It's the Shi'ar galactic empire that gets involved with Dark Phoenix in the comics, not the skrulls. Not ever the Skrulls. I don't even know of any pre 2000 xmen published story involving skrulls, and I know a fair bit about xmen. Skrulls are historically antagonists in FF, in Silver Surfer, in Avengers, and of course in captain Marvel. But in xmen it's completely unheard of. To me this seems like someone at Fox tried to complicate the life and/or upset Marvel Studios by using an alien race that was yet to be adapted on screen.
No wonder Marvel wants to shut down this movie. Skrulls have a considerable role on the cosmic side of the marvel-verse. Casting Chastain as their queen seems completely moronic to me since we're talking about a shape-shifting alien race, but hey whatever. This movie is probably doomed anyway. Also lulz at Xmen being national heroes after Apocalypse. You can't make this shit up.
