Who's worried about Season 3?

A large portion of the fanbase as always overused lame memes. Fucking Wubba Lubba Dub Dub was a parody of shit catchphrases but so many people unironically latched onto it. I love Rick and Morty, but I won't try and pretend it doesn't have a cancerous fanbase.

REDDIT AND MEMEY

fpbp

Because they didn't do retarded jokes in all of the other episodes.

That was the second post dumbass.

>I love Rick and Morty, but I won't try and pretend it doesn't have a cancerous fanbase.
To be fair, what fanbase isn't cancerous.

every fucking thread

I usually use Sup Forums for shitposting about "Christfags", "Wubbalubdub" and "Nihilism *burp* Morty", and like to keep Sup Forums for normal discussion of the show.

Season 1 was 7/10 or even 8/10, overrated by everyone because there's nothing as good on Television (which sin't saying much).
Season 2 was more of the same, but people got tired of some recurring jokes and running gags so rated it worse.
I foresee in Season 3 the staleness will really kick in, being identical in quality to Season 1 and 2.
The consequence will be people getting disappointed and disillusioned and considering it worse than the previous.

As the humor grows stale and the novelty wears off, only two kinds of people will keep watching: addicted drones and lorefags.
The point of interest of the show will shift from "the wacky premise" to "the interesting storyline".

After Season 3 and maybe 4, people will start complaining that "the good old episodes were about fun wacky adventures, now it's all serious bullshit", without understanding that the humor died off for a very good reason: it had grown very very stale.

These are my predictions.

Going forward, I look forward to the show pulling off one or two emotional moments that don't make me roll my eyes.

So exactly what happened to Adventure Time?

>He doesn't understand the sincere absurdism of pickle rick and how it has just the right ironic distance

I'M PICKLE RICK!!

The problem with the fans is that they try to justify liking this show by labelling it as a smart and deep dark comedy despite it being 85% shit memes

>they try to justify liking this show by labelling it as a smart and deep dark comedy
Who the fuck does this?

So, Bojack on steroids.

I'll take Rick and Morty's normie meme loving fucks over Star Vs. "multiple generals on the front page which are just an excuse to post foot fetish cuck porn" fans anyday.

or SU fans

People with a superiority complex

The only people who think AT even has a storyline are lorefags. The show changed, but not like that.

Or Gravity Falls, or Adventure Time or blah blah blah, nerd culture in general is a giant cancer sore on the ass of society. You can't chuck a rock two feet round these parts without it crashing through the bottom of the barrell.

Honestly, I think the problem is the fans take to much of what Rick's character does at face value. Rick is meant to clearly be this terrible person who makes shitty jokes and makes everyone worse, yet if you go to tumblr you see people praising him like the second coming of Jesus and then shit on Jerry for not letting him do what he wants. And now the show has this weird pace of not being entirely sure if they want to continue making him a jerk or soften them up to appease the fans.

It's like if everyone who saw Fight Club sincerely thought Tyler Durden was on the right and everything he did was right.

BIG REVEAL

The first season was great because it was just about Morty and his gruff, drunk, but still loving Grandpa Rick going on Adventures. Then for the second season, they ignored their own advice about not giving a shit and started to add more background to the characters, but they still didn't seem to know what to do, so we got rushed scenes like Rick's attempted suicide and Birdperson's exposition dump, while any of the comedy aspect was completely forced into extremely subpar episodes like Get Shwifty, Look Who's Purging Now, and Interdimensional Cable 2. Not to mention Morty's barely worth having second billing as he's more of an accessory or commentary to Rick's adventures than a partner.

With the Season 3 premiere having more of Nhilistic Rick's Baddass Adventures™, there's not much hope that it's going to be good.

/r/ick and M'orty

What really killed me was how monotone and flat everything got around season five.

This. It reminds me of people who like Walter White for the entire series.

I think R&M can stay good if the writers disregard the fans opinions. At least the vocal ones who still say "Tiny Rick!". They miss the point of the show and like that flawed interpretation of it. If they were to get their way (i.e. treat Rick like a Mary Sue, a la end of the series Arnold from Hey Arnold) then it really will be Reddit And Memey. However, I don't think it's at that point yet.

