They are as cheap as they will ever be again. CRTs are actually going up in price universally now. You can get a decent 90s CRT for less than ten dollars at a flea market.

Tapes live a lot longer than the clickbait articles online will tell you. It all depends on how they were stored. I've had tapes from the late 70s work fine, while tapes from the 2000s will be too damaged to watch.
