Disney has no idea what it's doing

They literally just need 1/10th the content spending on original content that Netflix does coupled with dumping their movies and shows from other divisions and that's it

>more options is a bad thing a bloo bloo bloooo

The issue isn't that there are more options, it's that Disney has no idea what it's doing.

Good. They suck the life from anything. They are partial owners of Hulu and they charge you for TV they show over the air for free. Then they charge you more for a commercial free version. Get the picture? We want them to fail.

Oh I don't have a problem with it, I think it's hilarious

if you fucking retards would stop buying disney shit maybe they would go fucking bankrupt

>Implying anyone on Sup Forums buys Western products

if disney will start owning the simpsons, maybe they can fire everybody and get the Gravity Falls people to make it. that show was pretty funny and I've always wanted canon incest between bart and lisa

>I've always wanted canon incest between bart and lisa

What a waste of perfectly good digits

So we went from cutting the cable and watching Netflix and maybe Hulu to every major company making a streaming service to put their content on where if you subscribe to them all it costs more than cable.

>They are partial owners of Hulu and they charge you for TV they show over the air for free. Then they charge you more for a commercial free version.
there is nothing wrong with this. don't like it? don't pay.

Basically. Thing is if we dont support Netflix and all its garbage then the industry will probably collapse and we go back to the cord which is trash.

>T. Advanced ticket holder for the Black Panther

>implying Sup Forums understands a simple concept

Wait a sec.... does this mean Nu-wars will have the Fox fanfare intro again??

Is there a market for this even? Like the allure of Netflix was that movies would eventually come on it like they did when you rented them. Now Disney thinks I want to watch Iron Man so badly on demand that I will buy its service?

Also offering their library internationally would beat Netflix instantly. Netflix is seriously just a ghost of what it is in the US here in Europe, even though this market is potentially much bigger.

The existance of streaming services show that there is a market for these services. HBO's shows us that original content only has its place, Bell Media's CraveTV shows us that even without original content these services has its place, and everything else shows us that differing levels of original and non-original content has its place.

The answer is how many services can the market sustain without eating into itself.

>Basically. Thing is if we dont support Netflix
stop paying for that garbage you fucking pleb.

Its looking bad. I knew when CBS jumped in the game it was going to be over then Criterion left Hulu and does its weird ass thing now. Peak saturation soon then deflation which leaves the overleveraged Netflix and the Mouse.

>Netflix is seriously just a ghost of what it is in the US here in Europe, even though this market is potentially much bigger.

I hope this means that the market share of streaming Netflix has is bigger, because if the same rate of Europeans watched Netflix as Americans do it would have twice as many European users as American ones, and at the moment there are as many international users as there are American ones.

Its a ghost because everyone has pulled their content to start their own streaming service.

>Dab and Dabid writing new Star Wars series

I torrent everything, what's your point?

Fun fact: CBS actually thought that STD and their local football game coverage would get them 8 million users by the end of 2017.

They didn't even reach 2 million users.

I will never support them after what they did to Star Trek. They knew there was a demand for it but ignored people only to use it for their shit service. I won't even torrent the show at the risk that I could like it and somehow buy some product that gives CBS money.

HAHA this is how I feel about torrenting the show also.

>So we went from cutting the cable and watching Netflix and maybe Hulu to every major company making a streaming service to put their content on where if you subscribe to them all it costs more than cable.

And we've known this was going to happen for years. It was inevitable. Now, if Disney was really smart they would loss-lead this service, at least for a very long time. Make it cheap enough to just break even on it to drive ticket and merchandise sales.

They didn't just use Star Trek as a whore to get us to use their sticking streaming service, they just made it Game of Thrones in space because they think that's what people want even though it's the least watched of any Trek series to date.

The Orville should have been the punchline to countless jokes for 2017, not the best thing to air on television. How do you screw up so bad that Seth McFuckface's Trek ripoff is something we want more of and Trek is the one we want to see die?

I hate that I love that show.

>“We’re not ruling out licensing third-party content provided the product fits within the Disney brand,” Iger said, reiterating that the streaming service would be Disney-branded and carry the Disney name. That means the majority of the content on the platform will be Disney original series — or content from a subsidiary company — and appropriate for all ages. Movies or TV shows that exist just outside of that rating (nothing will be R-rated, Iger said) can be filtered, if parents wish.

Hold on. The studio that now owns Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel, 20th Century Fox, FOX, ABC, ESPN, Studio Ghibli, Touchstone, Fox Searchlight, A&E, Freeform, et al, will only be hosting family movies and shows on it's streaming service? What a fucking waste. Not that most of that isn't aimed at the "Disney brand" to start, but this sounded like it had such possibilities for a real open streaming library. I have no doubt they'll ignore anything pre-1990 too unless it's a Disney Animation feature. Those old Fox films will rot even more now than they already are

Thats the plan. The inevitability is kind of sad. All we wanted was alacart cable and its turning into a cluster fuck. Disney just has to keep hording content and slowly building a service they dont even have to take a loss. Netflix gamble has been original content and now they are adding tons of foreign shows but they have taken on massive debt to stay in the game.

