The Last Starfighter

The Last Starfighter.
You know someone is going to do it.

I can't think who could ever play Centari now..

Change the game into an online shooter and Alex just trying to get tuition and money for the family.
Change Lewis's choice of porn online.
Give some Star League background as Centari briefs Alex.
Group of once warring aliens who joined together to trap the insane Kodan in their home system. The League are now mostly pacifists who also realize the importance of a mixed protective force. The Starfighters.
Maybe detail the Gunstar as having 2 power units... One for flight, the other for weapons. Deathblossom uses both.
Everything else can stay.
With updated effects of course and maybe a bunch of practical ones.

The guy who did Ready Player One wrote a book called Armada. It's pretty much The Last Starfighter. It's been optioned for film development. If Ready Player One does well that'll get made killing a possible remake of Last Starfighter.

when i was a kid i saw last starfighter before star wars, when i saw start wars i was convinced that lsat starfighter and starwars were in the same universe

I have mixed feelings about the success of RP1.
I want to get high on THC gummies, watch it once and ever see it again.

>I can't think who could ever play Centari now..

it would be a sassy, fat black woman.

I'm also worried about the inevitable Roger Rabbit reboot done with cruddy CGI constructs.

dont you put that out there, fuck me even thinking about it depresses me

It's going to happen, user.
JJ Abrams has been interested in doing a sequel for a long time now.

fuck fuck fuck no jar jar Abrams is a hack

I shitpost a lot on here, but when it comes to Last Starfighter, I am an authority (it's one of the only classic films I'm okay with being remade).

Jonathan R. Betuel, the creator/writer, still owns the rights and has no desire to create a sequel. Even Spielberg couldn't get him to budge.

And even if he miraculously changes his mind, the distribution rights (domestic and international) are owned by two different studios.

So in our lifetime, if the choice is between a sequel or we die, well...

some times you got to love red tape

Right? There are more hurdles than this too, it was just an example.

It sucks, cause I always wanted to see his asshole little brother grow up and join the Star League. Totally conflict with his "legendary" big brother.

There's a Last Starfighter documentary out there hosted by the lead actor, if you can find it, it's pretty cool.

i will check it out, its the film that got me into scifi and its the earliest memory i have of a movie

Saw the thread and was about to post this, otheranon beat me to it.

It's a lost cause, the guy who wrote "Ready Player One" is your only hope for something in this genre.

Absolutely 100% guarantee you Alex would be a woman

Isn't someone already doing it? Pretty sure I read it was somewhere.

How the fuck did they get away with it?

Yeah but they called it the last jedi instead.

Instead of making it one earthling, they'd make it like five. You' have a dude from America, sure, but then you'd get like a black dude from South Africa, a sexy french girl who doesn't have no time for his vulgar American ways, two Japanese dudes (one of whom will die), and I dunno, maybe a Brazilian for flavor.

No, read the thread.

Probably the best modern trailer I saw.

Same sort of thing for Back to the Future. We'll never see a sequel or remake as long as guys who made the originals are still alive. so a good 20 years or so.

Why the fuck do you want a remake

Of Back to The Future? Not user, but I don't really think he's asking for that. He's just using it as a comparison for creators who love their original IP so much, that they won't let today's Hollywood ruin it's memory.

A Last Starfighter reboot or preferably sequel, would be awesome though. Technology has advanced so much both in filming and in the storyline, I think they can create a badass movie.
