to deal with the baggage created by the prequel trilogy >the entire story of the Sith would've been wrapped up in Episodes 1-6 due Palpatine's life and death >would've opened up the idea of morally-ambiguous Force users >breaks down the Jedi being "always good" idea because their shit led to Anakin going down the path of the Dark Side
John Morgan
You didnt see much of Padmes kingdom either. The underwater scenes are way more visually interesting as opposed to having it set on something like a Wookie homeworld but i think Jar Jar was the key to selling them and he was too goofy.
Angel Myers
>pretending the prequels are le epic kino pleb filter just to spite Disney >even though they now profit from the property >reddit is gonna be so mad xD Has anyone ever told you that you don't have to like Star Wars?
Charles Adams
You really need to watch Red Letter Media's Plinkett shoes. So funny. You will LOL. But also quite informative and insightful.
Jaxon Fisher
I think George should have just did his sequel trilogy and worked with someone to produce a novel or animated series which tells you the backstory of the prequels.
I dont know if you could done something like The Godfather 2 with one of the sequels and contrast Luke and Anakin.
Jack Perez
No amount of Sup Forums memery will make me like the prequels.
Daniel Flores
>Its really good no no man it is not 'good' unless you literally have never seen another movie in your life and even then you'd still feel like something is off and movies kind of suck as you watch it youtube.com/watch?v=FxKtZmQgxrI
Xavier Sullivan
Seen it.
I had already avoided watching them since childhood and had come to believe many of things said of them. I just don't think the criticisms hold that much water.
Like RLM's complaint that there wasnt a character like Luke you could immediately relate to. The Force Awakens did that and it still wasnt intersting. The prequels are more like plays with a group characters plotting against each other and discovering each others secrets.
Isaiah Ross
> linking a video to prove a point
why is this allowed. its just as bad as those who post books and tell you that you have to have read it before you can speak to them.
it just tells me you have no confidence in your opinions and rely on other people to assert them.
Andrew Sanchez
They watched a video on youtube of a guy saying "han solo is a better character than qui-gon-jinn, therefore phantom menace is bad".
John Bennett
The Phantom Menace is utter shit. But I liked the world designs and there was some beautiful scenery in it. At least it actually feels like Star Wars to me compared to the Disney crap.
Hunter Gonzalez
> linking a video to prove a point I'm not going to type out why episode I sucks, it's been said a billion times the OP can watch that fat man explain why, instead.
Christian Barnes
> trusting someone who only watches 80s nostalgia films and trash
sure
Brody Brown
who cares what he did before every single one of his points stands and has never been refuted
Sebastian Ortiz
oh and I had those opinions waaaay before that video was made as did anyone who knows the first thing about film plinkett just made an entertaining video about it and introduced those opinions to the plebs
Kayden Cruz
i dont need confirmation to know if i like or dislike a movie
Dylan Sanders
your feelings about it don't matter i like it too but it's shit
Josiah Perry
Whether you like the prequels or not, you can see that these movies are the manifestation of the dreams of one man. You can see passion and that there was a genuine vision ( at least to some degree ). Lucas may not be good with dialogue etc. but he certainly can make up good stories.
However the only thing i can see in the sequels is a bunch of suits including Kathleen Kennedy, sitting on a round table discussing how to maximize their Profit, milk the series to death and how to push their shitty political agenda.
Hunter Jenkins
>shitty opinion detected
Kayden Russell
I thought you had to search your feelings to know it to be true?
Sebastian Brown
Trips of truth. Quite good song for something so silly though
Kevin Carter
I am actually quite saddened that we will never see Lucas's sequel trilogy.
I hope he writes a novel series or something to lay out his original vision. I guess Disney has the power to block him though.
Lincoln Lewis
George=/ourguy/
Samuel Harris
How much did the mouse pay you to write that?
Ayden White
Btw, was it ever discussed in the EU who Anakins father was?
Cameron Reed
Were you fucking alive during the prequels? It was marketed on EVERYTHING. Lucas is as big of a Jew as Disney.
Hudson Hughes
These people always expose themselves as being more racist or aware of stereotypes than the people they criticise.
Samuel Moore
It’s not about the marketing user... Of course their was marketing fucking everywhere for the most anticipated movie. It’s about the movies themselves
Jayden White
See
Josiah Gomez
That thing where they're so fucking racist or sexist they put everything through a checklist before liking it.
Jeremiah Parker
It’s revisionist, contrarian history. If you ever browse Sup Forums you see this exact fucking circle with video game sequels, except with Star Wars it’s spread out over the trilogies since they really are just one story. Not saying Disney Wars are good, because they’re definitely not, but them being shit does not retroactively make the prequels fucking good. And it’s hard to tell how much of it is nostalgia welling up after years of popularized prequel hate, contrarianism, trolling, and actual retardation
Jaxon Torres
I never said the prequels were kino But here have a (you), out of pity
Christian Gutierrez
>"You can see passion" >Lucas sitting around in his director's chair looking bored >"and that there was a genuine vision" >everything good about star wars was suggested to lucas by a third party (usually his friends and wife)
William Ramirez
Just rewatched the Prequel trilogy after the originals about a week ago. TPM is actually a really solid film. Jar Jar is still terrible/overused and a few of Anakin's lines feel unnatural and jarring according to the situation (i.e. the Starfighter scenes), but I was impressed with the rest of it. The aforementioned stuff is short, mostly and can easily be ignored, at least for me. I enjoyed every other main and supporting performance. Soundtrack is one of the best in the series. The podracing direction is excellent, no music, minimal dialogue and none from Anakin. It feels very focused and intense. Great layered antagonists with the stooge Trade Federation leaders, the threatening henchman in Darth Maul and the mastermind Sidious. And the final climax scene is mostly good, between the three different parties. It kinda feels like too much of a halt in momentum when everyone gets captured/stalled/etc. for a moment, but the lightsaber duel with Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan/Maul is all top tier.
