We are also running our third challenge! Now fortnightly!

>THEME: post apocalyptic - cartoon - animals
>GENRE: FREE PICK (choose any genre you want on this occasion!)
>DEADLINE: August 13

Remember that you can play with the theme as you see fit, we want to see how creative you can get!

>94489429

Because he's the one who ripped her wings off

Since we're heading into the next part of our story we decided to update the main character's looks.

The current ones are actually pretty old concepts, so we wanted to move them into appearances more befitting of their personalities.

>I could swear that The Floater was user firing at a webcomic
>google it
>get literal plastic poop that floats on your pool

ok. that's it? welp good luck then.

Athlete girl, Bat Boi and "The Nerd".

I think you need to flesh this out a lot more, since what you have told us so far doesn't sound really interesting on their hero-villain dynamic. Unless you aren't telling us everything.

A bunch of kids join a paranormal club after school and ghostly hijinks ensue as a loli bosses them around

I dont want to work on that anymore so you can have it

Wanted to include this question in this thread, to see what "style" you personally fall under:

"How do you guys handle your comic writing? Macro ----> micro (as in, making arcs made up of smaller arcs, etc) or vice versa (writing chapter by chapter in filling out semi-vague plot-lines)?"

I mean, I don't want to give away everything. Unless people want it. But I didn't want to flood the thread

just summarize it

Nah man, I'm just drunk and bored.
There you go another fucking idea: A webcomic about a guy being drunk and bored all the time its called: Bored Drunkless

Its a crippling depressing tale about a man further escaping the mundanity of life, in the bottle which becomes less and less effective over time, so he has to drink more and more.

A sober reflection on the nature of the struggling artist. You'd win the fucking webcomic equivalent of a fucking oscar for that melodramatic crap.

I'm on fucking fire tonight.

Hey that gives me an idea.

>it's about a bored drunk
>calls it bored drunk-less

Is the joke that it's ironic?

A webcomic about a man that is literally on fire. Like all the time. Everything he touches gets immolated. And he's very insecure about being naked all the time.

Its called: Burning Man.

I gotta hit the gym first. I'll post it after I get back

Just give a summary. You don't need to give away very specific details, just the key points that let us understand what is your thing about. Otherwise we can't really help you. Is like going to the doctor and when he asks were it hurts you don't say where.

Alright we can wait.

I wrote my reply on the previous thread here

Thats kinda what I did then I started wondering if pre-planning arcs would streamline the writing process

before I got a chance to test that theory I wanted to look over the story's overall theme and main character's journey, which I had to revamp after having more concrete/relevant ideas connected to my life

>you're spelling
ey that was intentional wasn't it

That's the joke, yes

oliver
as in.. Sweet Polly Oliver?
Anyway I love the others' outfits. So cool. Perfectly shounen

Mostly the most broad (This stuff should happen over the course of the story / it should turn out..) and the most specific (actual lines of dialogue). It's the parts in between that I neglect and have trouble with.

how does he eat? also how does he see through the glow of the fire?

it's coming up

w-what is coming up?

>TFW finally got a tablet and it's like re-learning everything from square one.
And here I thought I'd finally be able to show off some stuff, but it looks like it's going to take another couple months to get anywhere passable.

If you want to struggle a bit less, while doing the linearts and what not look for any "stabilizer/stabilization" option on the brush or pen tool. I know SAI, ClipStudio and FireAlpaca have it and it works wonders since when using a tablet you don't have the same control of your pulse so it helps a lot.

Didn't know that existed, I'll give it a shot right now, thanks.

The learning curve is high, but you will get it. It might help to tape a piece of paper to your tablet to start with, if its surface is too smooth, but eventually you'll wanna just get used to the lessened friction it affords you

There's also a freestanding stabilizer called lazynezumi, basically just released by this one guy. He's a bro and a half, so

Neat, I'll give both those things a shot too, thanks.

>tfw I really like my Photoshop brushes but my pulse is shit
>Learn about lazynezumi and get excited
>It's for Windows only, with a Mac port being "considered"

You should just get clipstudio instead honestly.

My real problem is with lineart though, I can kinda work out everything else just fine.

Right now I'm using Fire Alpaca for that, it is flexible with the export options.

CSP has the same utility. Just use it.

Maybe dumb question but is there a way to change how the canvas looks in CSP? I can't really get used to the editorial page kind of look it has

I assume you mean the menus and stuff, not the canvas
I saw someone posting a screencap the other day and it was all in blacks, and it looked great, so I know it's possible to change the skin or whatever in CSP

It's coming up
It's coming up
It's coming up

it's DARE

Guess I'm reposting this.
Is this an okay way to frame a first page
thumbish sketch here

Sorry I already found out. I meant the Manga draft settings. I don't know how I didn't see them before.

