The makeover made it painfully obvious of how badly this movie pandered to simplistic mainstream sensibilities even when trying to assert the characters as individuals. See, you missed it. Alison was never the "weird goth chick" she didn't even really have any hobbies. I think people never got that she was wearing a mask as both. Both the introverted weird girl and as the make over. They're both images and what people see. That some people need to see something one way to appreciate it. That image can be changed, that a look doesn't define a person. She doesn't have a closet full of pink dresses, but at the end of the day, was she going to live life in her mask? It helped her grow as a person and we don't know what her character will dress/look like moving forward.
