And they surpassed it
Episode 1 was kino
What happened to Jake Lloyd?
Bullied as a child to the point that he now has a fear of cameras, and is in and out of jail in his adult life.
...
>gets to play every kid's literal fucking dream role - childhood darth vader
>george's poor direction and his own inability to act ruins almost every scene he's in
>brutally taunted by practically everyone in his peer group and who watched the movie to the point where it drives him borderline insane
Poor fucking guy
All he needs to do now is go on a killing spree with a katana while wearing a Darth Vader costume and he'll have officially become his character.
The lightsaber fights were great for what they're worth.
Don't forget that Palpatine being the Emperor was supposed to be some big twist
Don't forget that Dooku being a sith was supposed to be some big twist
LUCAS IS A FUCKING HACK. FACTS.
thanks to the retards who now loves TFA and TLJ, really make you think
Redpill me on the Dooku part please.
Also this is the best Star Wars poster of all time.
These movies were intended for kids who didnt watch star wars
>but it had boring political scenes
they lasted like a minute. Mike is a fag
neither of these were supposed to be some big twist excepto for the characters in the story, retard
To be fair Jake Lloyd would have been a paranoid schizophrenic regardless of his involvement with Phantom Menace, but the mockery certainly exacerbated his issues
I knew a guy who went to college with him, and apparently he's insecure as fuck to the point that even mentioning Star Wars in his presence would make him sperg out
The movie is actually incredibly comfy and i watch it before i go to bed sometimes :3
YOUSA SURE ABOUT THAT?
How does this film look like such shit? The lighting is terrible and the sets all look like they've been scrubbed in alcohol they're so sterile. The OT aren't perfect or even great movies, but they feel alive and present. These look like a cartoon world you're just looking into instead of a real world you experience.
Can't believe he shot up that Afrokin chruch, I guess he really did go to the dark side.
In what way is Dooku a twist? He's literally never seen or mentioned before AotC.
born again hard
The best official poster, maybe
This is just the poster for Moonlight tho
The middle one looked like Obama to me at first from the thumbnail.
>To be fair Jake Lloyd would have been a paranoid schizophrenic regardless of his involvement with Phantom Menace
It's perfect. He should have played Anakin in RotS
Honestly? The CGI technology just wasn't there quite yet.
clever girl.
True, but even the practical stuff looks like garbage. In fact, a surprising amount of the movie is practical effects and real sets, but it STILL looks like a theme park. Maybe because it was shot on digital and not film? Though I never thought it could make THAT much difference.
so this... is the power... of prequel haters.... whoa
Maybe, everything did look a little too pristine in TPM. But you gotta admit some of the best designs in the whole saga came from the prequels.
"You were the chosen one! You were supposed to heal race relations, not destroy them!"
Phantom Menace was shot on film
>Sheev could've been hidden; there could've been misdirection that lead the audience to believe someone else was the Sith Lord (later Emperor) and in ROTS it could've been a huge twist when Anakin discovers he's the Sith Lord
>The Clone Wars could've been actual Clones of the Jedi that the Jedi had to fight; Obi Wan Vs Obi Wan, Anakin Vs. Anakin, etc;
>The Seperatists could've been beefed up and actually threatening, causing suspense in the audience as to whether or not the Jedi could survive a battle whenever they encountered them
>No Jar Jar
>Could've been shot on Film for the whole series
>Could've used more practical, realistic effects and not shitty PS2 game CGI
>George could've had his script proof read and edited by multiple top of the industry talented writers and made awesome with great characters, story, dialogue and depth
>No yes men surrounding George, instead people who would've challenged his dumber ideas and thus collaborate together to make an awesome series
Oh, so much potential.
TPM wasn't shot on digital. It was the last Star Wars movie shot on stock film.
no, its because the writing is absolute garbage.
...
>>Sheev could've been hidden
Literally impossible. He was played by Ian McDiarmid for fuck sakes.
Jesus, he looks like the contents of a GameStop distilled into a human being
>george lucas learned from his mistakes in ep 1 and improved the next 2
>disney keep doubling down and the movies get worse and worse
he's 5'5" I will crush that manlet
Sure, some of the designs were great. And Lucas never went without original ideas (which the newer movies lack). But there was never a point (that I can remember at least) where the prequels felt alive and real. Though I haven't watched them in ages so maybe that would change things.