Jack Robinson
If anything, the only Disney shilling happening is trying to convince you that the prequels are good.
Now make sure to see Jango Fett: a Star Wars Story in theaters 2024!
Ian Lewis
>has never been refuted Doubtful
Oliver Evans
>Soundtrack is one of the best in the series
Thats one thing people dont understand. George has always been on point for what the music should sound like. John Williams usually followed his temp track.
You can see the diffrence with the new films; how Williams doesnt have a solid guide and just reiterates what has already been established.
Julian Powell
>Lucas gave music pointers to Williams just LOL That's not why ST music sucks jfc ST music sucks because Williams isn't composing it. He's having interns do it now.
Christopher Brooks
I Really hate stupid Star Wars. No bait, I just really hate how entitled and stupid you are about a billion dollar marketing franchise meant for kids. The Plinkett reviews were the best thing to happen to Star Wars since the Return of the Jedi.
Dylan Hall
Best of the prequels for sure.
Samuel Rogers
>Star Wars is for ki-
Bentley Sullivan
I dont think anyone with a brain tries to argue that the prequels were amazing as movies. However, they were still good star wars. People could hate jar jar all they wanted but not a single neckbeard genuinely hated mace windu, droidekas or the trade federation. The prequels added an enormous amount of meat to the star wars universe, something that the sequel trilogy has absolutely and utterly failed at. The sequel trilogy is almost like a soulless fanfiction trying to steal as much as possible from the original trilogy while trying to claim its something new. Name literally one thing from the ST that has been new and exciting that wasnt Kylo's lightsaber or fucking porgs. People are desperate for something new and instead we have a reskinned rebels vs empire with purple haired women getting shit done and superman leia
Aiden Allen
>just LOL
Its true
These are some of the temp tracks used by Lucas during the cutting of New Hope:
The bit that starts at 0:58 was stolen from kingdom hearts
Joshua Reyes
* PM
Thomas Allen
Nice trips
Isaac Cox
* quads
Connor Ortiz
>The bit that starts at 0:58 was stolen from kingdom hearts TPM released in 99. Kindom Hearts released like 6 years later, user.
Thomas Cruz
Personally, I dislike it for the simple fact that it was boring as hell. Aside from Jar Jar being a fuck, the lack of engagement from the start of the movie to the end is what really makes me hate this movie. It feels like the movie has the beginning cut and starts from a random place.
Not to mention, there's some retarded shit like force running and shit like that.
Another thing i really disliked was the sets. For years i thought that they pretty much abandoned the practical sets. Let that sink in. George is so next level shit, that he made his practical sets and miniatures look like cgi garbage. Even with this knowledge it still looks fake as shit.
Only real exiting thing was the final fight, but if i recall they cut between a lot of fights, which really ruins it.
tl;dr >Boring as fuck. >Looks like shit >Jar jar is stupid, but least of the problems >Stupid shit like Force run >Feels like someone accidentally cut the beginning of the movie >boring
Asher Cooper
I'd like to see you do better, negative nancy
Aaron Jones
>Reddit Letter Media
Oliver Lewis
Wait, its not called re....oh, I see what you did. You tried to make it seem like red letter media are shit because they raped the things you stupidly like. Oh.
Juan Hughes
>Now make sure to see Jango Fett: a Star Wars Story in theaters 2024! >Implying there's anything fucking wrong with that
Jose Ramirez
Yeah, it'll be great seeing him as a anti-hero who dindu nuthin' and had a just cause to hunt down Han and want really a bad guy after all. More toys!
Jonathan Wilson
You're talking about Boba not Jango. Also kill yourself faggot.
Chase Phillips
I think this is the main point. I don't really care for the prequels themselves, but all the lore it added produced some amazing video games, comics, and series (CW). Lucas gave everyone the keys to this amazing universe and let people dig into it and have fun with the lore, whereas Disney is just bringing out the same 5 things saying "remember this???"
Adam Wilson
Based Jango poster incinerating utter moron
Easton Morales
I fucked up
Owen Green
it literally makes no difference you pedantic autist, caring this hard about star wars means you're a waste of a human
Joseph Parker
best moment/s from each film?
Brayden Gray
Every single moment with Sheev.
Nathan Cooper
why did he 360?
Connor Gray
For me it goes like this
>Battle of Naboo, all 3 conflicts like the space battle, the ground battle, and the Jedi/Sith deul >Battle of Geonosis, the whole thing even the Colosseum >The space battle over Coruscant
Yeah, I like space opera battles.
Ryder Reyes
Was killing Qui-Gon a mistake?
Christopher Gutierrez
Nah, he served his purpose which his death is one of many things that turns Anakin towards the dark side.
Josiah Perez
It's 2 fucking hours of nothing. It sucks. It's a boring movie.
Josiah Scott
I like that you hear his voice after Anakin attacks the sandpeople
Blake Green
The prequels were freaking great and extremely enjoyable to watch. Manchildren who disliked shouldn't be taken seriously at all.
Aaron Sanders
only people that dislike them are just clinging onto the OT
