user, I've seen it happen at the very fucking school I taught at. Some bitch claimed her uncle was raping her and her parents were condoning it. The principal, the school counselor, the psychologists who were brought in from outside, everyone believed it. I was quite close with her brother and he told me that she said it because her parents wanted to send her to rehab for her coke problem, and that she's made multiple accusations like this before. But his word meant nothing against hers. In the end she herself admitted that it was a lie.

That one made me pretty angry but seeing pic related for the first time made my head literally spin and my vision started bIurring because of how much rage it filled me with.

user the entire film is based on dozens and dozens of real life cases, after the director made Festen a psychologist sent him an entire box full of actual false allegation cases just like that. You can check all of this out by a simple google search

He didn’t say that you reading comprehension lacking autist, he said the girl is not responsible for all the backlash, she made a small innocent lie not knowing how severe that lie was and the parents took it as a fact, I mean there's an entire scene where the girl is explaining to her mom how she just made it all up and didn’t mean anything while the mother denies all that and says that she's just trying to supress what really happened and tries to convince her otherwise

They treat the lesbian couple like they are innocent and they have a happy ending, even though they are just as guilty as John Cusacks character who the movie treats like the bad guy.

the thing is that even just an insult is enough for most people to believe this. the overall reasoning being BUT WAHH WHY WOULD A RAPED PERSON LIEEE. when in reality it happens quite often and the punishments for it are pretty low.
not saying that rape claims shouldnt be taken seriously but also the accused person should be treated fairly until proven guilty
