Isn’t the Jedi council who make all the decisions about what the Jedi order, unelected?

YOU BROUGHT HIM HERE TO KILL ME

There's also nothing that indicates that the Senate is actually democratic. We have no idea how most of the senators are selected. The only example we have is Naboo, whose senator is an ex-queen and who chose a retarded gungan to make decisions for the whole planet while she was away without any input from Naboo.

The council is elected by vote of current council members, so yes they're a democracy.
The real shit thing about the Jedi is that they're a galactic peace keeping order who exclusively serves one government and one way of thinking.
They should be a neutral third party in the war between the Republic and separatists, trying to broker peace between them. Not the generals of the Republic army.

Its almost like the writer is a fucking fat hack that made the empire be defeated by home alone pranks

The Jedi Council and the Republic/Senate are separate things first of all. The Jedi Order is like a knighthood, they have serve the Republic but have autonomy in how they decide to approach situations. The leaders of the Council are voted in by the current Council members but the Council only seems to decide the actions of the Jedi Order which shows they have no control over the government.

What Obiwan was talking about here is that he serves the Order which serves the Republic which is Democratic. So his allegiance is to Democracy while Anakin wants to rule the galaxy himself in a sort Monarchy.

>The Galactic Senate, also referred to as the Galactic Congress, was the governing body of the Galactic Republic. It consisted of hundreds of senators who represented the many worlds of the galaxy, and was led by a Supreme Chancellor that was elected by and from the representatives

They elected the Chancellor but we don't know if the actual senators were elected. I'm sure wookiepedia says it somewhere, though.

>democracy
>space dindu tries to kill palpatine without a trial for following a different religion

>cops go to arrest someone
>he shoots at them, killing a few
>cops then try to kill him

How is Palpatine not the dindu in this situation?

Windu and the others turned on their lightsabers menacingly, it was self-defense, Jedi shouldn't have any authority without a court order

>cops drew their weapons menacingly, the black drug dealer shot at them in self defense

Ok.

This post would somewhat make sense if Palpatine didn't have absolute control of the government and worked time and time again to undermine the foundation of said government.

control that the senate willingly gave him. not his fault the power of the country can be given to one person with a vote.

What was life like under Imperial rule, anyway? I mean in the first SW movie there's a goddamn gangster slug running Tattooine and Mos Eisely is basically Detroit with sand, so was it really that bad?

>Jedi are cops

No

a little bad, you had to worry if your planet was gonna be used for weapon testing because a few rapscallions decided to fight the power

That's Tattooine, and not indicative of the Empire. Tattooine and the Outer Rim is described as almost always being too far away from the Republic/Empire for there to be any Republic/Empire prescence.

>peacekeepers
They’re cops

that's what I was getting at, despite being free from the clutches of the evil Empire, it was a pretty rough and shitty planet.

do they actually have federal authority from the republic government?

He was a war criminal, user. Or did you miss the part where he was leading two sides of the same conflict?

And because of a conflict he orchestrated. It's not hard to see how he got emergency powers when he manipulated the situation to make it look like that was the best option available

pfft what russian hackers helped palpatine gain the election for emergency powers. there was no collusion between Senator palpatine and the Trade Federation

To be fair, Palpatine's "religion" is more akin to space terrorism than anything else.

nah what im arguing about is why is that even stipend in the system. sure he played it to get the senate to vote that way but they still had the condition in their government that a single vote could grants the acting chancellor full power

Tatooine was just as awful in the phantom menace as it was under the empire.

I bet nothing really changed at all, even on coruscant. The republic was borderline fascist honestly.

Yeah, I mean i'll admit that's dumb, but I suppose it made sense in a government that didn't typically have such large conflicts that would warrant having standing armies.

>They should be a neutral third party in the war between the Republic and separatists, trying to broker peace between them. Not the generals of the Republic army.
And they were. Until Darth Maul showed up, and they pledged alliance to the republic.

you gotta drop the cop meme.

They are a religious organization.

As I recall worship of Sith shit is banned in the Republic, well I am not sure if it still hold in Sheev's time.

Nah. The idea that the old Jedi had lost their way because they invested more in the materialistic and political goings-on of the galaxy instead of following the will of the Force is pretty great. As is the idea of a corrupt bloated bureaucratic republic succumbing to its own failures and hypocrisies and being transformed into an Empire.

Dindu violated the NAP

>Tatooine was just as awful in the phantom menace as it was under the empire
The Empire ended slavery on Tatooine. That's why Jabba was in the middle of the desert in some ugly ass fortress and not in the capital

wtf I love the empire now!

What is really stupid is the senate didn't want to use an army, but they gave Palpatine emergency powers for the sole purpose of using an army.

because the jedi entered his property without permission so he pulled the stand your ground meme

You have to pay heavy taxes, and corporations and industries were nationalized by the Empire.

so is the supreme court

>my allegiance is to democracy
>democracy run by

I have to admit this debate on what the Jedi are supposed to be is interesting. They're are for the most part a police force but considering they involve themselves with political affairs and seek to supress the Sith I can't help but think they're the inquisition.

and the ultimate pottery is that the Sith subvert the government that they swore loyalty to and use the instruments of state to exterminate the cucked Jedi who chose to follow MUH REPUBLIC instead of the will of the force. Obi-Wan didn't get it, he NEVER really got it. Even as a ghost he is telling Luke that he has to kill Vader. He didn't understand that only unconditional, sacrificial love, what Vader had lost with his mother, then with Padme, could turn Vader away from the darkness he had immersed himself in.
