how can this be a flop when it LITERALLY made back 4x its budget. LITERALLY. 400%.
you people are so salty, its not SW's fault that redditrunner 2049 bombed

Stretch those numbers shill! Dance for the peanuts!
>250 million production budget
>250-300 million marketing
>40% of box office goes to cinemas
It made 4 billion $?
>not factoring in an obscene marketing budget
Please don't bully the economiclets.
It isn't a flop, it's still going to make a profit of $400+ million, it's just that in comparison to TFA it looks like a huge decline, it's more that TFA overperformed because it was basically a cultural event while TLJ was just *another* Star Wars movie.
Sup Forums just wants anything it hates to flop, some people here tried to pretend TFA was a flop because it grossed ONLY $2 billion
It may have made its money but also ostracized half of its built-in, guaranteed fan base. Most of which who won’t buy tickets for ep IX, not to mention the solo movie.
>caring about revenues over quality
never gonna make it
Imagine making threads daily defending a bad movie made by a Jew-owned, feminist run mutli-billion dollar conglomerate, FOR FREE, over some perceived personal attack. Imagine being so flustered that others may not share your opinion that you drag in an entirely different film in a pathetic attempt to compare/contrast. Imagine being such a cuck that you willfully spend your time slurping mouse dick rather than watching it, forming your opinion, and moving the fuck on with your life.
Yes, faggot OP. It is US who are salty. Be sure to stay hydrated, those mental gymnastics must be tiring...
I caught this movie in IMAX with my family of 5.
We really enjoyed it, the visuals and sounds are great! kids had a blast. Its a Serious movie but there are lots of laugh out loud moments as well.
10/10 will recommend, its so good, multiple viewings wouldn't be an odd thing!
TLJ opening weekend numbers were only 10% less than TFA's. TFA didn't overperform, the industry was expecting at least 1.9 billion for TLJ and it fell 600 million short. TLJ is a disaster
Wasn't obscene. Considering how much of the media is owned/co-owned by Disney plus TLJ being pushed less than TFA it was probably quite modest. Also, marketing for lunchboxes and shit like that is essentially marketing for the movie, except it's the companies making that garbage that pay for it, not Disney.
I can't imagine they're not worried about the China situation though.
...
...
It was obscene though, they were showing ads for this movie AFTER it was released in my country. I've never seen that before, not even TFA.
>the industry was expecting at least 1.9 billion
>one guy is the entire industry
I'm sure Disney's internal projections were probably closer to $1.5 billion, so yeah, it fell short, but it's not this huge disaster. It's not even BvS level of underperforming.
None of these movies are technically making profit until they make back the 4 billion they spent on Star Wars
The box office in general is in a 15 year slump
And it pissed off China with the diversity hook up i think
If the industry was expecting 1.9 billion, I guarantee you Disney was selling this movie to their shareholders as a +2 billion movie. It opened like a +2 billion movie too. It was just terrible and then had the biggest drop ever, the drop was almost as big as BvS opening weekend now that you mention it, so yeah it was a huge disaster. As bad as BvS or worse, let's see how Solo does now
>Wasn't obscene. Considering how much of the media is owned/co-owned by Disney
You don't understand how companies work user.
You still pay those companies even if you own them.
>those digits.
It's nice how you say it's for free, I think it is comparable to shareblue and ctr targeting/pol/, this place is ripe for paid shilling.
>As bad as BvS or worse
Batman v. Superman cost as much money as TLJ and it didn't even crack $900 million, and that movie STILL made $100 million in profit based on all estimations.
/thread
Why does every thread saying the Last Jedi was a success always mention Blade Runner in a negative way
Merchandise user. Lucas literally invented it. Disney might have recouped that $4B with TFA box office, bluray and merch. If not, they came pretty close. After R1 it's surely all profit.
You don't understand how Hollywood accounting works user (or mass media in general). Google the balance sheet of some Harry Potter movie (Goblet I think), it leaked some years back and clearly showed how full of shit studios were when it comes to marketing costs. Basically, LucasArts can claim they paid eleventy billion to ABC for marketing the movie and claim it as an expense. In reality, no money is spent, people over at ABC are employees who get paid the same whatever press junket they go to and are probably glad they don't have to come up with any ideas for content, just pump out whatever LucasArts marketing dept wants them to and get an added bonus of rubbing shoulders with the stars.
Also, if you want to make SW toys, you pay LucasArts for licensing (money goes to Disney), you pay ABC for adverts (money goes to Disney) and all of that is marketing for the movie that Disney makes money on. And if the toys don't sell, guess what, Disney will blame it on you.
Marvel movies work the exact same way and I can only imagine what's it gonna be like after the Fox merger.
Disney stock looks decent though, guess we'll see after Q1 report. Although the Fox stuff is vastly more important for the shareholders than one movie, even a big one.
Agreed. But that makes OP seem even more incompetent. Could you fathom spending your days endlessly propping up some narrative; a narrative agendized by clickbait articles, pop culture talking-heads, and Twitter cancer, all in the defense of literal capitalist juggernaut known for their soullessness, creative bankruptcy and blatant contempt for their fanbase. Doing this for free, feeling you're somehow "fighting the good fight," out of some perceived obligation to a 4 decades old product that, in it's current form, is fundamentally different in every way minus the fanwank beats.
All's I'm sayin' is if it were a shill that would make more sense. OP is likely just some pathetic cuckold who's allowing brand loyalty (pfft) to determine his opinion. If you're going to swallow a sour dick at least pad your wallet.
because it pisses you losers off
there have been threads where BR is in positive and SW in negative
>OP is likely just some pathetic cuckold who's allowing brand loyalty (pfft) to determine his opinion
Or he just enjoys pissing off Sup Forums because its swamped by Gen Z reddit vermin who infested the entire fucking website and ruined it and it's just desserts to irritate them by defending movies they hate.
>40% of box office goes to cinemas
Only in America.
Overseas had around 50%
Disney shills are mad that The Last Jedi is underperforming catastrophically and about to get BTFO in the Oscars by based Dennis. It's sad really
>Merchandise
>1$ on clearance toys
ayy
I saw Star Wars ads everywhere I looked at the store, the internet, and TV. When watching a College Football BCS game, there was two Star Wars commercial every break. TLJ is the most marketed movie I have ever seen.
Likely true. Given that I only see a few responses like mine and most are "REEEEEEEEE TLJ IS CANCER!!!!!" sorta affirms your point. But this is Sup Forums: for every blatant troll farming (You)'s there are at least a half a dozen sincere faggots legitimately buttmad that others could somehow have varying opinions. Then again, there's autists on both sides of the argument.
shut up. You know they gonna buy tickets to next move. It's not like there's gonna be anything better

