now that's out of the way, rec me movies that will give me the same feel this movie gave me please. that bittersweet, melancholy lonely wistful shit
I'm a pleb virgin 20 year old and this is my favourite movie
All of Sofia Coppolas movies
your name
>a young married jew creepily fucks around with an old man
>wistful
>but look at all dah pretty neon lights and shit me like pretension make me feel smart
Ever watch "Her"?
>he thinks Lost in Translation is pretentious
So that's a picture of yourself you posted right? Kill yourself
...
this movie almost made me kill myself
granted i wasnt in a healthy state of mind before seeing it. i had to walk around the city at 3:00 am in the morning and talk myself out of it
american beauty
>there's so much beauty in the world
Imagine being a much of a bitter virginal foreveralone faggot like this guy.
>anything that doesn't spoonfeed plot and morality
>muh jews
>wojak posting
why are you on a television and film board? How are you breathing?
This guy couldn't even post here 2 years ago
And now him and his friends are shitting up the board with his cartoon shit
Chungking Express is really similar
Taxi Driver
Fallen Angels
>m-muh board
thanks for your brilliant contribution, now kindly fuck off back to readit
>2 years ago
Nothing worse than a filthy newfag pretending to know what belongs here because he's desperate to fit in
you are a fascist
This is simultaneously the comfiest and least-comfy movie I've ever watched
Not knowing what pretentious means doesn't make him a fascist.
Chungking is so similar you could almost call LiT an """"homage""""
It's interesting.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
a bit unconventional but Enter the Void
"Somewhere" in particular
This movie makes me very angry.
The whole movie felt mopey and self righteous, and both of the characters in this movie were ungrateful fucks
"I'm on a free vacation abroad, but boo hoo my bf is a jerk. Instead of fixing this problem by leaving him, I'm just gonna fuck around with this other American guy so we can jerk each other off about how complex, lonely and lost we both are"
Bill Murray was a fucking cock smoker for the same reason. Not owning to his own problems and just clinging to the nearest familiar thing to wallow in self pity with.
In the mood for love, best of this genre imo.
Also Casablanca and brief encounter (1945)
fascists always shit on art
bears eat meat
does that make him a bear?
i've noticed these mentioned in other lit rec threads:
fallen angels
chungking express
happy together
last tango in paris
in the mood for love
somewhere
virgin suicides
Not a single one of these is as good as Lost In Translation though
You might like this one. Also, for a deeper experience you could check out Mizoguchi's The Crucified Lovers.

That's sort of the point user. Two people that feel connected because they both feel alienated. lost and unhappy with their lives.
Sofia is just a glorified offbrand WKW for plebs and women.
This guy sure knows his lonelycore. I'm sorry user
@94430857
get a load of this pleb bros
look at him and laugh
did you just use an @ on Sup Forums? How new are you? Is this some kind of false flag?
Wendy and Lucy
Old Joy
It's not really "city wistful" like Lost in Translation, but Phantom Thread made Daniel Day Lewis so sad he quit acting.
Based and nice dubs.
it's not like they cheated or anything. Murray's wife was being a cunt, Scarletts boyfriend wasn't paying attention any attention to her (he's the real cock smoker for ignoring prime Scarlett) and they both had nothing better to do than hang out with each other.
Days Of Heaven
The Thin Red Line
The New World
And I don't know why, but I'm also reminded of
Collateral
The Fountain
The Prestige
>lost and unhappy with their lives.
Is moping about t it to each going to fix anything? No. Their little fling together is purely masturbatory to their individual egos.
Either get in the pool or get out. Avoiding their personal problem by feeding off of each instead of facing them head on was immature and obnoxious, and their shallow attempt to find themselves while on vacation in a first world country at a luxury hotel made for a dreadful snoozefest of a movie.
I remember enjoying this one, but I couldn't tell you much of anything about the plot anymore. Only watched it the once, and it's been a long time.
>the wrestler
>up
>bebop movie
Some questionable recs in there, but a lot of good ones, too.
They were two lonely people in an alien culture. I don't remember much moping in the movie. I wouldn't even call it a "fling." Maybe you could call it an "emotional affair." It was two humans making a connection in a cold world. It's two people dealing with alienation.
They weren't trying to "find themselves" (although you could argue that more with Scarjo, with her listening to Eckankar, watching a Japanese wedding, etc).
The movie is about strangers who constantly run into each other, but never really "get in the pool" like you call it. Even people who might feel trapped in a way, but still wonder what could have been, paths not taken.
