Just ordered these from Criterion what am I in for?

Just ordered these from Criterion what am I in for?

+30 in IQ.

also what order do I watch them in?

Stalker is a 10/10
Solaris is an 8

Stalker is 11/10

also if Stalker was made later why was it shot in the boxy 1.37:1 ratio when Solaris was shot in wide 2.39:1 like seven years earlier?

Hnnmm yes... Exquisite...

whats with the stalker cover? also the mirror is his best film, but theyre all great, and should have also order andrei rublev

It was originally shot anamorhic on kodak film. But the russian film lab developed it wrong, so they lost a years worth a shooting. When they reshot the film Tarkovsky for whatever reason chose tho shoot it in 1.37:1.

Watched the mirror the other night. Can you explain to me the scene where the mom tries to sell the other woman those earrings then sees her baby son then kills a cock then hurries to leave with young Tark? Only bit I didn't get.

I agree with this cultured gentleman

>tfw i don't have money to spend on criterion releases

they're like $10 cheaper per film on Amazon
I don't know why criterion price gouges on their own site

Nice, I'll check that out

They may be hard to watch in one sitting if you like pondering the lines, but I try to watch Stalker at least once each year. There's a lot in there especially when you compare it to the book.

Stalker and Mirror are a fuckin trip.

Solaris is a tough one.

because they can
amazon sellers have to price lower to compete

Stalker is a masterpiece. Solaris is a masterpiece for 2/3rds of its runtime- the last third is actually fucking unbearable and gets real repetitive real quick.

is The Sacrifice good?

Pure kino of the highest order.

Two of the absolute greatest films of all time by one of the greatest filmmakers. Money well spent, user

What was the meaning of the dog?

zzzZZZZzzzz

Solaris drags a lot in the beginning but its good, i think even Tarkovsky said he wanted to remake it

STALKER is a 8/10 sci-fi

kys

Waste of money, the flicks aren't bad but are way too long, a lot of shit could be cut out and they would lose nothing, also they're worth one watch after that no need to ever see them again

EXTREMELY intellectual films that will grant you a tremendous insight into Eastern Orthodox philosophy that those in the West dismissively describe as "primitive", but is in fact some of the purest expression of human emotion.

Sometimes a dog is just a dog.

I do feel like there was some kind of artisitc decision in the overly long scenes that we just don't get

No, I am pretty sure it means something. I just don't know what.

no you have those backward

why do you feel that way. for me stalker was maybe more interesting visually but far less emotionally involving. too allegorical or something

I think not many besides Tarkovsky know what it means. Odd feeling come to think of it, knowing that you know there is some kind of meaning that you just can't figure out

Solaris is definitely a better film than stalker

It's not odd at all, if the film maker intends for a scene to have meaning but hasn't conveyed it properly he has failed

it's a great slow burn trip. i teared up when he dreamed of his mom near the end

this shot is the first and foremost memory of that film

reminds me of staying at my grandparent's farm in northern greece as a child

The film is about faith.

Nolan but replace the pop with religious experience

always hear great things about soviet era/older russian directors but enver watched their movies. how well do they hold up? all time classics will always be great right

It is worth a watch. I have seen Andrei Rublev, Stalker, The Mirror and The Sacrifice from him. I thought The Sacrifice was good but it wasn't great. I would say that the rest of his films i have seen were great.

Question about blu-ray image rips that are released. Do they contain just the movie or all the features?

a hackery of the highest degree

What are you in for? A good nap.

A kino kip