>To be fair, what fanbase isn't cancerous.
Here is a hint: When a fanbase is good, it earns its own board :^)

... Sup Forums ?

>yet if you go to tumblr you see people praising him like the second coming of Jesus
They also really want to fuck him for some reason.

.../mlp/?

le god doesnt exists xD

Basically they've given into the fans too much, which a lot of animated shows do. Rick is idealized by a lot of vocal fans, because they see themselves in his cynical and flippant attitude. That's fine (though I'd say incredibly misdirected), but the issue is that the writing staff have started pandering more and more to this section of the fanbase.

The show is almost a parody of itself at this point and I get the feeling that one of the episodes in season 3 is gonna tip it over the edge.

bingo.

Yeah but niggas on the internet want to fuck everyone I'm sure you could find someone who wants to fuck Thomas the Tank Engine without trying too hard if you wanted

nnnnnh HHHHUUUHHHG ggaaaaoohh O UP OH POOPIES

... Sup Forums?

Half-Life 1's fanbase. It's small as hell, but everyone is extremely nice and cool.

>It's like if everyone who saw Fight Club sincerely thought Tyler Durden was on the right and everything he did was right.

Thank you, that's a perfect analogy.

It's a problem with any show that has a character who has a nihilistic personal philosophy who isn't completely unlikeable. Nihilism appears very liberating at first, so (to teenagers especially) nihilist characters are often celebrated in spite of their flaws.

It's why you see a lot of people idealizing the ethos that Joker spouts in the Dark Knight.

fujoshis like his archetype and some ship him with Morty

Sup Forums used to love this show, what happened?

they started to pander to Reddit

there is no difference between s1 and s2

so you're saying this show was reddit all along? rlly makes me think

It got too popular for contrarians to like it.

Half joking, but in all seriousness, it really exploded in popularity and (at least in my opinion) the writers began to pander to parts of the fanbase who latched onto the nihilistic humour, Rick's character and the memes. I think that drags the show down a lot.

There's also the fact that people way overcredit it for tackling shocking topics like sexual assault. Not that it didn't often have interesting takes on the topics, but I've met a lot of people who talk it up as if it's truly groundbreaking animation for doing that. Honestly, I think the writing is where the show shines through; the animation is pretty subpar, and part of an overall trend in western animation where adult animation really doesn't give the animation itself enough focus.

It got popular.

If you've ever seen the picture where the Sup Forums user is hugging something and then the redditor comes along and suddenly he switches to trash instead-

That's exactly what happened here.

how can we take this show back from redditors?

>pol
pic related

This is why the premiere made me very wary. Rick was always portrayed as competent but he was also cowardly and an outsider who either ran away from a problem or applied overwhelming force. And is always portrayed as an asshole either way. The premiere made him... cool which I think is concerning. I think he either needs a big loss or is shown to be morally in the wrong and called out.

have you seen the animatic they showed some time ago? I still think he'll suffer some consequences

>Advertised as the darkest time of their adventures
Pretty worried it's going to turn into edgy nonsense

I'd say that a lot of things do decline in quality when they become popular, though. Not because there are fans that annoy you but simply because as the fanbase becomes larger, there's always the temptation of the writers to pander to more and more segments of that fanbase, which means that the show can lose the original vision and tone. Listening to fans, more often than not, makes things generic and leads to small character traits being played to absurd levels.

Faggots from Sup Forumseddit invaded.

and probably some samurai jack fags who are still butthurt about the April Fools thing

/vp/ is one of the worst boards on this website dont even lie

I doubt that.

It's pretty nice during leak season.

well HELLO reddi t

the only things I'm worried about are drug addiction, lung cancer, and a slow, painful meaningless death.

>reddi t

nice blog

...

are you not worried about that?

