Michael Haneke Criticizes #MeToo: ‘Witch Hunts Should Be Left in the Middle Ages’

>Don’t expect Michael Haneke to tweet his support for #MeToo anytime soon. The two-time Palme d’Or winner criticized the movement in an interview with the Austrian Daily Kurier, saying, “I regard this hysteria of rash judgments that is spreading at the moment as absolutely disgusting.”

>“People are just being finished off in the media, [their] lives and careers are being ruined,” he said. Haneke clarified that “any kind of rape or [sexual] coercion should be punished,” but things are going too far based on “totally unperceived malignance, the blind rage that is not based on facts.”

>This fast-and-loose approach “destroys the lives of people, whose crime has not been proven in many cases,” he continued. “This new man-hating puritanism that comes in the wake of the #MeToo movement worries me,” and men “should hardly even touch this topic” at this point.

>“This has nothing to do with the fact that every sexual and every violent assault — both against women and men — should be condemned and punished,” Haneke once again specified. That said, “a witch hunt should be left in the Middle Ages.”

Has he become, dare I say it, /ourguy/?

>old white man is misogynist
how surprising..

Behead those who insult the purifying flame of metooism

He's right

When you get to that age, you start seeing the things as they actually are. Age removes a lot of bullshit people cover themselves in.

No, he has demons in the closet.

But Sup Forums told me Haneke is blind lefty scum wtf???

When has Sup Forums ever been right about anything?

One of us then?

Lads how can i organise to screen The Hunt (Jagten) to the entirety of twitter so this ridiculous shit stops at once?

They'll come for him next

I think Haneke has a lot of integrity. He's one of the more intellectual filmmakers, even by European standards. He's confident in his work but not arrogant or zealous. Those are a lot of good qualities that are really lacking in the arts nowadays, not only filmmaking.

But despite having said that, he's probably not a fun person to be around and his opinions have kinda isolated him. He's essentially Lars von Trier minus the literal autism.

BURN HIM BURN HIM!

>I think Haneke has a lot of integrity
He's dishonest as fuck

Don't compare european left with american.

Think any Amerimutt filmmaker will have balls to say what this poor old "eurocuck" Austrian man said?

Feminists/Leftists are shit people anyway. Nothing they do is for the good of humanity. See the rape epidemic of Europe for a sterling example, it's the Left and the femiturds who are trying to silence the victims, support the rapists, and try to force Europe's borders ever open, while promoting a massive welfare free for all and an emasculated society. So #metoo is just hypocrisy and deflection.

You don't understand this term. You can hate his movies but his films are honest.

Happy End was already being panned by critics and its poor reception was emblematic of his austere sensibilities being incompatible with the left wing wave of humanism that has dominated film in the past ~5 years.
This is just going to add more ammunition for his critics to complain about him being a nasty and out of touch old man who has nothing of value left to say.

I'll bite.
What makes him dishonest and how would you define the term? Does he not share the values he presents in his films? Does he use film in a manipulative way? I don't understand your point.

>Haneke not arrogant or zealous
I like his movies but come on, he's both in spades

GET YOUR HANKYS ITS MICHAEL HANEKE
YOU CAN BAN ME, IM THE HANEKE

t. reddit

>not arrogant
His films are extremely condescending

>I can't give a proper serious reply
>So I'll call them reddit instead

This.
Remember when your parents were your heroes? Then you grow up and discover they're humans like you and have flaws too.

>speaking the truth and criticizing mass hysteria and hypocrisy is misogynist

Let me guess, Trump is not your president?

This is why contemporary criticisms are only useful in retrospective studies of a certain era, they're so coloured by one or more of the idiotic biases of the time that true art, the best of which will be at least a decade before its time, gets ignored completely
I'm not saying his new movie is great, I haven't even seen it, I'm just saying the complaints of critics against a filmmaker like Haneke right now are about as worthless as it gets

>millions of women out there trying to become actresses
>you are just a drop in the ocean and you know that there are more talented and prettier actresses out there
>I know! I'll suck the right dicks and I will become famous!
>*fast forward a couple of awards and millions of dollars later*
>Wait a minute! I could have done this all by myself and my talent! I was RAPED!

Nah, the assumption that these women are fucking morons isn't unreasonable but the reality is most of them know exactly what they're doing
It's more like
>I can gain fame and attention and $$$ by becoming an actress
>I can become an actress quickly and easily by sucking dick
>a couple of awards and millions of dollars later
>I'm not earning as much as I once was, and I'm not having so much attention paid to me
>I WAS RAPED
Props to you for making the assumption that these women are just dumb dumbs but they're actually conniving whores

What a fucking stupid response

>tfw your parents were never your heroes.

Maybe this nomark should stick too what he's good at.

Making movies that dog fuckers like.

That's what I was implying with my post, user. They used the dick sucking as a tool and now they want to wash the sins of themselves by placing blame solely on the men. That way,in their mind, they have the success they deserve and an evil doer is punished (even though the evil doer is literally responsible for the success)

>The renown director of Amour, The White Ribbon, The Piano Teacher and last year’s Happy End allowed he would probably be referred to as “Haneke, the male chauvinist pig” after making the comments in the interview. He qualified his statements saying the current debate is disturbing because of “the blind rage that’s not based on facts and the prejudices that destroy the lives of people whose crime has not been proved in numerous cases. People are simply assassinated in the media, ruining lives and careers.”

>Asked if this escalation can help transform society for the better, Haneke responded, “Any shi*storm that even comes out on the forums of serious online news outlets after such ‘revelations’ poisons the social climate. And this makes every argument on this very important subject even more difficult. The malignancy that hits you on the internet often stifles you. This new puritanism imbued with a hatred of men that comes in the wake of the #MeToo movement worries me.”

>He noted that Nagisa Ôshima’s film In The Realm Of The Senses, which he calls “one of the deepest and most profound on the subject of sexuality,” could not be made today “because the funding institutions would not allow this, anticipating obedience to this terror. Suspected actors are cut out of movies and TV series in order not to lose (audiences). Where are we living? In the new Middle Ages?”

Caché > Amour > Piano Teacher > White Ribbon > Code Unknown > Funny Games > Time Of The Wolf
haven't seen Happy End

>t. parentlet

He's probably in on the whole pedophillia/sexual assualt shit in hollywood especially as he feels the need to act morally superior with his films.

#metoo didn't really create man-hating puritanism. It's just that specific branch of feminism making a selfish destructive powergrab. They finally even made someone kill themselves, and it was a woman.

Jesus christ, old man looks like he'd know a thing or two about the middle ages.

next time someone replies to you with the word dishonest you're most likely being baited
don't engage in an argument until they give you a post with actual substance

from those I've watched
