This is the ONLY time Sam Jackson played a character that wasn't Sam Jackson in a costume.
Actors who play themselves

Hold on to your butts.
He was pretty subdued as Mace Windu I thought. Compared to a lot of other shit he's done I'd say it was a pretty good performance. He's no Daniel Day Lewis or Christian Bale or anything obviously
I think he did a pretty good job in Unbreakable too, but he definitely does play himself a lot.
I will admit Mace is definitely a more reserved and laid back role from Jackson. Good catch. That's 2 out of his 4,000
>Idris Elba as Detective Idris Elba
>Idris Elba as Idris "Madiba" Elba
>Idris Elba as Captain Idris Elba
>Idris Elba as General Butt Naked Elba
etc etc
...
Mr Glass ain't Sam Jackson.
Formula 51.
OP will rewatch to confirm. Been years.
Yeah.
Didn't say"muthafuckin' dinosaurs" even once.
...
>Idris Elba as General Butt Naked
KINO
objectively wrong by a movie in theaters rn
The first person that comes to mind when I someone mentions actors that only play themselves.
For the most part I agree, but he has some genuinely great roles like the one with his son. Pursuit of happiness? Or that one about giving away all his organs. 7 pounds/8 pounds or something.
How can someone be so wrong?
robert de niro.
Al pacino (besides scarface).
leo dicaprio.
denzel washington.
jack nicholson
mark wahlberg
morgan freeman.
always plays the same desperate actor who somehow time-traveled to an oscar bait period piece
Arnold in JP had some primary Samuel Jackson features though; he was cynical as fuck and could be an angry hothead, although it was mellow compared to a lot of his other characters (although that might be more due to limited screen time too).
Mr. Glass and Mace Windu are probably the least mainline Samuel Jackson roles.
His character in Long Kiss Goodnight, while cynical, wasn't a perpetually angry hothead, and his reluctant insecurities helped flesh him out (the scene when Geena Davis was coming onto him and he spilled spaghetti all over the place was great). Underrated movie all-around, but that's another subject.
>he hasn't seen blood diamond
Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and most importantly Johnny Depp
Still playing himself with a shitty accent
BANE?
Long kiss goodnight. Will check out.
Marlon Brando, Humphrey Bogart
He played a Joe-Friday-esque-goodie-two-shoes-straight-edge cop in National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1.
agreed.. but he has charisma, almost a black counterpart to tom cruise
Schwarzenegger
>denzel
training day, malcolm x
He was a house nigga in Django. Definitely not standard fare. Can't even legitimately think of that kind of character anywhere else.
>Johnny Depp
Sorry bud but he has done a few roles that are different. I mean compare the ninth gate to pirates of the caribbean. Dead man to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. You can hate him all you want but he doesn't play the same role in every damn movie he has made like the others posted here.
He's still just playing himself. Just because he was a bad guy in training day doesn't mean he wasn't acting as himself. He still even does his shitty monologue he always does.
Now for actors that definitely don't play themselves every movie.
Was gonna say this.
Zodiac would have been better if it didn't have RDJ playing himself in the middle of it.
>The dog, Alice...
It still just feels like Johnny Depp in different coats of paint though.
Nick cage plays a role of someone who wants to be like nick cage
>how would Con Air act like Nick Cage? Here. We. Go.
YOU LETTING THIS MUTHAFUCKA IN THA HOUSE? THIS NIGGA HERE?
Yeah Jackson really had to put in work in that one.
>deniro
stop this madness
That's only because he plays too many kooky roles like jack sparrow now. but he still doesn't meet the criteria for playing himself in every movie.
Yeah
>The same character
Fucking pursuit of happiness. I've never met anyone in my life who actually watched that movie. I bet even the Smithfags who namedrop it as his" best movie" watched it once in the theater and never even wanted to see it again.
Will Smith has the worst filmography of any so-called movie star in the history of cinema.
This. I love Will Smith but he is literally the prime example of an actor who basically just plays themselves every fucking movie.
Men in black is a legit 90s classic
He does though. You're thinking of typecasting. We're talking about actors that act too similar in every role so it's hard to suspend your disbelief.
Pretty much yes. Different outfits/occupation and one has a lisp but yes.
Unbreakable.
The scene of them sleeping in a subway bathroom and Will pretending with the son they're in a time machine is genuinely fantastic. When someone is trying to open the door and he's clutching it so his son can sleep it is heartbreaking.
This is high quality bait. I'm actually upset.
That's fine though, since all of his characters are written to be him.
Wtf I love Xenu now
>Robert De Niro
Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, the Deer Hunter
>Al Pacino
Scarface, Scent of a Woman
>Denzel Washington
Malcolm X, Fences
>Jack Nicholson
The Shining
George Clooney is the absolute worst for this, the only things I’ve ever liked him in are O’ Brother and Fantastic Mr. Fox
He is just a different version of himself in every role.
Fly, fly, fly
Ever since appearing on Pirates of the Caribbean, he plays basically the same person in different costumes, his days of being in Blow are goon.
>forgetting Stacks
Came to say Denzel. He's a one trick pony, though the trick he does is great.
>Malcolm X, Fences
Both are the same character. The same smooth talker with fire behind his calm demeanor, knowing he holds all the cards. The same role he always plays.
>Put on a wig
>Am I acting yet?
Samuel L typecast himself and early.
Because that's what actors are. Is he supposed to get plastic surgery and be reborn again to different parents and upbringing?
What? You fucking retard.
Depp/Actors are themselves in movies with different coats of paint fucktard.
DeNiro is literally the opposite of someone who plays himself. He has absolute no personality of his own; he's an empty shell for whatever character he's playing.
Casuals will say Nicholson, but patricians know he plays a completely different type of crazy in every role
in TLJ, he was basically himself..
Nobody cared who he was until they opened the ark
He's a fantastic voice actor though
My sides
Wouldn't that be acting?
You know, I'm somewhat of a kinosseur myself
Yes, and he's one of the greatest actors of his generation. Great actors with interesting off-screen personalities are rare.
