Who's your favourite British comedian (Irish are welcome)?
British/Irish comedians
Not Jo "Something Something Husband" Brand
Obligatory
literally a comedy god
Love Moran, I laugh every time I watch this:
youtube.com
Good lord, she’s hideous.
Sean Lock, Mickey Flanagan, Rhod Gilbert (stand up only, boring as fuck on panel shows), John Richardson, Greg Davies, Jack Dee, Kevin Bridges, Tim Vine
David Mitchell
Sean Lock
Bill Bailey
Michael McIntyre
my favourite desu
He looks fat and depressed and fat
DUDE MY HUSBAND LMAO
Rhod's stand up is funny but fucking stressful to watch. Sean Lock is an amazing comedian but he's been cursed with shitty audiences for all of his DVDs. I'm laughing like crazy when watching them but the audience is just awkwardly quiet every time.
>John Richardson
>John
That's going to trigger his OCD
Majority pleb taste there desu
Micky Flanagan has some of the best stand up of the moment, wish he'd be on telly more though
Name your top 5 faggot
>Michael McIntyre
Have some self respect, lad.
Armando
I'll probably get shit for this - but I like Jimmy Carr.
I can't help it, I just relate to his routines about awkward situations in everyday life. I know he's seen as cheap for some reason, but if a comedian makes me laugh he's doing his job as far as I'm concerned
No idea why someone would hate Jimmy Carr. Though he's miles better as a host than at stand-up imo
In no particular order: Eddie Izzard, Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, Rik Mayall, Alexi Sayle, Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey, Adam Buxton
Not a massive fan of panel shows or the comedians that go on them.
HU HU HU HU HU HU HU HU HU!
His laugh is worse than weedjew.
I actually really like his stand up - his lack of PC is really refreshing to me.
I love Stewart Lee.
Even if he is champagne socialist scum.
But if anything, with Lee’s comedy, hating him only makes his jokes funnier. He plays really well off the audiences confusion, anxiety and anger.
I don't think he's hated. I find his stand up a bit naff because I'm not into one-liner comedians telling single sentence jokes for 90 minutes, but he's very good and entertaining as a host.
Love Buxton's podcast and it's interludes
I think that's what makes him great as a host. He gets his chance to do his one-liners (like when introducing each panelist for example) but it's interspersed through the show so it doesn't get old.
GOAT coming through
why do BIRDS
Mladic has let himself go...
It must feel great to make it as a comedian. People like Jimmy Carr, Michael McIntyre, Frank Skinner have millions and millions in the bank and each tour nets them another 5-10 million or so. These people have multiple houses and live a life of luxury doing the job they enjoy.
They also hang out together. Jonathan Ross throws an annual Halloween party where he invites everyone in UK showbiz, and Jimmy Carr is known to throw huge parties where he invites fellow comedians. I've always thought being a famous comedian must be the best life out there.
I missed the Partridge train and feel it's too late to go back and watch the thousand things he's in
Just watch I'm Alan partridge it's only 12 episodes
>so fat, bitter and hideous she can only land a low-status husband
>makes a career of complaining about it
A-ha!
Came here to post him.
This is your way in, user.
Is there a bigger cuck than Jo Brand's husband in existence? What do you reckon he thinks about being the butt of every single one of her jokes, jokes that are being broadcast across the world? Does he secretly cry at night? Do his friends bants him about it or do they feel too sorry for him to even go that far?
>british thread
>people ramp up the cocklesprocket bullshit
as another person from england this is embarrassing
...
Is that the best way to start then? I always feel I should start from the beginning which was on radio I think. I can never decide where to start with this character.
Start with the movie? Surely I'd have to know the character before I jump into that?
I find her quite funny whenever she isn't doing lazy jokes about her husband. But yeah, it is a bit outdated these days. You wouldn't get away with slagging off your wife all the time on telly
t.b.h the character is a bit different to the one in the TV shows. He's less cringey and more confident. The film has the advantage of being self-contained, while being just as funny as the TV series (IMO.)
Cheers. I think I'll just mix and match this thing. I'll watch a couple of episodes to see if it's funny, then see where I want to continue. Could always listen to the radio series on my commute
He's gotten so fake, his standup always has a plant in the crowd who uses the same heckle every time, his entrance on 8 out of 10 is so static and rehearsed, even his appearance is getting uncanny
He does a good job as a panel show host though, his laugh standing out and having a predictable pattern does a great job in wrangling the audience
He's not the best at coming up with lines on the spot, he uses pre-written jokes when hosting anything. You can see he's got nothing ready when panelists start talking back to him or causing trouble on Big Fat Quiz and he's just silent.