This is the most damage controlled Star Wars movie I've seen since any of the Prequels. The Disney shills are in desperation mode, and it's hilarious what lengths they'll go to. I haven't seen this much shilling since Hillary's failed campaign.
No amount of self-reassurance will EVER "fix" this movie. It was a complete abomination, and the defenders know that deep down in their hearts.
Disney's nu-Wars was made to pander to SJWs/baizuo and it is this very pandering that will ultimately destroy the franchise at some point in the near future. Deal with it.

>indictation
I don't care how much it made. Movie was shit.
This but unironically
Keep in mind that WB didn't pay $4 billion just for the IP.

This
>I bought 10 of each figurines, it only costed me $150
>Who's a good boy?
Bvs was projecting to cross 1bilion, but it made 800k+ instead. The situation is similar actually.
>Merchandise
It is doing very poorly actually.
The Disney shareholders consider it a flop for reasons they certainly know better than yourself, so your question is redundant as is your chimpout.
Disney decided to insult the core audience of Star Wars, meaning that the only audience providing long-term subscription monetary support (because males have this bad habbit of being extremist about their hobbies) is gone, meaning the brand will be kicking the bucket in the long-term since women differentiate from men in that they don't have long-term investments in anything unrelated to directly affecting their physical appearance unless it is romance novels or erotic novels.
So substituting subscription audience with one-term audience is pretty much a marketing 101 and management 101 fuckup in an age where entertainment is over-saturated with competition and brands are increasingly depending on a core audience of long-term fanatics who assure profits.
Gen Z reddit vermin loves TLJ, fag
oh look... is this guy again.
>1.9 billion easy
>bought a $150 Daenerys figure

reminder that disney still has not disclosed the actual budget for TLJ
