Why is it that most of the audience missed the entire point of Alison's character and makeover? Were they too caught up in having a quirky faux goth waifu?
Why is it that most of the audience missed the entire point of Alison's character and makeover...
...
Has a character ever been ruined worse?
She is so disgusting though with her antics. Also did that one bully and popular girl fuck? And what did they mean to say with the nerd not getting a girl?
I mean how bad is it really if a superficial makeover is all it takes to ruin the character?
Also the bully would be hit so hard by the media in modern day, he used some down-right abusive manipulation. But I guess everyone chatted and by the end knew eachother at the core.
|What a terrible movie. Its like watching some shitty theater play with the cast all playing people that are suppose to be half their age.
I cant get that retarded picture out of my mind of that 1.90 meters "punk" with those giant boots or whatever looking like a 35 year old hobo ex wrestler.
Worst scene in the movie.
The makeover made it painfully obvious of how badly this movie pandered to simplistic mainstream sensibilities even when trying to assert the characters as individuals. Kind of like saying “you guys are different from each other and the only way you can overcome the social discomfort that comes with that is to homologate your personalities towards some vague and inoffensive commonalities”.
The moral of the movie was basically “play to the lowest common denominators or else you’re anti-social”

See, you missed it. Alison was never the "weird goth chick" she didn't even really have any hobbies. She just wore black clothing and did weird shit for attention (sandwitch scene) just for attenton because she got none at home. It's the same reaosn whys he packed her bag every day so somebody would notice, but she would never actually do it.
She was a normie.
OK, so what was the point, then?
She was an insecure attentionwhore. Notice how at the end the guy doesn't say "ur so hot now!" but rather "I can see your face". She was hiding her baggage behind her baggy clothes and hair and dirtiness but secretly wanted someone to give her attention, that's why she dumped her bag out to all of them.
>normie projecting
Ironic since you're "le quirky goth waifu like le quirky incel me" projecting onto her.
literally how
the only reason why you have a problem with the makeover scene is because she stopped looking like a slut with daddy issues/Stoya.
I got that about her, but the makeover was Claire's idea and she grudgingly went along with it. It seemed more like wanting to be friendly with Claire because it was mutual at that point--claire wanted to be friends with her too--than it being the attention whore thing like the sandwich and bag
>homologate your personalities towards some vague and inoffensive commonalities
i am also a very smart boy who knows lots of words
>Socially awkward girl
>Still ends up with a Chad
God....It was a 80 movie. The makeover just changed her to fit on the ideal of beauty of the 80s. Today we have different standards so its easy to miss the point.
Lmao this post
You can always find the incel by them applying what they read on “The Red Pill” reddit to reach any sort of conclusion
I think people never got that she was wearing a mask as both. Both the introverted weird girl and as the make over. They're both images and what people see. That some people need to see something one way to appreciate it. That image can be changed, that a look doesn't define a person. She doesn't have a closet full of pink dresses, but at the end of the day, was she going to live life in her mask? It helped her grow as a person and we don't know what her character will dress/look like moving forward. The make over was her experimenting, it's not a finale solution, it's having fun and getting attention from people they always ignored her.
You now realize that Alison was one of those normie girls who got into Tumblr and Grunge fashion at 17 and pretended to be mentally unstable and then dropped it all by 18.
>bully literally threatens to rape the popular chick
>popular chick goes out with him anyway
>girl completely changes her appearance and personality to get with the sports guy
>nerd gets manipulated into doing everyone's work and is immediately left alone again
at least it was realistic I guess
projecting 101
this is a good ending. The whole point is that she is trying to express herself while your faggot opinions are irrelvent. She only wore that goth shit because she was trying to avoid attention, but this is how she would have rather been all along.
BASED DIGITS OF TRUTH
>me no like Above-Middle-School Level Reader. Him use big wordses
Emilio Estevez literally explains it during the film you autist lol, why are you even here?
your head is up your ass if you think this
>boo hoo! my manic pixie dream girl waifu was RUINED!
could you be any more reddit?
perhaps i have spent too much time trying to homologate my personality with those of the unwashed plebeians
>My blockbuster coming of age 80s pop movie doesn’t blandly pander to lowest common denominator
Guess I see why you didn’t write anything past an insult.
probably to avoid getting owned by your extreme logic and rationality
I remember when I thought not using punctuation and capitalization made me come off as cool and aloof to internet people! Good times.
>express herself
Letting rich sushi bitch give her a makeover in her own image.
This. She isn't trying to please edge emo faggots. She wasn't before and she isn't at the end.
>come off as cool and aloof
... or maybe it just takes less effort? lol
...
I remember when redditards came on Sup Forums to police peoples punctuation. I’m so glad they stopped doing that... oh wait
This is suprisingly accurate
i can't tell whether this is retarded or genius
>Sup Forums is the bully
>Rettid is the "smart guy"
I am now reconsidering my opinion on the movie
Sup Forums got the Twitter hottie, facebook is stuck with tumblr bitch, and then there is Reddit
oh shit, noel fielding made a convincing woman back in the day
every time
...
John wasn't a bully
...
WRRONG. Sup Forums, not Reddit, point out the flaws. They are the edgelords
reddit still gets the girl though
fixed
...
change facebook and reddit and you've got it.
yea i can see it

Remember that Over the Edge is the superior teen movie by every measure
100% agree
>tfw the wimpy nerd kid didn't get a waifu
>just like in real life
God hates us all
That's pretty realistic though. When a guy doesn't talk to anyone he's socially awkward and weird. When a girl doesn't she's shy.
This one works.
>Sup Forums talks mean game
>cowers when confronted IRL by a bigger dog
Scathing commentary.
The movie is about these kids being simplistic stereotypes. They change in a smaller, intimate setting into (slightly) more complete people. The characters wonder whether the transformation they experienced over the weekend will persist. Will they be friends the next week? Will they even say hello? The ending song even underlines this question. The film leaves this unanswered.
John Hughs understood the fundamental truth that most 8 year olds have more stable and complex personalities than teenagers. IRL teenagers are simple stereotypes. Hormones just fuck you