I think what we are headed towards is the death of movie theaters and people just releasing shit on their own service. That seems inevitable. Disney will just start dumping Marvel movies onto their service. Probably charge for a tiered service. For $20 a month you get Disney basic which is everything not in theaters. For $30 a month you get Disney + which gives you access to new releases. I can't imagine this won't be more profitable than using the outdated movie theater system.

Well yeah. They want to sell you DVDs , BluRays and rentals. You dont think they will give that shit away for a measly 8 bucks a month? They will just outlast Netflix as their strategy.

On the bright side this means Netflix will probably become the home for R-rated movies and shows, because we all know Disney isn't going to let that money go to waste.

Actually that may be their plan. Disney streams family content while Netflix gets the good stuff, meaning neither steps on the other's toes.

A classic duopoly.

I would like to see a Venn diagram of movies that are on multiple streaming sites. Everytime I try a new service they all have the same Bruce Willis straight to video crap.

>Tfw on principal don't watch anythign disney anymore

So long Famguy kino it's been fun but you are riding the mouse cock now.

Their streaming service is the only way they have to keep the ship afloat now that they have ruined Star Wars and ESPN is sinking like a stone

>paying to stream a show
>paying further to stream a show without ads

this is the whole $60 game but now with DLC cancer nonsense all over again

What happens when Disney does this? Does this mean they can continue making the Netflix Marvel shows on their channel for example but older seasons stay on Netflix?

What is funny is that Hulu,Netflix, Amazon Prime and SlingTV+HBO is still cheaper each month than the cable I was paying for.

>pulling out their movies from Netflix and selling them back to you is "more options"

Their parks and resorts division is the only think that's doing well, that and the streaming service was the only way to recover from the death spiral that TV, movies and merchandise have been in for the past decade. They could have been larger then ever, but they seem content on only being a parks and resorts company with everything else being token.

>this is the whole $60 game but now with DLC cancer nonsense all over again
what is it with you youngfags just loving to eat shit. why do you cucks put up with any of this nonsense?

People have been talking up the slow death of DVD for a decade now, it can't possible be worth more to sell 5 dozen discs of some old movies they own than to put them up to stream and cater to the audience for them. Or maybe it's that tiny bit more costly to waste that bandwidth. At the very least I thought there'd be a rotating selection like other services have

Netflix barely licenses movies now. I wish Amazon would step up and organize themselves better. They could be the old Netflix, a variety of licensed films and more selectively produced originals

all they need is quality original content

They've made it clear that they don't intent to make or allow R rated content on the service, and Netflix has announced they're still working with Marvel TV. Given how Marvel has shown no problems making deals with competing networks so far, Netflix will probably continue to make MCU content so long as it deems it profitable, and will possibly expand its catalogue if they think it'll make them money.

Remember that Marvel's mandate is for 2 theatrically released movies each year for Disney to release, beyond that they have complete autonomy (which is also why the financial black hole that is the comic division can continue to operate without Disney interfering)

Lack of fucking self control. Why anyone buys games like Far Cry and Assassins Creed on release is besides me. Why pay $60 +$40 for a season pass when you can wait a year and get it all on sale for $10. I love the Fallout series and never bought Fallout 4 because I waited for a deal and now I can get the game and all DLC for $40 but will still wait because that's too much.

That pricing strategy is pants on head retarded. Recurring payment subscriptions are ~10 or you're doomed.

Hulu without ads is currently less than any other streaming service, you faggots blow this out of proportion in every thread

Who cares when you can watch or download anything you want for free? who pays for any of that shit?

Disney makes more money off their television department than with the parks and studio combined. And that department is literally dying, analysts expect them to start losing money from ESPN before 2020

>Disney movies
>death spiral

Wew. Opinion discarded.

Do you really think any fucking smart business would roll out everything they have immediately? Fucking retard. You can be assured they have been analyzing this decision and how to move forward with some of the smartest people and some of the best computing power available.

What you WANT is for them to release it all at once. That would be fucking nice, I agree. But if you put yourself in Disney's shoes, trickling the content out to the consumer is easily the smartest choice. Every new "BIG" addition to their library will get press when it happens and more exposure and more subscribers. If they blow their load at once, you get one big load of press coverage and then that's it. They might not be able to make the news/social media ever again with their service. That isn't sustainable.

Plus they absolutely can justify price increases with increases in content and people who are already hooked in will gladly pay more, and people who aren't in will see what each addition to the service offers and potentially buy in.

Disney knows exactly what it's doing.

>He only uses one streaming service.
Enjoy 5 episodes of the Simpsons...