Whoa. I'm pulled in.
Just FYI, I know it's a sketch, but iodine is a strong brownish yellow-orange. This just looks like blood on the cotton

Oh she was using it to blot the blood off of her neck. The cotton will get color corrected now that you mentioned it. I have a sketch for page 2 that ill post up soon. I posted some old versions of the story's opening but its all getting overhauled now.

Fan comics - good way to practice or a shitty crutch?

How exactly would making a fan comic be a shitty crutch?
Because you're not making the characters/subject matter?
That's like an entirely different area of making comics than actually drawing them.

Some of my best learning experiences were from doing Steven Universe fan comics.

I just know that in writing, fan fiction is seen as a pretty terrible way to actually progress as a writer.

Maybe not in writing, but If you want to practice actually drawing a comic they're great.

p much

A lot of classics started out as fanfiction. It's basically just an exercise where you're given the setting and characters, and you have to do the rest.
Fuck, in a manner of speaking all tv or screenplay writing is fanfiction, you have to take the info given by the franchise creator and try to do your best fanfic of it

And I did the transition into page 2
unclear in the sketch: the stranger is cupping her face

gettin some feelings

What kinda feelings

I'm not sure, but I want to keep reading and find out.

I guess I'll keep posting whatever pages I come up with.

Sorry about that delay. I fell asleep.

Here's a brief background of the world before the summary

>Takes place in a world where the three main factions
>One is a group that believes machine enhancements to replace broken and damaged limbs and organs is vital to humanities survival known as The Children of Autumn
>Other factions that's incredibly religious and believes that said machine enhancements are heresy. This faction makes up 80% of the world population
>Third faction is an offshoot of the Children of Autumn known as The Godless. These are people who took machine enhancements to the point of madness and have become abominations who tend to lose their sanity before completely replacing all flesh with metal.
>The Gods, to show their love for humanity, sends an angel to Earth once a year to protect them from evil. Each angel has a Ward who's raised at birth to follow the angel until their dying day.

In previous thread, user gave good feedback:
>Cool background but study up on folds, right now her clothes look like play doh.
Made an effort but still missing something. Ideas for improvement?

Is not that fanfiction is a bad practice, since you still practice your prose and plot-character management. Is more like fanfiction is so full of 12-year-olds writing shit that it gets a bad fame.

Nice job. How'd you get so good at cloth folds so quickly?

Good job adding the clothing folds. The only small complaint i'd have is with her being distinguished from the background via having the same thin lines as it (adding some weight to her left contour) but I'd have to see what you do with the rest of the picture coloring wise

Plot summary

>It's been a year since the last angel had came to earth and a new one is about to arrive, named Camila.
>The ceremony that welcomes her is attacked by a Group of Godless and they removes her wings but keeps her alive.
>A nearby group of soldiers finds the temple and the massacre and the entire group dies fighting a Godless, all except for a young soldier named Isaac
>Camila's Ward died in the attack and Isaac becomes the new ward
>Camila wants to find out why the Godless attacked because they're normally not organized.
>Turns out the Children of Autumn entrusted a young convert named Silas Harkin to be a liaison to the Godless and to use them as a weapon should war break out.
>Silas Harkin however has become enthralled by the Godless and their quest to create a being known as "The Advent of Machines" who will usher in an age of machine perfection. to create this being he took Camila's wings thinking he can use them to create his own divine being.

Yada yada yada, they need to stop him.

Page 3. I'll translate the whole thing properly once i finish the whole intro.

I like the art, man.

And thats as far as I sketched out. I guess I'll pick up the sketching later.
Having someone ask about it is giving me the energy to do it though

Added a single page, been slow since I draw a lot of things at the same time

OK well seems you at least got a "dynamic" right here, in that the villain has some bigger plans but made it personal for the hero by taking her wings, are the wings the source of her angelic powers or something like that? That way it makes things harder for the hero and also makes it even more of a personal offense.

Now I remember your concern on the last thread was about your villain being lame by being a guy who stands in the shadows pretty much. With this settled, I think that as long as we get some good POVs with the villains it should work fine. Give us the 2 perspectives in a puzzle-like manner and it should keep things interesting.

First part of Merchant & Pike is out.

Yeah, it's on a blog for another comic. Sue me.

