Professional reviewer for an online review site here. We literally aren't allowed to criticize Black Panteher or Black Lightning. There is huge pressure from the studios and our bosses to give positive reviews. We are allowed to include minor criticisms within the body of the review as long as the overall review shows up as positive on RT and Metacritic.

I always root for the CW. I like their corporate philosophy, and even if I'm not a huge fan of all their shows they are respectable competition for the big 4 networks.

That being said, it won't be long before the initial high ratings for this show drop by 50%. Supergirl was getting 1.3's in its inaugural season and is now at .55's, lower than 13 YEAR VETERAN SERIES SUPERNATURAL!

The Flash is the only show on the network which is able to beat it right now. Black Lightning will not likely be an exception.

Full disclosure, I've not seen the show yet, but why the fuck didn't they make this show about Static Shock?!? The same character, but at least millennials will know him from the cartoon...

DC doesn't outright own the IP to Static, they only have some kind of a deal with Milestone to allow them to publish them under certain stipulations, which is partly why all of the IPs from Milestone have been out of circulation so long. Black Lightning doesn't have that problem and they can do whatever they want without having to always ask different parties outside of DC if x, y and z is OK.

That IP situation blows. I feel like the "mature, community minded, small time black superhero" niche is nicely filled by Luke Cage (which has the Netflix luxury of sex scenes and mature scenes, violence, and mature themes).

Static Shock as a teen capeshit/drama would be much more up the CW's alley and would add much more to their crossover universe. Regardless, I hope the show succeeds.

The CEO just gets pressure via email to give good reviews with the understanding that if we don't cooperate we won't get access to future press events which means no articles on those events and early announcements which means no articles which means no pageviews and we lose money.
