>Metropolis will follow Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets. Airing exclusively on DC’s upcoming digital service, it promises to show us a wondrous and awe-inspiring City of Tomorrow, before the emergence of Superman, and establish much of the Man of Steel’s world leading up to his arrival.

SUPER! This sounds cool! Interesting that it will be weekly. Is that an indication for what we can expect from the streaming service in general? I figured the shows would likely be on that sort of schedule (to keep people from subscribing for one month, bingeing what they want, and then unsubscribing), but I also wasn’t sure if they’d go the Netflix route and drop all the episodes of a season at once. I think what they’re doing with Metropolis is a better choice business-wise.
This seems wholly different from Smallville or Gotham, because presumably Clark Kent won’t be in it. Lois and Lex are both fascinating characters, and I think it’ll be awesome to get a show about them! I just hope we can get another cold, calculating Lex like Michael Rosenbaum gave us, because other than him, we never seem to get that unfortunately. As much as I like Gotham, I also hope they don’t give us full-fledged Superman villains before Superman is around. Sure, show us John Corben, but don’t make him actually become Metallo on the show. I am happy to see that some of the creative team behind Gotham is working on Metropolis though, since as I said, I do really like Gotham!

Smallville was kino, but Gotham is shit and Krypton and Metropolis sound like cancer.

>Smallville was kino >EVWITHIN WAS BETWER WHEN I WAS A BABYYYY Smallvile was dog shit.
Adrian Howard
Smallville teased everyone with the idea of a payoff that was a ripoff. Gotham has Wayne kind of doing the same thing and people falling for it. I'm sorry but I'm tired of these shows that skip the main character. I couldn't give two shits about the Lois Lane show. And they'll fail at Lex because, other than Smallville, they always fuck him up. And even in Smallville that actor bailed when he realized they were just milking it.
Make a Superman show or don't, but enough of this prequel shit.
Anthony Lewis
Another cash grab like CBS. People are cutting the cord left and right and these companies are now going to hide all their interesting content hostage to get your money again.
Oliver Howard
Jfc If there is one thing worse than capeshit movies it’s all these fucking capeshit tv shows

Jackson Collins
DC movies: nolan's batman trilogy, man of steel, batman v superman (basically 5 of the top 5 best comic book movies ever)
Ryder Taylor
But only two of those movies are good. Begins and TDK.
Aaron Adams
This is why I don't bother. Three shows and none of them focus on Superman, they aren't connected, even loosely, so that there some kind of world building (you don't have to have crossovers and shit, just say they are in the same universe), and they're scattered all over the place with one behind a paywall. Why even invest time in this? Supergirl sucks and the other two sound boring. The only potential is if Kryton goes full BSG mode kino, but I feel like it'll be cheesy disposable pulp.
Wyatt Murphy
If only those 2 are good of the top 5 I mentioned earlier then the others are god tier

>Airing exclusively on DC’s upcoming digital service
i like how a generation of people dropped tv for streaming services, only for every content owner to make their own competing streaming service
we used to get 100 channels for $100 a month now it'd cost ~$700 a month to get everything

been there, done that
Parker Hill
well I can't imagine a worse premise unless they were both trying to make a cupcake restaurant business work in high tax high rent Metropolis and Lex has autism so he keeps knocking over the cupcake batter when he spergs out and Lois gets mad then forgives him
David Lewis
Oh look another superhero tv show without the core superhero. When will this meme end?
Jack King
Except for when you're an internet pirate. You get everything for free!

SMALLVILLE WAS ACTUALLY BASED Tons of cameos from up and coming actors and current actors then, interesting seasonal arcs, and yeah, of course, the CW romance, but it didn't consume everything except for friend triangles (and which was avoided most of the time due to Clark hiding his powers as an excuse) He was called the Red Blue Blur instead of Superman when he was in Metropolis because they didn't want to go full Superman until the last episode(s)
Nice argument, reddit, maybe you should use a s-s-studder to project on that poster even more.
It was never intended to go full Superman until the end
Also >shitting on Smallville >with THE most definitive versions of Lex Luthor (and his father Lionel Luthor) that will ever grace a monitor\tv\TV show\movie.
Juan Clark
This was Kino
Easton Cruz
My Fringe bros I miss our threads in old/tv/ when it was airing weekly
Andrew Ramirez
Smallville's Lex (and Lionel) was indeed the best we'll probably ever get. But the premise was high school years and it went on for a decade. They should have made it have a clear ending where he becomes Superman at the end of the 5th season at most, and should never have brought on the Green Arrow and other superfriends. It's best years were when it was grounded and he (and the meteor rocks) were the only fantasy element. Losing Lex was a good sign they were going too long.
Now, IF they'd transitioned to a show where he became Superman and continued from there then cool, change setting, change up supporting cast mostly, have him wear the suit, and then bring on the capeshit elements and villains. But that is a different show. They tried to have two things at once, a Metropolis based superhero show with crazy villains and other heroes, but still with no suit and him trying to figure himself out and discovering his identity.
Jason Morris
>They [...] should never have brought on the Green Arrow and other superfriends. [...] Losing Lex was a good sign they were going too long. agreed >. It's best years were when it was grounded and he (and the meteor rocks) were the only fantasy element. seconded
Now, the latter, I disagree-ish. The Metropolis change in Smallville was nice, but it got tired due to them reusing the set way too much near the Daily Planet due to budget, and also being >Vancouver outside shots.
A Superman TV show would never work, he needs big budget stunts\CGI to fully demonstrate his abilities when he's grown up.
Alexander Cook
It could conceivably be his father.

this sounds absolutely trash. why would they investigate anything together?

Supernatural is better than dc movies and tv shows put together, though.
