Having no previous experience growing up with the character, I thought it was a breath of fresh air to have such a flawed hero. I get why it would upset old fans, but for me, it felt genuine and honestly an interesting direction to take a character that I personally was worried would be predictable throughout the series.

I didn't see it that way. From my point of view he was never about being the word of God teaching right from wrong, he was a force sensitive farm boy who found himself to be the son of a true villian. It was shocking to see him give up and pull the lightsaber on Kylo, but at the same time it didn't feel out of character. It's not like he's ever been above killing people.

Again, I get why it would upset people, but for me, it's all about how you look at the character. He wasn't my childhood hero or anything so it didn't feel like a gut punch, it just felt like a shocking and different way to take his arc.