Yeah, I've never really bought into film making a HUGE difference so I'm not terribly surprised.
I'm sure that's part of it but I'm talking on a purely aesthetic level the movie feels plastic.
Star Wars is mostly for kids, kids are dumb, they don't bother checking the credits of ROTJ. They would've been in for a twist.
im certain he was pizza-gated and his boipucci consumed
>I was 9 years old when Phantom Menace came out.
>I literally had fantasies of meeting Jake Lloyd and becoming best friends and playing Star Wars Legos with him.
>The Clone Wars could've been actual Clones of the Jedi that the Jedi had to fight; Obi Wan Vs Obi Wan, Anakin Vs. Anakin, etc;
You mean the lamest fighting game story plot of them all?
>The Seperatists could've been beefed up and actually threatening, causing suspense in the audience as to whether or not the Jedi could survive a battle whenever they encountered them
Yes, but also no. It's the same problem with trying to keep Sheev a secret - we know who makes it to the OT and who doesn't, so there's no tension regardless.
>No Jar Jar
Darth Jar Jar could have worked if Lucas could right funny dialogue worth a damn.
>Could've used more practical, realistic effects and not shitty PS2 game CGI
There were more sets and miniatures in TPM than in all of the OT. Somehow.
>eorge could've had his script proof read and edited by multiple top of the industry talented writers and made awesome with great characters, story, dialogue and depth
As we've already seen with the nu-films industry talent is a buzzword, but he could have benefited from having his story worked on by a secondary writer or script doctor.
No yes men surrounding George, instead people who would've challenged his dumber ideas and thus collaborate together to make an awesome series
You're parroting RLM memes. Apparently they did challenge Lucas on quite a few things, the end result just turned out poorly regardless.
You realize at least half of the people that went to to see the prequels already saw the OT dozens of times over?
Nigger I was like 5 and I could tell the guy who played the Emperor (I used to call him Mr. Creepy) was the same dude as Palpatine. Plus parents who DO pay attention would likely spoil it.
kek
We know who to cast for the Breaking Bad remake.
>You're parroting RLM memes
That's when I knew you were full of shit.
I don't even watch your garbage RLM show.
Dismissed.
Don't people consider AotC the worst of the three? Although it's got some really nice scenes and Christopher Lee playing a Sith Lord.
he tried spinning
>Nigger I was like 5 and I could tell the guy who played the Emperor (I used to call him Mr. Creepy) was the same dude as Palpatine
That's why I said use misdirection...
So make him sound distinctly different, change his appearance, don't show his face when he's playing the Sith Lord. Jesus Christ it's not hard to understand.
>I haven't watched them in ages so maybe that would change things.
you'd really benefit from a rewatch I think. I just did it last week and going into it kinda fresh definitely puts things into perspective, especially when you compared it to nu-Wars Disney schlock. There's a passion and sense of craftsmanship and vibrancy in the prequels that the new movies lack. Also the prequels are all chock full of both memes and prime Natalie Portman. They're honestly not bad movies, they just suffered from misplaced expectations more than anything else.
I feel the same way but can't come up with a good explanation as to why.
>those dubs
It's a fucking masterpiece you RLM pleb.
Then you're parroting those phrases without even knowing them because that review is so goddamn popular.
user there's only so much you can do with the same fucking actor playing the role. Honestly I'd go the total 180 route and make him the main protagonist of all 3 movies.
Maybe it's just nostalgia since we likely grew up with those movies. Although I can still admit they're heavily flawed, I enjoy them nonetheless.
I just got that the moonlight poster was supposed to be 3 different actors.
Sort of.
Basically, AotC showed the most promise out of all the movies, but fell short in needless, annoying ways.
That leaves a bad taste in people's mouths and makes them hate it more, even though it was a better movie than TPM.
Being close to perfection and failing is worse than being consistently mediocre.
>Honestly I'd go the total 180 route and make him the main protagonist of all 3 movies
...
That makes sense. It had more going for it than TPM did (diminished Jar Jar, older Anakin, Jango Fett) and still managed to miss the mark. Lucas' awkward and clunky dialogue is a big part in my opinion
the wrong kid died
>0.02 have been debited to your account
...
