What was so bad about it then ? Sure pacing issues here and there . And the cuts weren't all that great. But othern then that ? Solid action , pretty faithful to source , good cinematography in a few scenes...can't complain.

it's not completely shit but it's retarded how they basically made the story arc be the same as Robocop.
The big reveal is that she used to be a jap girl, and that by remembering her past she becomes a real individual with free-will and can be happy since she is now a real person.
This whole arc is totally retarded, the original anime made a much deeper point about cyborg and existentialism. Here it's just "I was sad as a robot and now I became a real person by finding myself" retarded usual liberal shit

The problem is that they absolutely fucked the film in reshoots and completely missed the point of GitS.
In GitS she gives up individuality to become something new, an evolved form of humanity, here she just stays an individual and becomes basically a human and finds family.
It was 100% studio meddling (the original cut shown to focus groups had the original GitS ending) but the "individualist" ending is still the version we got so the film is ruined.

The problem is American normies don't understand collectivism. (Despite how nationalistic the US actually is)
It's the same with Shin Godzilla as well. One of the main issues American critics had with it is that it had no "individual hero we can root for", when the entire fucking THEME of the movie is collectivism and collective action.

Being just competent enough to not make me want to leave the theater is not high praise.

GitS was slow, derivative, nonsensical, filled with allusions to the original too small for plebs to notice and too shallow for fans to appreciate. It mished and mashed plot points from almost every other version of GitS, enough to make the story feel completely unoriginal and completely random at the same time. The only saving grace of the movie is its visual design, but even that looks like an off-brand version of what BR2049 would accomplish in the very same year.

GitS might impress you if you've just woken up from a coma and have never seen a Robocop ripoff in your entire life, but if that's the case I can quickly introduce you to much better versions of the exact same movie.

it was an ok adaptation people just hated it cause not muh anime same goes for death note adaptation. I have seen some foul movies and these where actually entertaining.