>I wish Amazon would step up and organize themselves better

They're changing. Most people don't realize it, but #MeToo had their streaming division's management purged and replaced, and now the new people are shacking things up. Anime Strike was killed because they have no interest in anime (which is also why we haven't seen much of anything announced in terms of new licences), not because it wasn't profitable.

Expect changes over the next year from them.

fuck modern gaming. Farcry 4 was the last game i'm ever going to pay for.

depends on how many pre 70s movies they put on there for me. I realize I'm not the model customer for them but them's the breaks

>#metoo

Huh?

i suspect theyve reached critical mass of diversity quota hires, and will now implode under weight of incompitance

>Disney makes more money off their television department than with the parks and studio combined

Revenue maybe, but actual profits are another matter. Their parks and resort division is by a very large margin their most profitable division, and until their streaming service goes live is the one with by far the most room for potential growth. It has grown significantly over the past 20 years, which is something you can't say for any other division as all are either stagnant or in decline.

They shrunk by over 12% in 2017 over 2016, continuing a downward trend that's been going on for over a decade now. They may have single movies that make more money then they used to, but they aren't making more money at the end of the year. In fact in 2017 Warner took their place as the largest studio.

Its getting hard to find older movies thats for sure. For instance I was feeling cheesy the other day and wanted to find the movie Hackers to stream. Its unavailable on any of the services I have which is a lot.

To add to this. Disney now has so many bombshell properties they can milk the coverage for years.

>Disney just released all the Alien movies on Disneyflix!
>Disney just put out the entire MCU on Disneyflix!
>Disney just put all seasons of The Simpsons on Disneyflix!
>Disney just took Aladdin out of the vault and put it on Disneyflix!
>Disney just put all the Ice Age movies on Disneyflix!
>Disney just put out the original unedited version of A New Hope on Disneyflix!
>Disney just put out the Avatar on Disneyflix!

It goes on forever and ever. The amount of properties they on is retarded. To add to that they can pull shit like this now:

>Disney is putting the Lion King back in the vault for 5 years.... better sign up and watch it while it's still available
>Disney pulled The Lion King back from the vault 3 years early!! Everyone go watch (((((your favourite movie)))))!!!!!

>Huh?
Members of their management got accused of sexual misconduct, and while their names aren't big enough for the news to pick up on Amazon panicked and fired them.

Had some execs get named. They were fired.

We don't support anything. We're all pirates

I got Fo4 used for 16 bucks. Waiting for cheaper DLC too because I got sick of the core game but you can totally get it if you really wanted to.

That wasn't my point, I'm just saying the bickering about Hulu Plus is retarded. If anything they offer a lower price point if you don't care about ads

Nigga ewww.

One problem with this is the fact they already have a means of perpetually rolling out big name content on their service: just putting the big movies and shows they release on other formats and that's it.

Everyone who's going to get the service is going to do so within the first year anyway. The name alone will get people expectations on what they want from the service, and not giving it to them will only hurt its reputation.

Everyone who wants to see something they have that isn't on the service will know it's because they don't want to launch it, not because they can't, and that will only loose them customers even if only temporally.

It's the kind of reasoning that makes just enough sense that someone in a suit who doesn't understand the current state of the market would come up with, but falls short of what the current state of the market actually wants.

I tried using Netflix while I was vacationing in Panama, it would turn on spanish subtitles for me and would refuse to turn them off. I guess Netflix doesn't give a shit about non-americans.

I don't know who is more reactionary, the pathetic shitbags that report on these accusations or the managers that haven't figured out that people will forget in less than a week.

might as well torrent at that point

this is why i still torrent. i'm not going to subscribe to every service available, plus any additional content channels on those services. pointless to subscribe to even one. just set up the rss parser in your torrent client, set it up to auto extract if necessary, then use plex or some shit to stream to your devices

But they are going into an already saturated market with a shit alternative to pre existing products. Netflix is adding millions of subscribers every month and HBO too. Also the movies represent a very small part of the allure of these streaming services, people get Netflix for the "binge watchable" tv shows, which Disney has zero experience doing. Pussyfooting into a market already dominated by a company with a superior product is retarded beyong measure and this streaming service will BOMB if they don't change tactics

???
Why would I wait for a download when I can find the movie in three clicks?

>I guess Netflix doesn't give a shit about non-americans

It's the exact opposite, that's the market they're desperate to get since it's the only one with real growth left in it. It's why so much of their original content is aimed at them now.

I think it's not that the managers haven't figured it out, I think they use it as an opportunity to clear house.

If they just dumped everything in one go people would start unsubbing after a month or two because they'd feel like they're not getting any new content. By withholding it and just adding in something once in awhile it gives the illusion you're getting more with your money. So no OP if anyone doesn't have an idea of what they're doing it's you for making such an asinine thread. Burned bitch.

Who the fuck wants to spend $10 x all the fuckers trying to run their own netflix service.

The whole value system was based on convenience. Now they're losing that convenience. Pirates win again cause im not fucking paying $100 a month to stream movies on demand.