And if someone is a total romantic, it could even be about the idea that two people are destined to meet in life, but it may not turn out the way they thought.
all the real girls
rushmore
rachel getting married
greenberg
These are not real people, why the fuck do you care about options they'll never get to even consider? If you want a film about an uplifting coming of age tale, go watch that.
did you highlight those as the questionable recs?
the wrestler, up, and the cowboy bebop movie are bittersweet or melancholy or lonely or wistful in places. like the beginning of up, various places in the wrestler, i can't really name a spot in the cowboy bebop movie. they also have a lot more action than lost in translation. so i focused more on those adjectives than the "same feel" that lost in translation gives.
for that i would say, ghost world.
That's not what the movie was about though. It was about a short period of time where two people met and confided in each other. We don't know that they didn't go back and fix things with their partners.
Baraka
Samsara
>20
Try being 25 khv kiddo.
The fact that they were so distraught in their lives that they needed to emotionally jerk each other off is what came off as mopey to me I suppose. They are in their current situations because of their own actions. Acting like they are lost and cant break free in their own lives is just self pity. They are both obviously wealthy and/or connected enough to be traveling internationally, they need to get over themselves.
I know it's a film. a film I thought was too sappy with characters i found to be loathsome. I will admit that watching it in the first place was a mistake on my part.
Let's hope that they did. The only point I am making is that i found this film insipid because of the shortsighted and immature characters.
How fucking retarded are you faggot
Don't be so mad just because you made a fool of yourself
>bittersweet, melancholy lonely wistful shit
Not Sup Forums related but "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star on repeat does the trick for me
>They are both obviously wealthy and/or connected enough to be traveling internationally, they need to get over themselves.
And you think people with money can't be lonely or unhappy or yearn for some authentic human connection?
SJ didn't choose to be there on her own, she was tagging along with her husband the photographer. Murray was a washed up actor basically doing foreign liquor commercials for the money. It's not like they both decided to go vacation in Japan and that's where they wanted to stay.
You said they were in their current situations because of their own actions, but a lot of the circumstances, and their loneliness, were out of their own control.
And when you're in a strange place full of strangers, it's nice to actually make a real human connection with a stranger. It's a love story without the sex. Although when Bob fucks that lady, you can tell SJ is hurt and upset.
>25
Heh, come back when you're a 29 year old virgin. Going to be 30 in July, at which point I will off myself.
>"Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star on repeat does the trick for me
this
Don't do it. I've known guys who lost their virginity at 35. There are valid reasons for people to kill themselves, but lack of vagina isn't one of those reasons.
That wasn't me but if you haven't seen people use @ here then you're the newfag my friend
Like someone in love
Just pay for it, it's not really a big deal, sex is garbage compared to companionship tho.
Also lads am I a faggot for preferring kissing/spooning to sex most of the time?
>that wasn't me
sure buddy. There's literally no reason for it, which is why i've never seen it in all my years wasted here
Wealthy people can be lonely too. But their relationship dependent on each others loneliness was only going to make their problems worse.(As it obviously did when she was upset that he slept with that woman).
I just didn't like the movie or either of these characters.
It's two sad sacks jerking each other off about a life that could have been. It tries to convey a strong emotional connection that itself is based in nothing but shallow self pity.
>caring about being a virgin
literally who gives a shit
Its to deny the (you) my brainlet friend
I posted that you stupid faggot. his post wasn't worth replying to so I @ him, don't make me @ you with your shit opinion either.
>based in nothing but shallow self pity
this is why a large part of Sofia Coppola flicks are trash, they're about herself but she's shallow and very surface level and it really reflects in her movies. she's only good when she's adapting something by someone else desu
lmao kid watched babby's first so ronery flick, let me give you some real permavirgin melancholy kino: Teddy Bear, In the Mood for Love, Fallen Angels (I imagine you've watched Chungking already), All About Lily Chou-Chou, Sonatine, 'Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring'
I seriously hope this is bait or this board is doomed
He means because of the age restriction, retard
>I'm a pleb virgin 20 year old
Bruh, just make a Tinder account. I'm 22 and should finally lose my virginity within the month. I've had depression my whole life because my parents are retards who abused me by depriving me of sleepovers and interaction at the expense of my development causing me to form habits of self-sabotage, but I'm over it. An adderall prescription and getting my dick will save me then I'll ride off into the sunset with legal weed.
