The 80s saw lots of 50s emulation (Stand by Me, Back to the Future, Little Shop of Horrors, etc.).
The 2010's saw lots of 80s emulation (Kung Fury, Stranger Things, etc).
Filmmakers are usually in their 30s when they get the creative freedom to focus on homage, and that homage usually goes back to their childhood (i.e. 20-30 years prior) so homages to the 2000s are due in the 2030s.

nah I think the current decade will. The iPhone didn't release until June 2007 so there weren't smartphones everywhere until then and a good portion of 2000-2010 had elements from the 90's that carried over

2000s were weird, they felt, at last in my mind looking back, like a decade that cut short by 9/11 which just changed a lot of shit that might have gone in a different direction. 2000s nostalgia examining post-9/11 mindsets and the effect it had on media, but that won't happen. I'm nostalgic for them. Undeniably weird and bad movies with a ton of flaws, but I have very fond memories of them, mostly to do with the art design, the droids, ships and sith were all favourites of mine when I was younger. I loved the destroyer droids with the shields, CIS droids, republic dropships, General Grievous, fucking SHEEV. Revenge is fun as fuck, honestly. But they are by far and large odd, shite movies, can't help but have a soft spot for them.

And if all else failed, the Internet provided an escape from the bullshit of real life. Rat Race is a perfect pre-9/11 time capsule movie. It was funny, but not too offensive. It was a comedy for the whole family but lots of the jokes were aimed at adults as well, and Smash Mouth plays a big concert at the end of the movie.