And does anybody believe his laugh is even real? He keeps saying it's his natural laugh but if you watch his ealier tv stuff he clearly laughs like normal.
Frankie Boyle.
Based
...
el bongo....
Someone on the Big Fat Quiz (Rob Brydon I think) called him out on 'developing' that stupid laugh over time. It's definitely not his natural one
youtube.com
Found it, great clip
It's obviously a fake showbiz laugh he developed as a unique selling point. I don't mind though, it works and it's easy to fall back to when someone says something that doesn't get a reaction. Better than a forced genuine laugh
I like Brydon, he's charming.
Seeing him live tomorrow night. Comedykino.
Who have you seen live before?
I've been to see Dylan Moran, Alan Davies, Bill Bailey and Ricky Gervais (friend got tickets through work, was surprisingly decent)
he's a pseud. Herring was the talent.
Frankie Boyle is everything Stewart Lee wishes he could be as a comic.
Lee hides behind his "ahh but is this my persona or not" schtick.
I can't be the only one who loves this fish-eyed German dude
this fat cunt
It's hard to dislike the guy. Always a good addition to any panel show, and great as the host of WILTY.
Sure m8. It's Herring's solo stand-up specials which are masterpieces, right?
Die Kreatur...
Whats this guy doing these days?
Herring was the writer of TMWRNJ which is still the best thing either has done.
The man has a laugh like a dyspeptic manatee.
Irishfag here, one of our best comedians that foreigners don't know about is Tommy Tiernan. His later work is shit, but his early stuff was kino.
I sat next to Rob Brydon on a flight once, and he was just absolutely genuinely charming and personable. Lovely man.
Don't forget to watch The Trip to Spain.
Actually, I should've posted D'Unbelievables. Ireland's best stand up comedians by far.
youtube.com
youtube.com
Hoping that he still has a career in Pizza Hut
Sara Pascoe.....yum.
The real fucking deal. Jerry Sadowitz. Good luck finding any of his material online though...
She's a bit too in your face with her feminism rants which causes her to forget to tell jokes, which is her job. She is yummy though
She's unfunny and unintelligent.
Same with Aisling Bea. The only modern female comedian I can think of who doesn't base her whole act on bemoaning men's privilege is Isy Suttie
Steve Coogan
Peter Cook over all.
Roisin Conaty is good
I forgot about her, she's pretty good but I always wonder if her ditzy personality is put on or whether she's actually a bit slow
never her ever. wtf is this a baitpost?
Lee Mack is probably my favourite.
youtu.be
How would he do in standup?
Lee Mack
David Mitchell
Old Frankie Boyle before the beard and twitter
The merchant, gervais and pilkington triangle
Al Murray
Yeah he's good
Also sean locke and bill bailey are my favorites
Also forgot to add
Micky Flanagan
Harry Enfield
Anddddd Sean Lock
>Al Murray
It's not his thing, I think. Don't see him cracking jokes or doing a routine about his life as he seems to want to keep that close.
He's better when working off other people on a panel or as a comedy actor.
Seems to have worked
Chris Morris
Came here to post this. Just wish the man was more active these days.
he would be terrible
Also,David Mitchell is a thing of the past, he became old and boring after he got a family.
Now he's just another leftwing twat. I mean, he was a leftwing twat before, but he used to make funnies.
>no John Cleese
God you virgins are such fucking faggots sometimes
When did he stop being funny?
I don't think he made a single joke on the BFQ 2017. Just bitched about Brexit and how England is shit and scowled all night
They very rarely seem to let him on the telly, but when he does it's always good
Shame he accidentally killed Father Ted though
best w-ing they done
Tim Key is off the chain. If you've seen him on TV, you've probably seen him do his weird poetry with the super awkward timing. Live he's totally different, he's super quick and confident and easily the best act I've seen live.
If you like Stewart Lee, you'll get a lot out of Tim Key· Do yourself a favor and book a ticket next time he comes to your town because the time after, you won't get tickets.
this, been watching all of peep show again recently and it's still as amazing as the first time
