This

If you don't think Miami Vice and Blackhat are amongst the best films Mann ever made then you are not a Mann fan.

>manhunter that low
>MUH cigarettes that high
>The keep not maximum patrician
contrarian ranking

If you don't have Collateral and Heat at the top of your list, kys yourself.

For me:

Heat
Public Enemies
Theif
Collateral
Miami Vice
The Insider
Blackhat

Blackhat was serious hurt by bad pacing. Miami Vice is seriously raised in my book by unparalleled atmosphere.

>Collateral below Public Enemies

I agree with this mostly, but Miami Vice was pretty good for a TV show pilot in 1984. Great aesthetics, great music, average acting.

>tfw wanting Miami Vice sequel

Vin Diesel said last year (or the year before) that he wants to make a new MV TV show. No idea what it would be about.

They could've made a decent sequel series with Josh Holloway in the late 2000s and have him play the role of Sonny's son who becomes a vice cop just like his dad.

>Val Kilmer's career is fucked
Feels bad man.

we really need to tie VD and The Rock hands behind their backs and lock them away forever so they will stop touching things

This is objective
1. Heat
2. The Insider
3. Thief
4. The Last of the Mohicans
5. Manhunter
6. Miami Vice
7. Collateral
8. Ali
9. Blackhat
10. Public Enemies
11. The Keep

Been putting off Collateral for so long because I just can't stand Jamie Foxx. Tell me TV am I missing out much?

>Heat
>Collateral
>Manhunter
>Miami Vice
>The Keep
>BlackHat
>Thief
>Public Enemies
>Last of the Mohicans

People in this thread thinking Miami Vice is good.

I'm as big of a Mann fan as anyone, but Miami Vice was like someone imitating Michael Mann. it was laughable

What happened?

>the insider is shit
shit taste detected

the Keep was great. Fucking losers in this thread.

it's good
the ending is an asspull though
Jamie Foxx's character is actually good imo up until near the ending

Why can't I watch Heat? I bought it on Blu Ray and I keep getting bored and turning it off an hour in. I love Manhunter, and I can watch the most slow goddamn movies and be totally engrossed, like Barry Lyndon. But for some reason I can't enjoy Heat. I want to though. What am I doing wrong?

>I keep getting bored and turning it off an hour in
wow, i can't imagine how you could be bored by this movie. now miami vice, that was a snooze fest

Manhunter is a masterpiece and The Keep has an amazing vibe to it. literally nothing like it.

Mann is the master of soundtracks. Thief is his best in this regard, the whole thing is just beautiful. Manhunter's Graham's Theme is also one of the bests. And Crockett's Theme is still the gold standard in my opinion when it comes to theme songs. So powerful and emotional.

Manhunter > The rest

You have to be a die hard action movie fan who has clocked in hours of fast paced dumb action movies to appreciate a film like Heat that's essentially a crime thriller that just happens to have great action set pieces in it.

Why are there so many boring scenes with women I don't care about? I don't like that in action movies, I want thematic subversion and thinly veiled homoeroticism, like Reservoir Dogs and Miller's Crossing.

I'll probably get downvoted to hell for this but

What is with all the praise for Heat? I guess I could see how at the time of its release it could be considered great. But it really doesn't hold up to all the hype. Saw it for the first time a few years ago and it was pretty boring desu. The "amazing" shoot out scene just feels so artificial that its not even gripping.

See, I haven't seen many dumb action movies. For example, I didn't see the Rock until last month. I've only seen one Michale Bay, Pain and Gain, and I've never seen any Bourne or Mission Impossible. I have seen Smoking Aces, however.

>blackhat at the bottom

my personal Mannpleb filter

Manhunter = Thief > The rest

kys also downvoted

I count Mann in my top ten filmmakers but never managed to finished Blackhat.

I've seen Heat, Collateral, Last of Mohicans and Public Enemies. Really enjoy Heat and Collateral, which should I watch next

Miami Vice is a good watch after Collateral, same digital look, lots of nighttime too

Manhunter and Thief are top kinos

I truly don’t understand the praise Miami Vice gets on Sup Forums. I just recall a lot of establishing shots followed by nothing happening.

The Insider
Collateral
Manhunter
Blackhat
Heat
Last of the Mohicans
Public Enemy

Didn't bother finishing Ali or Miami Vice, so I can't judge those

>tfw Dr. Lecktor will never show you the ligt

Mann is among the greatest filmmakers at combining images and sound for maximum emotional effect. This is true for all his movies, from Thief to Blackhat. His filmmaking really stepped up to another level when he started to use digital cameras, beginning with Ali. Miami Vice is my sentimental favourite but Public Enemies is severely underrated even by Mann fans and deserves a second look . It's the equal of Miami Vice in every way: the use of music, the hard-edged digital look, the affecting love story . It also bears a thematic resemblance to Ali, in the way it shows the protagonists' relationship with the media. Check it out, Mannfans.

Throat cancer. He's fine now, but it fucked his throat.

Manhunter is probably the best example of "Style adding to substance" instead of "Style over substance" ever put to film. It's a goddamn masterclass.