Hell, he's the most interesting character in those films by far. It is, and should be to a greater extent, his trilogy. He's scheming, killing, manipulating and having a hell of a time while doing it. Try to imagine the prequels - but with ten times more Sheev.
>darth vader is the most intimidating man in the galaxy and a sith lord responsible for the deaths of millions and strikes fear into the hearts of everyone in the galaxy
>at the end of rotj he's basically just a tired old grandpa
That always cracked me up about him. He has a double chin, for Chrissakes.
Disney WANTS everyone to hate the prequels, or at least they think everyone does. They wouldn't have emphasized "muh practical effects!" and "no George Lucas guiz!" for TFA if that wasn't the case.
Who said Disney is paying you, you stupid shill
>we shouldn't be allowed to hate something anymore because of my retarded conspiracy theory
Shut the fuck up.
Who the fuck am I a shill for then?
Phantom Menace did actually use plenty of practical effects though. Naboo was all real. So was Tatooine. The trade federation aliens are all costumes, as was Darth Maul, most of the jedi council, and other various aliens. Almost all the droids were real. Even a lot of the battle droids, vehicles, tanks were models during plenty of scenes. All the ship interiors were sets with little/no CGI. The CGI is used sparingly for the action scenes or backgrounds in Gungan city/Coruscant.
tl;dr Episode 1 has by far the most practical special effects.
Yeah, that's why he wears the mask you dumb shit.
>it's not like there are other movie corporations or anything, right guys?
Yeah. JarJar wasn't that big of a deal. It was the wooden acting, the overuse of CGI, the shitty script, juggling of main antagonists, etc...
No one has any right to hate the prequels in the first place.
thats what makes the ending on ROTJ so powerful. Imagine growing up in the early 80's where the only star wars you know is three films. No prequels to shit on your memory, nothing.
Literally never saw it in the poster until now. I'll fuckin never watch that movie.
To be fair the entire podrace was pure kino
I'm sure that nostalgia plays a role, and that they have some pretty deep flaws...but I also don't think they're as bad as their reputation suggests.
I actually think Attack of the Clones gets shit on unjustly desu senpai. It was the one that surprised me the most on rewatch since I haven't seen it in years...if you look at Anakin realistically -- a whiny teen who needs and wants a father figure but all he's really got are a disapproving and resentful celibate warrior monk wizard samurai and Sheev...so he's never actually learned how to behave around women -- and Padme as someone who'd be won over by Anakin simply because he's not a politician with sleazy ulterior motives...It's honestly not the worst thing in the world. It's not a great romance story but it's two very flawed people finding a love that will ultimately end in tragedy. Honestly it makes the whole thing less cringey and my headcanon is that it's kinda meant to be that way because there's no way Anakin would be some kind of charming, dashing knight in shining armor. It even has some really good moments. Attack of the Clones isn't a fantastic movie but I don't think it's as bad as the shit it gets would make you think.
>No prequels to shit on your memory, nothing
Eh, comics and games sorta repaired that honestly. I've now made peace with the whole 6 parts of the saga.
I think it would be cool to make those models for the movies.
We know that, but AOTC and ROTS didn't, and they suffered in a lot of ways for that reason.
>juggling of main antagonists
Because people shat on Jar Jar so hard Lucas had to change course so we got Dooku and Grievous. Granted, I love them both, especially Grievous, but you can tell there was a change in plans. I mean, imagine if in ANH Yoda was there the whole time, and he was just as fucking annoying and goofy as he was when Luke first met him. That's what Lucas was going for with Jar Jar.
...
probably related to Obongos white syde.
AotC and RotS both had lots of practical effects you twit.
I like to think Anakin was using his immense force powers to subtly mindrape Padme into falling for him. That's why he's waving his hands and she keeps going back and forth between saying no and cock-teasing him before she eventually gives in.
But yeah when you put it that way it kind of works. But the fucking dialogue, man.
Was the bowl cut intentional?
>probably related to Obongos jew syde
FTFY
Remember when your mom didn't give a shit so she just put a bowl on your head and cut everything underneath it?
This scene, for example, is a mix of CG and practical.
Fpbp
But look how fake it LOOKS. Nothing there appears to have weight or presence.
>Windows XP
user... they're fucking hovertanks
Will there ever be a good star wars movie made after 1983?
nigga what
