What happened to westerns? There hasn't been a single "real" western in years and years. Every time a new "western" comes out it's always some overly violent bullshit in the name of being "subversive" and the critics all jump over themselves to call it "The best western since Unforgiven."

Westerns became as irrelevant as old Seinfeld episodes that have scenarios that could be easily solved by modern day technology.

It's been 10 years since this kino was released.

I thought The Revenant was pretty damn good and true to classic westerns.

huh? What about medieval settings, ancient rome, etc. Lots of those dramatic moments could have been solved by mobile phone technology, but it doesn't make them irrelevant for film. It's the audience's appetite (like the switch from cowboys to space stories after Sputnik was launched, e.g.), adding to this our tastes can be satiated whenever and wherever by new forms of media, which seem to offer an endless stream of what you want to hear and see

They wax and wane as the appeal of the foundational image of the American rugged individualist does.