>that pic
kek

Really nice, I love your art man

>are the wings the source of her angelic powers or something like that?
Yes. Also, the big thing that the villain holds over the heroes head is that if the wings themselves are destroyed than the angel who belongs to them is unable to maintain their form on Earth so he gets out of situations with that.

>the big thing that the villain holds over the heroes head is that if the wings themselves are destroyed than the angel who belongs to them is unable to maintain their form on Earth so he gets out of situations with that.
fucking madman!

The K.Kroell anaon from a thread or two ago
I just finished two pages of my comic, thank you guys for encouraging words
thing is I wonder where I can post it to get it a little more attention, I already use facebook and deviantart.
I wish I could make my own website, but that's a little over my head

>Dat chin

Page 2

>the angel who belongs to them is unable to maintain their form on Earth so he gets out of situations with that.
That's actual not bad. Especially if the villain isn't actually capable of fighting. Just be careful not to have him pull that out every time they face off.

Gonna be a confusing bookmark, but it's bookmarked.

Tumblr has a reblog system that let's your pages be shared more easily to reach more people, the platform itself is huge and it has a theme that is kinda easy to use (on our first post in the thread). You have to keep on check the dimension of your files though.

Tapas or Webtoons has the same layout for every comic ever but it also has an established community and you can get some revenue if you get popular enough too. You can also update on this site along with your other main as a mirror site of sorts.

Comic Fury and similars are free webcomic hosting sites and although some need you to have a bit of knowledge on code, they also have the plus of having some communities established already.

I updated West Tree's facebook.

facebook

com/WestTreeAcademy/

Great work.

Thanks man, I'll have to check them out

Here's the cover page of the comic by the way

How about you update your suicide by actually doing it instead of dragging it, your fans are waiting!

Thank you, I looked at some tutorials and doodled a lot. Still working on it!

I think most of those free hosting sites don't require you to know any code, that part is just optional. But if you don't use any, your site will just be the bare blank site with all of their auto-generated navigation links just in the default spot

Neat. I would appreciate a link to the best one of those tutorials and/or the one that focuses most on how you make your choice of where to put folds. I'm okay at drawing the folds and even shading the folds, but I can never decide where they are or what shape they should have in any logical way. At best right now I have a few common folds memorized

Ah yes that's kinda what I meant. I mean if you like how it looks it's fine but I personally would probably stay days and days manipulating the site so it looks better than the blank design site.

I'm starting my pages on tumblr and I find myself still wasting my days customizing it too anyway though.

I just tried to use a shortcut on my browser and managed to close and not save my canvas in the process

I'm not entirely sure how it happened but I lost a few sketches I liked and I'm rustled as fuck

I read a bunch of Go Nagai comics in the last few days and now all I can think about is ripoffs of his stuff. How do I filter out that and be original?

It happens. My big ol' beef fingers tend to cause random shit in every program I use. Gotta save, man. Let that rustling be what burns saving into your brain, and feel better that you just avoided a worse loss in the future as a result

Just rip off Go Nagai. I think we would all enjoy more of that.
That, or exercise your inspiration without resorting to ripoffing by putting work into making your own original thing that is derivative enough to make every fan eat it up

>not saving your file every 5 minutes or every major sketch/change you do no matter what

I learned it the hard way and seems you just did as well

Do it user, we all know we need more crazy sideburns in our life

I looked at a lot of these. Some not so helpful, others very much so. pinterest.com/mhillman320/how-to-draw-fabriccreaseswrinkles/?lp=true
For where to put them, I asked where the fabric was being pulled from, then drew the line away from that point, and asked if it would be overlapping or rolling. Not very sophisticated, I'm sure there are better ways.

>Not having auto-save on

Good advice, thank you

I take it you've never made a mistake that erased your whole drawing.. say, accidentally floodfilling over an entire clear layer and flattening it

Trust me, I have. But unless you have a shit ass early 2000's computer or are using outdated software, you shouldn't have these kind of problems

It's nowt to do with the computer (but yes, yes I do), it's just something you can do in an art program without realizing it. You don't wanna save until you're sure everything's fine

...

You sure have some really detailed sketches, I like them.

what google word tags should i use to find images/references of old pirate crew's jobs and chores like mopping, working ropes and other cabin boy shitty chores?
i'm having a difficult time finding the correct search terms for those. only getting modern navy stuff

My only guess is to add a specific century or year next to your search. Also I'm not sure about this since it has been years since I read it, but I think Stevenson's Treasure Island has some old crew jobs dropped in the novel, but again I'm not sure.

Tell me /hyw/, have you ever drawed or written porn of your characters? Or have you only been an idea guy on that regard? Or are your characters just too pure for any lewds?