That's a big disgust.

well, we're on Sup Forums, everyone can say everything and you have no way of knowing if they're bullshitting or not, watch this: I plan to kill myself in an hour
is it real? who knows, you will never know for sure

The only way to enjoy this show is to never look at articles, comments, or discussion about it because it will ruin it

4U

hi

Also happened with Harmon's other show, Community

It isn't 85% memes.
Its parody. You think they were serious when they do shit like the list of Rick's some dozen catchphrases? Or the episode where they threw in a shit ton of nonsense characters?
The show is not meant to be taken seriously.
You fags who complain about it are the ones that make the fanbase cancerous.
Christ.

I'm looking foward to one episode desu

But that has always been the whole show

See, shit like this is just sad.
Someone took the show seriously enough that they wasted their timing drawing this.

The problem is that most autists and normalfags that watch the show take everything at face value.

lord have mercy, i likes me some big women

>"Wahhhh stop making fun of my favorite show! "

maybe reddit is more of your place

>"Waaaahhhhh they mentioned atheism and repeat catchphrases!"

maybe reddit is more of YOUR place, snowflake

>God isn't real
>the Devil is
really makes you think

I know you Rick and Morty fans have a massive persecution complex but the shitty MS Paint drawing isn't specifically about the show.
It's just adult animation in general.
If anything you just pointed out yourself that the drawing applies to the show.

Don't be so upset when people make fun of your cartoon.

ITT: R*dditors upset that their show isnt worshipped on Sup Forums like it is in reddit

Literal reddit-core garbage.

Rick and Morty was always shit but like, the whole point was that its fans and creators (the one that counts) knew that. That was the joke. It was all a goofy piss up just like the rest of his work. You think he thinks the unmarketables is art? No. It's shit. Does that mean it's not funny? No, it's funny because it's shit. That was the intent. So too with the pickle and loads of other jokes. Normalfags fuck it up as usual and try-hard so they meme the shit out of the jokes and prove Justin's point. The S1 finale laughed at people who laugh at jokes they don't get just to fit in. It was a whole scene. No one felt that self awareness. No one at all in the large swathe of fans.
This is why the Sup Forums threads went to shit. When people start liking something ironic unironicaly it makes you question just how ironic it was in the first place.

That's the joke.
Old smart science guy not believing in god is cliche as fuck, so these plays with it by not only having Rick casually interact with the devil, but even outright praying at one point. Rick doesn't truly believe there isn't a god, he's just playing the role

Really makes you remember that its an adult absurdist science fiction cartoon that isn't meant to be taken seriously.

The drawing applies to what fags here attack the show for and you're bullshitting so poorly if you think that image isn't specifically targeted at Rick & Morty. What other show gets frequently bashed here for "god isn't real"?

>/aus/
>doing such a good job you earn your own shitposting board
This would be so cool.

>absurdist
>""""""science""""""""" fiction

str8 outta reddit

Use your words to describe why you disagree with those things.
You know, like an adult.

Is it wrong to wish death on the "reddit and memey" posters?

Worked for mlp and hell, they somehow got other people to do most of the shitposting for them.

Yes, its wrong to wish death on children.

I hope in the finale Rick kills himself :3

...

Christ, shows like SU or Loud House get plenty of shit (sometimes justified, sometimes not) for their annoying fanbases but it's only Rick and Morty threads that the shitters actively try and ruin. Every single Rick and Morty thread for the past couple of months has devolved into

>lol reddit and memey XD
>we're trying to discuss the show
>LOL BUTTHURT REDDITORS *spams memes*

>the images showing how an irc team had botted multiple boards for maximum horse shit post
>didn't like horse
It was a pretty ingenious way to get revenge. Horse board was a death knoll for anyone who wasn't cancer.

R&M is far more popular than both those shows combined so it leads to a stronger hate group

>What other show gets frequently bashed here for "god isn't real"?
Family Guy ?
Any show with preachy atheist characters ?

>bullshitting so poorly if you think that image isn't specifically targeted at Rick & Morty
Geez, user, that image is just referencing adult animation cliches in general. Things that shows like Bojack Horseman or Family Guy do. If anything, you feeling so strongly that the image MUST be attacking Rick and Morty just points out that Rick and Morty is not special and is just like the dozens of other "adult cartoons" out there, if you insist so strongly that the image is an attack on Rick and Morty as if it was the only show that did those things.
